Phillips Lumea has changed my life!

Just that, really.

Been using it since Xmas, every 10-14 days. Haven't removed hair from legs, pits, bikini line or arms in 10 days now and there's practically no regrowth. This isn't a sales pitch btw, I just wish I hadn't spent the last 10 years wanting one but thinking they were too much money!

My DD and I are really pleased with it.

ZiggyB · 25/08/2019 10:28

Hi there just wondering if those who bought one recently are happy with the results?

georgialondon · 26/08/2019 20:28

@ZiggyB I really rate it. It's given me better results than salon treatments did. Its totally worth the money.

ZiggyB · 26/08/2019 23:13

Thanks Georgia

I have just bought the one above. I have been dithering for years. My dh convinced me to go for it (must be fed up of hearing me going on about it). I’ll report back. I’m abit tanned now though as have just come back from holiday but will give it a go anyway.

LeithWalk · 29/08/2019 14:15

Trying to decide, good to hear of positive stories. Hate being convinced then ending up with cupboards full of unused gadgets. ( usually hair care...not removal!)

Does this ever reduce hair permanently as in thinning it out so it doesn't return or will it only stay away with constant use over time?
I'm worried that I will buy it, be grey in a year and then won't be able to use it due to hair colouring.

Has anyone a male partner who uses this. Would love to thin my DP's back!

febel · 29/08/2019 18:55

Can I ask how hairy were the people who have used it successfully?! I shave normally...….can't be doing with pain of waxing or waiting for regrowth.

MazDazzle · 23/09/2019 19:19

I bought a Philips Lumea Prestige SC2009 a few years ago and it’s never been out of the box! Tonight is the night. Grin

ThingsImighthavedone · 23/09/2019 19:22

Me too MazZazzle. I just don't understand what you're supposed to do with them...

MazDazzle · 23/09/2019 22:36

Give it a go ThingsImighthavedone!

It’s much easier and quicker than I expected.

Charge it.
Shave or wax.
Download the app.
Set it to the recommended level for your skin.
Hold it against your skin until it lights up to indicate it’s in full contact.
Press the trigger.
It’ll give out a bright flash.
Move on and continue.

I used level 4 and didn’t feel a thing! Don’t know why I was so scared. Zapped my lower legs, underarms, most of my bikini area and my upper lip. Here’s hoping it works! The app will remind me in a fortnight to do it again.

ThingsImighthavedone · 23/09/2019 23:52

Thanks that’s really helpful. If you’ve shaved or waxed though, how does it kill the hairs when there are none?I don’t understand.

userxx · 24/09/2019 14:47

I really need to get mine out of the box and give it a go.

@ThingsImighthavedone I think it blasts the hair underneath the skin?

LaVieilleHarpie · 24/09/2019 19:48

Ok, I've been using mine for a few months now. 3 I think?

I've seen a huge reduction in hair growth and regrowth takes longer to appear, BUT, I'm not smooth yet. There are still a few hairs growing on my underarms, and legs go slightly stubbly (fine blond hairs these days, nothing like what it used to be).

Should I keep going, or is this as good as it's going to get? I was hoping for total hairlessness :(

MazDazzle · 24/09/2019 20:31

It zaps the hair follicle under the skin ThingsImighthavedone, which eventually leads the hair to be in ‘sleep’ mode, rather than ‘grow’ mode.

If you stop LaVieilleHarpie, then hair growth will return to normal.

ThingsImighthavedone · 24/09/2019 23:16

Right, I’m getting mine out of the box..

SpangledBoots · 24/09/2019 23:19

Boots are doing 20 points per £1 this weekend...that's £65 in points for buying the Prestige Lumea!!! I think I'll have to bite the bullet.

SpangledBoots · 29/09/2019 08:34

I took the plunge (and got £65 in Boots points!) on Friday. First treatment yesterday on legs and chin plus a few other small areas. Going to do underarms and bikini line today. I thought they'd be more painful so held off! I have big legs so they took quite a while but it was easy once I got used to it.

So impatient to do the next treatment already!

Mummyonline · 09/10/2019 08:06

I have mine still sitting in the box as unsure whether it will do my fair hair on skin. Not a great photo but yay or nay?

LeveeOHsaNotLeveoSAH · 09/10/2019 08:16

This sounds really tempting. Does it work on very fine hair?

LizSoph · 27/10/2019 10:50

Hi has anyone used a Philips Lumea on their daughters legs? I have one and it has made a big difference to my hair growth on my legs (I have very dark hairy legs!) My youngest daughter is very similar to me and is starting to be anxious about her legs, she's 10. I know the advice is to not use it on under 16's but I'm not sure why? Any advice would be grateful.

TheFlis12345 · 27/10/2019 11:03

Lumea doesn’t tend to work very well on fine, pale hair. It needs a pigmentation difference between the hair and the skin around it.

TheFlis12345 · 27/10/2019 11:06

@LizSoph technically no reason why it shouldn’t be used on your daughter. The reason they say it is not for use by under 16’s is that to endorse it for kids, it would need a different level of clinical testing which they have not done. It’s the same for pregnant women, no actual reason not to but they are covering themselves legally by not actually endorsing it.

Inabarunderthesea · 27/10/2019 11:47

Anyone know if it's safe to use on the chin if you have fillings in your back teeth? It says 'not over or near fillings' so I'm concerned that meets the status of 'near'. Didn't realise that before I bought it!

Gwenhwyfar · 27/10/2019 12:35

" reckon I do everything in 45 minutes."

Isn't 45 minutes every 2 weeks quite a long time to be spending on hair removal when shaving only takes a couple of minutes? Even if you have to shave every other day.

thisenglishlife · 27/10/2019 13:00

I was very hairy (I'm part Italian, part Jewish, part German and I have PCOS) and it's been great on my legs.

You have to shave (you can't wax before the treatment, but you can in between treatments) and you should use it every 2 weeks for 8 treatments. I haven't really had any hair growth - just a few strays that I missed. My legs are super smooth now (they never were before it) and my very bad keratosis has almost disappeared - so my skin is much better too.

If you have dark hair and light skin and no/not many freckles, I would go for it. You can't use it if you have a pacemaker. You also need to charge it every 3-4 months, even if not in use.

I've switched to using it on my face now, it's helped reduce the speed of the growth by a huge amount and there's much less hair.
