I love the & other stories hand creams so need to try the perfumes.
For those who like scented body stuff, arket (same owners as &os I think) have a gorgeous collection and I believe, based on what one of their shop assistants told me, they were created by the people behind aesop - and you and definitely see this in the design and the smell. Though much much cheaper...

67chevvyimpala · 17/03/2019 08:40

french try Andy Tauer incense extreme. Incredible.

teta · 17/03/2019 08:55

frenchfoodie patchouli Clouds by Marina Barcinilla is a stunning aromatic smoky patchouli. Other than that Rook Perfumes do a couple of good ones Amber and Musk. Friedemodin Feu Follet might also be worth a try.
Patchouli Clouds again. Rich, grounded, earthy and seems to suit this capricious weather.

Georgianfairy · 17/03/2019 09:32

french Bloom perfumery do a smoke and tar pack which might be good as well as or instead of your nose samples.

Georgianfairy · 17/03/2019 09:36

I wanted to wear Miller Harris La Pluie yesterday but I didn't have any so wore Guerlain Terracotta instead which has similar notes. Sote was Armani Si which I had all but abandoned in my quest to amass all the samples. I forgot how much I love it, I really am a sucker for a sweet perfume, despite how hard I try to expand my horizons!

No sotd yet today as I'm still in pyjamas!

God, this weather is bonkers.
Over half an hour we’ve had hailstones, sleet, snow, rain and now currently have sun ......and singing birds.

Calmasasleepycat · 17/03/2019 12:25

Yesterday we had a red legged partridge in the garden. I only knew what it was by looking it up. He was very smart in his plumage!

SOTD is Sisley Izia. This is a classy citrussy rose. Lasts 4 hours or so.

MotherOfDragonite · 17/03/2019 14:45

SOTD is Nocturne Parisienne from & Other Stories... I actually went all the way back to get it, because it was on sale. It's an EDP and I think it's been discontinued because I got it on 70% off for £12! (In fact, got two bottles when I saw the price at the till).

It's really lovely, peppery and warm (saffron? amber?) and subtle.

CountFosco · 17/03/2019 15:09

SotD Live in Love. Gorgeous day today here after the heavy rain yesterday. Been out for Sunday lunch wearing Live in Love. Perfect for Spring weather!

67chevvyimpala · 17/03/2019 15:18

Weather totally mad here too.

Ds1 and dh have gone out for the afternoon, hope its dry where they are!

cantbelievemyeyes · 17/03/2019 18:10

Dodged the crazy weather for an hour in Selfridges Manchester with a brilliant sniffing session. I bought a travel case for my 10ml Frédéric Malles and the lady give me 5 free samples Grin

Got chatting with another assistant and mentioned how I'd just tried Xerjoff Ceylon, and thought it was amazing, but at £495 for 50ml it was way out of my (and most people's) league. Well she only dashed off and did me a sample, must be a good 5ml! What a lovely thing to do, was a bit stunned! An excellent Sunday.

MotherOfDragonite · 17/03/2019 18:12

A bit random, but what are your favourite more 'natural' perfumes? Is this a thing?

I find that synthetic fragrances can sometimes give me a headache (I haven't figured out what it is exactly that does this) -- but also I just feel I generally prefer the smell of natural fragrances. But I don't know where to start.

MrsMoggs · 17/03/2019 18:19

Have emptied my Perfume Society boxes into the samples store (lovely though they are, they do take up a bit of space). Am now on a mission to go back and pay my samples a bit more attention.

I started today with Nuit Etoilee (so cold and metallic). Will have another dip later.

Your red legged partridge looks very exotic Calm. I have been driven mad this weekend by monotone birdsong that sounds like a squeaky chair (especially at dusk). Have been googling and am pretty sure it is a nuthatch (makes a lot of noisy for a little bird).

MrsMoggs · 17/03/2019 18:26

Mother - for naturals, have you had a look at Our Modern Lives on the 4160 website? Think they are selling off the 10ml and 100mls?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/03/2019 20:19

SOTD Tauer Une Rose Chypree. I know I am going to get booted out for saying this, but I really do not like it. It reminds me of dusty aftershave from the 80s.

We have wood pigeons in the trees at the end of the garden. I've tld the kids that their call is them saying 'I don't know' which is hilarious apparently so now we have long stupid woodpigeon conversations at the breakfast table.

1frenchfoodie · 17/03/2019 21:36

Thanks for all the smokey recommendations.

There is very little overlap between the Bloom selection and what Nose stock georgian (just bois d’ascèse), I may get both. I have already got a Tauer shopping list for their discovery pack so good to know incense extreme scores so highly chevy.

Just looked up patchouli clouds teta, sounds amazimg on paper. No France stockists, do I really have to go to somerset to smell it? Like the look of Rook too. Forest and Undergrowth are already on my must smell list for my other loves of greenery/earth.

Must pay more attention next time I am near to a wood pigeon count Smile

MotherOfDragonite · 17/03/2019 22:15

Thank you MrsMoggs. I do want to check out 4160 Tuesdays and this would be a great place for me to start! I've ordered a small roll-on of Blue and loooooooads of samples of their "normal" stuff... Blush

I don't know what I'm talking about generally, 1frenchfoodie, but I did love the strong but smooth smokiness of Velvet by Commodity.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 18/03/2019 08:21

Morning all, happy Monday! SOTD is Avery E. This is rather lovely and very reminiscent of Alaia Paris to me with its soft woody leatheryness. A random pick from the samples box which turned out rather well Grin

judy - interesting you say that about Rose Chypree. After lusting after it for soooo long I retried it yesterday from my Tauer discovery set and found that I wasn't nearly as enamoured of it as I remembered. Perhaps it's just that the other two roses I have in that set (Incense and Vermeille) have now overtaken it on the love-list...or maybe I'm just fickle!

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 18/03/2019 08:23

Wood pigeons are probably one of my favourite sounds. They remind me of being very small and lying in bed at my grandparents' house during the summer, hearing them call to each other (the pigeons, not my grandparents Grin). They epitomise English summers to me.

MrsMoggs · 18/03/2019 08:34

Wood pigeons sit on our chimney stack and regularly terrify the kids when there amplified and disembodied calls boom out of the fireplace. The cat seems to show them respect too Smile.

Maud - could I tempt you to describe those three rose Tauers? I've ordered two of them but am impatient Grin(and also wondering if I went for the right two?).

Hit the woody section of the samples box - SotD #1 Wonderwood and #2 Aqua di Parma Sandalo.

Hope all well x

Lotsofpots · 18/03/2019 13:14

chevvy I've messaged you. Thanks x

SOTD is Liz Earle no9. Normally ignored in favour of my beloved no 15, but since discovering 4160 Tuesdays I've come to appreciate its fruitiness.
