Oh no chevvy, you too!

teta · 26/03/2019 09:45

Yes, I am thank you.
I woke up briefly when my youngest got into bed with me. Heard one bird tweet, then went back to sleep. The Farmers are all saying the birds are singing all night too. This sleeplessness is catching 😁.
Judy I’m copying you. Carillon Pour Ange is my delicious Sotd. Started off with lily of the valley shower gel and then thought I would extend the theme.

67chevvyimpala · 26/03/2019 13:36

I'm having a nap :)

67chevvyimpala · 26/03/2019 16:08

ACDD for ds1s parents evening which I had forgotten about until about an hour ago!

teta · 26/03/2019 18:25

I do things like that too Chevy.
I’m very excited to have just ordered a Tauer sample set. I’ve wanted to try L’eau for a while. Plus I’m not sure whether I’ve ever tried Laddm. I know ..... sacrilege, and two Carillon Pour Un Ange.

67chevvyimpala · 26/03/2019 19:16

Ooooh. Lovely.

I think I'm going to switch to Avon timeless for sote

cantbelievemyeyes · 26/03/2019 20:25

SOTD Molinard Figue, for the 30 mins it lasted. Very nice and only £12 for a 15ml, but definitely not a substitute for Philosykos which I had unrealistically hoped it could be, haha! So am dithering about getting Philosykos, but at £120 for a bottle of the EDP I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it. Has anyone here tried this/ any other Figs? L'Artisan Premier Figuier and ADP Fico di Amalfi often come up as alternatives, but I know I love Philosykos...

Very tempted to get 4160 Tuesdays Centrepiece while it's half price, it does work well on me. And maybe the Tauer discovery set, to jump on the bandwagon.

MotherOfDragonite · 26/03/2019 21:16

Ok, anyone want to talk to me about Mitsouko? Should I blind buy it? Or is it going to smell too much like an old lady scent on me?!

I feel like I've fallen down a bit of a rabbithole here. I have already found a number of scents that I really really love, yet I don't seem able to stop...

My absolutely favourites are Shangri La, LADDM and Eau My Soul. I continue to love MH Hidden and Scherzo. And I still have no direct replacement for Monyette Paris, which was my go-to fragrance for making people want to kiss me (ok, ok, now it's basically just the kids. But still) while still being a really delicate light touch. In case that prompts any thoughts about Mitsouko, or indeed other things you might recommend!

My lovely friend in LA is sending me a couple of little vials of Monyette Paris, but I've told myself that those are the last and I'm going to stop hunting it down as it's so hard to find now.

MotherOfDragonite · 26/03/2019 21:19

cantbelievemyeyes I really like AP Premier Figuier, but will you get an alternative version and then still lust after the one you actually originally wanted, do you think?!

Somebody asked this question on Fragrantica and there were some suggestions: www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=146746

67chevvyimpala · 26/03/2019 21:36

Mitsouko is the only guerlain I like.

I have an issue with the guerlinade base I think (have a similar issue with Chanel)

It's only a "like" though, not a love for me.

Do you like amber and sandalwood?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/03/2019 21:42

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning.

mother I am a big Mitsouko fan, but I like smelling of old ladies!

OP posts:
MotherOfDragonite · 26/03/2019 21:49

Yes chevvy, I do like amber and sandalwood a lot. I'm a bit scared of smelling like soap though and when florals are added it can go a bit that way! But I keep seeing the Hiram Green scent I love being compared to Mitsouko and it makes me wonder if I would like it too.

67chevvyimpala · 26/03/2019 21:52

I urge you to try Avon timeless...a lot cheaper than mitsouko :)

cantbelievemyeyes · 26/03/2019 21:59

Nail on the head there MotherOfDragonite Grin. I do always hope to find a cheaper version of something I love and often end up disappointed.

I like a lot of Guerlains but Mitsouko isn't for me. Maybe it's the jasmine, which I'm finding often makes me feel a bit nauseous. Wanted to love it for the peach note, and now I'm thinking I should try it again.

MrsMoggs · 26/03/2019 22:31

Mother - you need some Mitsouko, but it is a bit marmitey. Quite a dry, raspy at the back of the throat sort of mossy chypre. Stately vibe. There are loads of part-used vintage bottles on ebay - good opportunity to bag a better formulation, at low cost.

teta · 27/03/2019 09:18

I really liked Shangri La when I tried it. If only I could re-find my sample. Mitsouko isn’t my thing at all. Too many fusty obfuscating notes compared to the stripped back Shangri la. I also have a issue with most Guerlains. However Nahema is a big love along with several Aqua Allegorias.
I also really thought I disliked all Chanel until I tried Cristalle edp.All the edt’s smell terrible on me and they are always the ones that are out on the perfume counters for some reason.
Sotd is Chanel Beige. Just love the smell of Hawthorne in this. Although it’s a little too chilly for this to bloom.

