Ladies, can I have any personal recommendations for a violet perfume? I know you can search for notes online I just wanted your opinions. I can have a sniff in Boots, Selfridges, Debenhams, Harvey Nichols or Lush tomorrow afternoon.

Hello Jayne, I’m with you on the sweet smells, I love them too! It would be worth your trying some of the other Britneys as most of them are sweet, but I don’t think they last beyond 3-4 hours. You might find a real “love” and just resign yourself to having to respray during the day. Do try Rihanna Rebelle and Rihanna Reb’l Fleur and also SJP NYC. Also, if you are in one of the bigger department stores, see if they stock Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540. This has a stunning burnt sugar note which I adore and it definitely lasts all day. It is very expensive, though! The other suggestion I have is to get some samples from 4160Tuesdays. They are good quality perfumes, not outrageously expensive. You can ask them to advise you, but my suggestions would be: Silk, Lace & Chocolate; New York ‘55; Centrepiece; Sunshine & Pancakes and, maybe, Over the Chocolate Shop.

Calmasasleepycat · 12/03/2019 21:46

Hello, Thedarklady, I second all of 67’s suggestions. Also you will find Yardley’s April Violets in Boots. If you’re on a high street and there is The Fragrance Shop, they have Pharrell Williams’ Girl on sale. I don’t think It has sold very well (poor marketing decisions I think) and will probably go out of stock quite soon, but it is a classy perfume made in conjunction with Comme Des Garçons. It has a lot of violet in it. You do need to test it, though, as it is very polarising!

67chevvyimpala · 12/03/2019 21:52

Oh I forgot girl! :)

Georgianfairy · 12/03/2019 21:58

Hi Jayne, following on from Calm's post, Perfume Parlour do a great dupe of Baccarat Rouge called Card Red, it lasts well as it's oil based and I can't tell the difference between that and the original.

Givenchy Hot Couture smells like sherbet and is a long-standing favourite of mine. Again, PP do a good dupe.

Laura Mercier do some lovely gourmands like crème brulee which will not be cheap but would be worth looking for dupes of.

Where do you stand on Angel? That to me is the ultimate cloying sweet scent and I used to love it! It had great lasting power too.

MotherOfDragonite · 12/03/2019 23:22

I am excited as I have various samples to try out over the next couple of days...

Joy by Dior
Floral Street - London Poppy, Neon Rose, Black Lotus, Iris Goddess
Miller Harris - L'Eau Magnetic

Also I want to go in to SpaceNK and try something that I sniffed last time I was in there... Velvet by Commodity (who I've never heard of). It was lush and sweet and dark.

Jayne05 · 13/03/2019 07:45

sleepycat & Georgianfairy thanks for your recs. To be fair I haven’t tried many pp dupes so may be worth me buying a few, I’ll def try the baccarat rouge one. You are right tho, maybe I just have to accept respraying regularly! I have heard of 4160 Tuesdays from reading these threads but never smelt any, sounds like it could be worth trying a few samples. The names alone sound amazing!
I’m not sure about Angel, I don’t dislike it at all but it’s never blown me away like the v&r scents do. Thank you all xx

Calmasasleepycat · 13/03/2019 07:59

Georgian Card Red is going on my PP list. Thank you!

Jayne, happy hunting 😊!

Headinabook85 · 13/03/2019 08:43

Oooh hello.

I am totally in awe of these threads because I have very little knowledge on perfume.

I currently own:

Green wheat and Meadowsweet Jo Malone not sure if I actually like it 😂

Miss Dior (run out)

My Burberry (this is okay but was just a freebie)

I love the way Chloevsmells on others and Pure Grace too but neither seem to smell the same when I wear them. They seems to disappear v quickly.

I'd love to hear some advice from you about how to up my scent game!

67chevvyimpala · 13/03/2019 10:27

I've bought a swanky new perfume tray for my dresser :)

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 13/03/2019 10:46

Just picked up 50mls of Prada Infusions d'Iris for £30! bargain IMHO :)

67chevvyimpala · 13/03/2019 11:04

I can't smell :(

Calmasasleepycat · 13/03/2019 12:08

Ooh, photo please 67! I use the “looking for a perfume tray” excuse as a reason for exploring charity shops, but haven’t found a tray that’s exactly what I want yet. There have been some near misses in TKMaxx, though.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 13/03/2019 12:12

Just popping in, work has gone to shit so am not being very perfumista-y ATM but just wanted to say hi to everyone including all the lovely newbies, do stick around!

SOTD Memoirs of a Trespasser. Am in desperate need of an FB of this. Divine smoky boozy vanilla comfort, much needed.

67chevvyimpala · 13/03/2019 13:10

Yes that's right kali

I adore it when I can smell it

Georgianfairy · 13/03/2019 13:19

I was hoping my discovery set would come today as I'm working from home but no such luck. The feel unique samples did arrive though so am in Miller Harris Peau Santal now.

MotherOfDragonite · 13/03/2019 14:47

SOTD Miller Harris Scherzo. I really love it. I didn't expect to. I smell kind of... expensive. I have no idea what the actual smells are but it's quite sweet but sophisticated.

I do really like oil-based perfumes, though. I feel like they have a different kind of quality. I wish there were more of them.

67chevvyimpala · 13/03/2019 15:16

Peau santal is lovely. Too ladylike for me though :)

cantbelievemyeyes · 13/03/2019 19:05

SOTD Miller Harris Lumiere Doree. This has been a real grower for me actually; a cheapie TK Maxx blind buy of the travel set with Etui Noir. I like the bitter Neroli, though it's just a touch too musky for me to love it.

I'm intrigued about the PP Baccarat Rouge 540. I have the real stuff and it's my joint favourite scent, and I wonder if part of that is because it's so expensive it makes me feel all special! When it eventually runs out I may try the PP version, as I don't want to feel like I've wasted money on the real stuff, haha. Though my last couple of PP buys have been a bit poor, so not planning another order any time soon.

67chevvyimpala · 13/03/2019 19:10

Sote Avon timeless

KaliforniaDreamz · 13/03/2019 20:24

i layered my fahrenheit with my acqua di parma iris noble and honestly i have had an amusing day. breathing in the whiff of an exciting liason from my youth, suddenly interrupted by the pricey sweet old italian lady vibe.
all while standing in the rain watching my DS play footy.
