Phillips Lumea has changed my life!

Just that, really.

Been using it since Xmas, every 10-14 days. Haven't removed hair from legs, pits, bikini line or arms in 10 days now and there's practically no regrowth. This isn't a sales pitch btw, I just wish I hadn't spent the last 10 years wanting one but thinking they were too much money!

Mine arrived Thursday and I used it that evening. I have to say that it stung quite a bit on my lower legs (I had shaved them first) and there was a smell of singed hair. I obv hadn't shaved properly!
My skin is lightish brown and it 'auto scanned' me and set the power thing at 4. I can't work out how to turn it down to 2.

Abcd3 · 22/06/2019 19:29

Does anyone know whether it matters if the stubble on your legs is a few millimetres? Would the Lumea work just as well?

DropZoneOne · 23/06/2019 11:42

@batshittery what version do you have? On mine, there are two arrows so you press left or right to change the setting once the number is lit

@abcd3 it will singe any hair and stings! So you need to remove hair beforehand, the light travels down the shaft and any hair in the growth phase is put to sleep

I'm on the 4th zapping phase today. Lower legs are almost bare apart from my knees and a couple of patches that I've obviously missed! Underarms are almost bare, and the hair that grows is softer. Top lip and chin are almost hair free too - i was getting a lot of stubble under my chin so to reduce this to only a couple of hairs after six weeks is brilliant. Bikini needs a lot more work but i can only tolerate a 2 setting there where I'm 4 or 5 everywhere else.

Does anyone know why it can't be used on children? DD is 11 and just started removing underarm hair (at her request) and this would be so much better. I've googled but there's no explanation.

AltogetherAndrews · 23/06/2019 11:57

Would anyone know why it isn’t working particularly well for me? I have pale skin and dark hair, using it regularly on a high setting, and although I probably have less hair, I still need to shave very regularly, and no area is hair free. My face in particular is still needing hair removal on a daily basis, and what’s worse I now have really bad skin in the areas where there is hair.

I have had it for a year now and it’s really disheartening that I still have a bloody beard.

Hi all,
I've been watching this thread for a while and finally in a position to possibly buy one...
has anyone bought the following
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PHILIPS-LUMEA-ESSENTIAL-IPL-HAIR-REMOVAL-DEVICE-RRP-220-NEW-AND-SEALED-BOXED/293101314491?hash=item443e3321bb%3Ag%3ACs0AAOSwG59c5-Xi&LH_BIN=1
Any reviews?
I don't understand what the difference between this one and the more expensive one is ....
Thanks in advance

Jins · 23/06/2019 15:35

@Amani I have the essential and I’ve written about my experience a few posts up on this page

Amani · 23/06/2019 22:36

Thanks @Jins
Think I missed it for some reason Blushthere are a few models to pick I know to get a corded one one but still trying to decide between advanced and prestige...

TheFlis12345 · 23/06/2019 22:55

A friend asked a demonstrator about using it on teens. Apparently it should be fine but they have to say it’s for adults only as that is the only official testing that has been certified, same with pregnant women. No actual reason it wouldn’t be safe for them but as they haven’t gone through the formal testing process, they can’t actually say it is.

snozzlemaid · 24/06/2019 08:24

AltogetherAndrews I'm the same as you, I can't say it's working for me.
I have very pale skin and medium brown hair and I've been using mine every two weeks since November.
The only area I have seen a slight improvement is my moustache area, but it's not working on my chin, legs or underarms. Legs are a bit patchy, but there's still more hair than bare patches.
I'm sticking with it for the time being as I've spent all that money on it I don't want to give up yet.

Tacobella · 24/06/2019 09:44

Have finally bought one because of this thread after about a year of dithering!

Has anyone used it on their throat area? The instructions say jawline but no mention of throat and the guidance for men is not to be used on beard/neck area.
Does this mean it can’t be used on the throat? Maybe because it would hurt?

And have also seen it says about not using if recently used AHA type acids. I use one ever 2 weeks usually so how long would I need to leave before safe do you think?

myidentitymycrisis · 24/06/2019 10:02

Does anyone know if I can use it on the face after plucking?

I have lots of blonde hair on my upper lip and just a couple of black ones which I pluck , and I’m reluctant to shave in order to use my Lumea there.

Pleasance · 24/06/2019 10:15

I'm looking for advice too.

Two questions

Does it matter whether it is the 'advanced' or 'prestige' model?

Will this work on men? Thinking his back!