MotherOfDragonite · 27/03/2019 18:25

Ha ha cantbelievemyeyes, I've been there too.

Mrs Moggs, you had me until "stately"... Grin

Thank you teta, I think you've probably described the difference well. I am going to stick with the Shangri La, I think -- its minimalism and "unfusty" vibe is one of the things I like.

SOTD is Eau My Soul. DD said "mummy, you smell so delicious!" and I melted. I have returned some clothing to the shop and instead spent the money on a 9ml bottle of Eau My Soul and Centrepiece!

I must admit had to stick my nose down my top and have a good sniff to restore my sense of equilibrium when I received the slightly snotty (wasn't it?) response to the Brexit petition, lovingly signed off from the Department For Exiting the EU. I may not be classy but the lingering Eau My Soul cheered me right up.

MotherOfDragonite · 27/03/2019 18:26

I am large of bosom, so I have to be careful to avoid "stately"... GrinGrinBlush

67chevvyimpala · 27/03/2019 18:27

Also large of bosom here

Another circle in the venn diagram??

MotherOfDragonite · 27/03/2019 18:34

Maybe two large circles, chevvy? Grin

MotherOfDragonite · 27/03/2019 18:35

PS thank you very much for the Avon Timeless recommendation, I will try to find it and have a sniff!

67chevvyimpala · 27/03/2019 18:42

Haha Haha 😂

FloofyCatTheFragranceFanatic · 27/03/2019 19:10

Hello fellow fragrance fanatics! Sorry have been MIA but I'm still reading and still smell gorgeous Grindespite my life making Brexit look like a calm and orderly proceeding in comparison Hmm Yes that response - and the whole bloody thing - is beyond infuriating isn't it. It sickens me, really, and the thought of Boris fucking Johnson or Jacob fucking Rees Mogg as PM actually makes me blood run cold. Sorry for swearing Blush

Anyway. Distracting myself (and btw, didn't lots of us have Irish passports in a previous Venn diagram btw?) with perfume. Mother could you get a sample/decant of Mitsouko from EBay or local stores? I think I like it but I might be thinking of Shalimar.

Talking of samples and encouraged by the Baccarat Rouge talk upthread, I got a decant - now tell me, is it me (probably) as I find it minging Blush i had such high hopes but it smells like paraffin on my skin. It reminds me of By the Fireplace which I also detest now (sorry Chevvy Wink) That smokey burnt smell. So if anyone would like it, happy to send it on? I think it's a 5ml spray bottle. It's genuine, I think my skin just hates it.

I have been keeping up and sure there was lots I wanted to say, I managed to get an afternoon in Selfridges and came away with lots of tester strips (mouilettes?) and was looking forward to discussing them here, but promptly forgot what they all were - my memory is atrocious (that's a medical term Grin atm). One was absolutely gorgeous, all I can remember is that it was brand new apparently, in a big square? bottle and contained amber notes . Any ideas? The longevity was amazing, I stuck the strip in my big vase of silk roses and they smelt beautiful for days!

Oh! I did want to say, you terrible bunch of enablers, I am converted to Avon Timeless - got a sample and immediately bought a whole bottle - don't you love it when you instantly fall for something like that? And so cheap! It was BOGOF so I got Silky Soft Musk (I got confused and thought it was the lillies one, it isn't but it's lovely, bit artificial on first sniff but dries down to a soft vanilla which is a very "post bath and in a fluffy bathrobe" scent.

Also, (sorry this is very me me me Blush) thanks to whoever recommended me the Amalfi Tom Ford ages ago off the back of my love for Neroli Portofino - love it. Have had far too much time in hospitals recently and NP is my hospital go to, I was getting sick of it so tried the Amalfi one. Beautiful and smells like spring is on the way. It's very similar to NP imo, probably why I like it so much Grin I missed the desert island top three but Neroli P would def be in mine. Rive Gauche and a bargainously wonderful Avon Tahitian Holiday too.

Hello to all newbie recruits to the perfume cult posters btw and welcome .../

FloofyCatTheFragranceFanatic · 27/03/2019 19:13

Fuck that was long and took me so long to type that I missed yours mother - I have a few samples of Timeless as I bought five but have the big bottle now Grin Happy to send them to you if you want to PM your address?

And also any takers for the Baccarat? which I have made sound revolting, so possibly not Grin

67chevvyimpala · 27/03/2019 19:32

I'd love the baccarat!
