Marina Hyde is great. And spot on about the Diana / Megan comments industry.

IdaBWells · 01/03/2019 07:55

Hopefully they didn’t Anna maybe there are other people who worked for her that we are not aware of because they didn’t sell her out? On the other hand I have seen stories in some documentaries of loyal servants/employees being swept aside with very little thanks or support after many years of loyal toil on what is said to be very low wages.

The man that ran the Queen mother’s household for apparently decades was treated very badly after her death, turned out of his home and died in very modest circumstances. She was absolutely loaded with at least three large houses (Clarence House, one each at Sandringham and Balmoral) and loved to splash the cash constantly.

Spudlet · 01/03/2019 08:07

That's where they really need the next generation to step up, imo, and realise that you need to treat the people working for you with respect and be a good employer. Hopefully they will get it - they've all had jobs for a start, of one kind and another and while I doubt that W and H were treated exactly the same as anyone else, that will hopefully at least give them some insight. And of course Megan worked very hard, and although Kate was never a career woman she did have a job. Are they the first senior Royals to have done that, I wonder?

I know that there have been stories about Megan being a bit American in her working ways, but if that culture clash can be smoothed over (goodness knows she won't be the first to take a bit of time to adjust to a different culture's working ways!) she could really make some positive changes. You can't expect total loyalty for peanuts and then throw people aside as soon as they stop being useful in this day and age - there are far too many opportunities for people to cash in if they are left feeling disgruntled.

motheroftinydragons · 01/03/2019 08:12

I've never read Marina Hyde before but I like her!

I hope William and Harry don't give that leach PB too much headspace these days. They must really hate him. What a vile creature he is. Talk about make a horrible situation worse for two young boys already devastated by the death of their mother.

Were NDAs not a thing in the 80/90s? Or do they die when the employer does? Or that a dead person can't sue? You don't see any recent employees selling stories and I assumed that's because they sign one.

The QM was a bit of a spendthrift. She ran up something like a £4million overdraft at courts which the queen paid after she died.
Her page, Billy Tallin was given a grace and favour apartment.
He wasn’t shunned by the RF

There’s only about 6 people I can think of who have sold Diana stories.
James Hewitt, Paul Burrel, the bodyguard guy, private secretary, some psychic and I think her voice coach.

When you think she had quite a few relationships, female friends and other staff. A lot has been kept back. Her sisters shredded a lot of her letters after her death.
A lot was released with the squidgygate tapes. Charles was equally damaged by the tampax tapes.
Glad the 90s are over.

ajandjjmum · 01/03/2019 09:15

I hope that W & H have sent a letter asking Paul Burrell to return the belongings of their mother, that he was so kindly protecting. Hmm
And that he has returned them.

Thedarklady · 01/03/2019 09:26

I liked Rania's pink outfit and the Queen in white. Letizia looked lovely in the light blue.

IdaBWells · 01/03/2019 09:34

Ok I totally accept I may have not got the full story on Billy my apologies, but it is a fact that wages are low for those serving the Royal Household. That doesn’t justify what I consider immoral behaviour by betraying someone’s privacy. Underpaying people is also immoral however. I guess my point is, people may be behaving badly on both sides and we will never hear the full story. Keeping a mother’s belongings from her sons and then claiming to be one of her closest confidants whilst looking dewy eyed into the camera as you get paid for yet another article/interview is the pits however.

The Queen Mum was indulged by her daughter and allowed to spend as she wished. She was allowed to run up millions because Coutts would’ve been assured that they would be paid. She had financial access to everything her heart desired, which is not the case for the vast majority people in the U.K..She basically kept up her lifestyle as Queen.

Diana was living with three other girls while dating Charles and we have never heard a squeak from them as far as I am aware.

LuciaSpain · 01/03/2019 09:48

Oh I love Rania's dress, beautiful. I loved Anne's courtesy, she has such a get on with it attitude!!

I saw the courtesy she gave King Felipe, he kissed her hand then as she was in the midst of it, how she didn't fall on the floor in a complete fluster I'll never know.

I am reading Ma'am Darling at the moment, one of Margaret's closet staff was given 30 days notice once she died to get out of his grace and favour apartment, no help from the royals. They wonder then why stories are sold, sometimes it's for sheer lack of money, that man ended up in bad financial ways after his eviction.

IdaBWells · 01/03/2019 09:49

Letizia is just a sartorial star as far as I am concerned. She has appeared in amazing outfits for years while impeccably groomed, I am always interested to see what she is wearing as she always keeps you guessing and is not a boring dresser despite the understandable restraints on her position.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/03/2019 10:41

CPM looking very Kate in D&G (she isn't wearing red tights, that's just the lighting) and Mathilde has gone all Max on us and worn a jumpsuit! I think Sophie is the only British royal to try a jumpsuit so far. Maybe Meghan will be next, it might be a bit too much for Kate.

How tall is Queen Mathilde in RL.?

Does CPM get a pass for wearing Dolce et Gabanna? Hmm

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/03/2019 11:15

No she doesn't, she really should know better.

A little quiz on Kate’s NI wardrobe
The blue cape coat is actually doing quite well!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/03/2019 11:24

I am still blown away by Letizia’s leather dress. She looks better than the model advertising it.
I wonder whether Felipe often thinks, “ phwoar, I’ve got a hot wife”.
( he just looks a bit undemonstrative in public) Especially compared to Harry & Meghan; I know they’re newly weds or even William and Kate.

You never see Felipe and Letizia holding hands.

Did anyone else notice the awful bruise on the Queen’s hand?
Just awful to realise that she is actually very elderly and vulnerable even to bumps.

Rhubarbisevil · 01/03/2019 12:07

Uh Oh. I know that bruise. It’s the result of an IV drip. Still, this is how rumours start, so it’s nice to see the Queen sprightly and upright.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/03/2019 12:08

Oh dear, is that a bruise or is it caused by poor circulation? Poor HM!

OP posts:
boxlikeamarchhare · 01/03/2019 12:09

Or just a simple blood test bruise. I am forty years younger than HMQ and I get terrible blood test bruises.

Alwayscheerful · 01/03/2019 12:17

I like Rainia's pink dress, do you think it Would look good on Kate?