TIA

Branster · 24/06/2019 15:13

Apologies in advance for the following epic, it’s for those still sitting on the fence about this. Yes it is an expensive product so it has to be a considered purchase for most of us. If you plan to save for it to buy it in a years’ time you need to save around £30/month. I bought a Boots own version of IPL machine a very long time ago (maybe 10 years or a bit longer - they stopped selling it since because the other brands are so much better like Phillips and they can bring out newer models much faster). At the time it was about £380 so quite an investment into uncharted territory although I did do as much research as I could beforehand. Also in those days you had to apply a gel for the light to pass through, the window was small and it was corded. To start with nothing happened until I realised I was using the wrong setting for me which was too weak. After that my hair was completely gone below knees, underarms, bikini line. I was not consisted in using the machine for about a year but once I decided to use it once a week, every week, my hair was completely gone after 6 months. In between treatments regrowth was very fine. After two months I only treated area, by area as quite a bit of skin was hair free so I didn’t want to treat clear skin. Also the lamp on my machine will eventually run out unlike new models so I didn’t use it unnecessarily. Any odd re-growth nowadays is very fine so I shave it and re-treat but I hardly ever need to do that.
If I was to start from the beginning today, I’d definitely buy a Phillips (10 years ago it was much more than the Boots own), I’d choose the latest model under £400- that’s a very good budget as they are regularly on sale on Boots website or Philips website (sign up to Phillips newsletter they have 25% off around Christmas or Black Friday or Mother’s Day?) and Amazon is a good place to buy from. My understanding is that the higher the model number, the newer the version. Really it doesn’t have to be the very latest model, one or two models ago is more than perfect. All you need to choose is if you want corded or cordless (Personal preference based on how good you are at re-charging or if you’ll be using it in a bathroom with no power supply). This will be the best money you’ll ever spend on your beauty care. With the recent models which don’t require gel application and fire the light at fast speed you really cannot complain (my old IPL machine needs time to cool down, it has a delay between shots and needs the gel to work. All very time consuming and fiddly). I wouldn’t choose another brand because Phillips have been doing a consistently good job for a long time even if they might be pricier.
So if you have light skin and dark hair, this would be the best investment. ( I don’t know about other combinations). I cannot explain how good it feels like to have smooth, not irritated skin all the time on lower legs and underarms after years of constant waxing or shaving.
Always be cautious and do not use on any kind of mole or skin problem (I used to cover mine with bits of white sticky paper labels), do not expose skin to sunlight during the treatment phase (best to do it during cold weather) and I wouldn’t advise using this on anyone under 18 because the reality is we don’t know how this affects a growing body, especially under arms where there are lymph nodes. Better to be safe than sorry especially where youngsters are involved.

Branster · 24/06/2019 15:23

PS I remembered the 25% off from Phillips website newsletter is sent on your birthday.

Batshittery · 24/06/2019 17:30

DropZone I have the Prestige B1954. It does have 2 arrows but they don't seem to work. I'll try again. Thanks

DropZoneOne · 24/06/2019 20:54

@Batshittery that's the same as mine. I plug it in, and the 1 flashes. I use the right arrow to move it to 5 then press the tick. If it doesn't work, I'd contact Philios in case it's faulty

Batshittery · 24/06/2019 20:57

DropZone I don't think mine would change when I tried that, but I'll check it tomorrow. Thanks for your advice

Saralyn · 25/06/2019 21:41

I am so pleased this thread convinced me to buy one! Have done three treatments two weeks apart, and huge difference on legs, armpits and bikini line.

Excited to see how it is after a couple more treatments.

Abcd3 · 26/06/2019 18:17

Wow, glad to hear it’s made so much difference! I’ve just bought one - hope it works for me too!

Branster · 30/06/2019 22:44

For those still unsure, here is a podcast about Lumea on the Emma Guns Show
emmagunavardhana.com/bonus-episodes/hair-removal-philips-lumea?rq=Lumea
I think this particular episode might have been sponsored by Phillips but it is informative.
I used a Boots own at home IPL machine a few years ago it has been brilliant and at the time cost over £300. If my old gadget (which requires the use of a gel, it is slow, corded, requires protection for eyes and gets hot) is so good, I can wholeheartedly recommend the latest generation of Lumea based on ease of use and reported results.
As with everything, choose as later a model as you can afford based on your own budget. It is an investment for most of us so if you haven’t got the money today, , try and plan a little savings plan because if you can buy it in one or two years’ time without stretching your budget, you’ll still get the same great result and the product will still be available to buy.
Just make sure it is suitable for your own hair colour and skin ton combination.

DerelictWreck · 21/07/2019 20:01

For anyone still following this - if you dodn't achieve hair free within the 8 weeks (I think?) that it promises, did you still see improvement after?

I've been using it every two weeks since the beginning of Feb, so 24 weeks now. My hair is SO much better, softer and down to patches on legs (where I've missed bits) and stray hairs on bikini line. But my underarms still have full coverage though it's softer and slower to regrow.

Am holding out hopes that this will still get better? Any similar experiences?

TheGoodEnoughWife · 29/07/2019 12:59

Finally got mine!
Have been busy zapping.
Couple questions please...

Using it on 5 and it doesn't hurt - should it?

If I turn the Lumea over it makes a tiny rattle noise - is that okay or is mine broken?
Bought from Amazon and wondering if I should have bought from Phillips themselves :-/

Bearbehind · 09/08/2019 22:17

Just found this thread and I’m seriously twitching.

Can you use it if you’ve just waxed?

Also, which is the best one for the quickest leg treatment - I'm tall and definitely not skinny so there’s a lot of ground to cover!

userxx · 09/08/2019 22:24

I think I need this in my life.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/08/2019 12:15

I just saw this is on special offer on Amazon, might be of use to someone. Was on the app so could only take a screen shot sorry
