I still need to watch past the first episode of the Crown - every intention of doing so, just never get round to TV (sadly not because I am doing anything more inspiring)

A gorgeous (IMO) cover pic of Rania here...

I think it will be ok. I think a bit of it is hair/costume and then the actor themselves inhabit the role so much it sort of transforms the face. I wouldn't have said CF looked like the Queen beforehand but she became her.

--Less convinced by Phillip but I miss looking at Matt Smith

Found this Radio Times piece comparing the actors with their counterparts

It sure about the casting of Helena Bonham Carter as Margaret, either. HBC only plays two characters 1) herself 2) fake cockney.

Rhubarbisevil · 03/03/2019 08:59

I’m not sure about her casting, I mean.

BlingLoving · 03/03/2019 09:09

Rhubarb, i worried about that too with HBC. But she was excellent as the queen mum so hopefully she can pull it together.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/03/2019 09:17

Helen Mirren doesn't look particularly like the queen either but was uncanny in the role. Let's see what Olivia can do with her acting chops. I'm a bit unsure about HBC's casting too, especially as she's older than OC. The young actor they've cast as Charles looks perfect though!

Ah, but I didn’t like her as the Queen Mum. I thought her acting was lazy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/03/2019 09:46

Who's playing the QM in the next series? I saw Victoria Hamilton at a local park last year. She has very short bleached blonde hair - perhaps her way of exorcising Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon!!

That's a stunning photo of Rania @desertgirl but she's had so much work done!

Indeed, Queen, and I doubt she subscribes to the ‘don’t photoshop my pictures’ campaign (can’t remember its real name) either!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 03/03/2019 10:49

I said many threads ago that OC should play Margaret as she looks more like an older Vanessa Kirby but who would we have play the Queen?

desertgirl · 03/03/2019 11:13

More pics of Rania along with a non earth shattering article here

ajandjjmum · 03/03/2019 11:26

I'm part way through the second series of The Crown - loving it. I think that 'Philip' looks uncannily like Harry in profile on some shots.

Crossed my mind last night that in an episode in 1958, Philip and the Queen were discussing more children, and yet it must have been another three/four years before Andrew was born.

Overall, although Philip comes across badly at times, he had a terribly difficult role in the early day - for a traditional man's man!

Yes Claire was very 'still'.

Too still sometimes, I think. Supposedly the Queen can be quite animated and funny in private, and I think Olivia would be very good at portraying that aspect, assuming they decide to go in that direction.

Notmyrealname855 · 03/03/2019 12:07

Why isn’t OC wearing contact lenses? The Crown prides itself on getting all costumes etc so close to the real thing, yet OC isn’t looking very Queeny here at all. The costumes department surely considered this? Anyway OC is a fantastic actress and I’ll be keen to see her in a role that isn’t quirky /nervous/ fumbling / polite. Think she can nail it and interested to see what it’s like!

queenofarles · 03/03/2019 12:17

I love Olivia, but seeing she is now famous for portraying Queen Anne in a comedy . Think people will find it difficult taking her portrayal of Queen E serious? Just like John Lithgow, he is a brilliant actor but to me he will always be Dr Dick Solomon from third Rock from the sun and anything he says always sounds amusing KWIM? .

BartonHollow · 03/03/2019 12:20

John Lithgow is fucking terrifying in Dexter

I think she can do it

She's done a lot of comedy - yes but also a lit of drama and won in both

I think Olivia looks more like the Queen than Claire Foy did.

Just catching up and loving Leti's gown. The leather outfit doesn't do it for me though.

Haworthia · 03/03/2019 12:40

Maybe OC can’t wear contacts? Daniel Radcliffe copped a lot of flak for not wearing green contacts in the Harry Potter films, but as a ten year old kid he couldn’t tolerate them. Eye colour is a minor detail IMO.

I don’t think people will struggle with OC in a non-comedy role either. She’s done plenty of serious work. Everyone talks about how amazing she was in Tyrannosaur.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/03/2019 12:44

And her role in The Favourite wasn't entirely comic, there were some moments of real heartbreak.

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 03/03/2019 12:50

She’s done plenty of serious work.

The first thing I saw her in was Broadchurch, so I have always associated her with serious roles.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/03/2019 12:59

@joyfullittlehippo was it a play at the National Theatre? Because if so then I saw it too! I can't remember it's name but he was hilarious.
