Here we go again, and as always say what you like about the clothes but keep it civil re the wearers of said clothes!

If you told me the dress Meghan wore today came from Zara or H&M I'd believe you. I'm sure close up you'd notice the difference but in the photos I can't see it being worth ££££
Mind you I couldn't understand how both Kate and Meghan's wedding dresses were so costly.

Paradyning · 01/02/2019 21:00

But Kate's hideous red one tonight is 2k. For something that looks like Primani. That was bought with tax payers money as well (I presume) as she wore it for a trip.
What's the difference between Kate's spending and Meghan's?
If that dress was bought from the public purse I have an issue with her wearing it privately. Especially if you want to separate your public and private life.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/02/2019 21:05

Been looking at Queen Letizia’s outfits.
She wears a lot of Zara, Hugo Boss and Massimo Dutti, so never more than a few hundred euros on an outfit and she is a Queen.
Apparently Meghan had a “Sayonara Zara” party to ditch her clothes when she started getting well paid on Suits.
But in 18 months, she has got a taste for couture and expensive clothes.
I don’t know who advises her. Perhaps the new communications secretary whom she had lunch with in Notting Hill could let her know how she is perceived.

Alwayscheerful · 01/02/2019 21:06

@FlyMayBe someone did say she looks dumpy, Meghan is a beautiful, well groomed woman, her makeup is flawless however today's dress did not not flatter her in any way.

hopeishere · 01/02/2019 21:10

Who's the new communications person @CurlyWurlyTwirly ??

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/02/2019 21:10

Interesting point @paradyning.
Kate wore that dress at a reception in Poland, so it would have been paid for by the Foreign Office ( ie Us).
In her case, Dresses bought for overseas trips do tend to be reworn for work engagements. I guess she doesn’t have that many party dresses which aren’t full length gowns.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/02/2019 21:12

@hopeishere

itswinetime · 01/02/2019 21:14

There isn't they both spend a ridiculous amount on dress and I'm not sure I have ever seen a dress I think is really worth 2k but then I guess I'm in a different world. I think the fact that Kate re wears a lot is probably why the attention is more on Meghan at the moment. Hopefully in time Meghan will show the same practical approach.

To be honest while we are all about the gowns and I may get kicked of the threads for saying it. They could both do with more high street less designer.

FlyMayBe · 01/02/2019 21:18

I agree re the dress, @Alwayscheerful although I must admit I've made many a fashion faux-pas myself over the years. Grin

But calling MM short and dumpy is unkind and uncalled for. We can critique the dress, but surely not the physique of the wearer.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/02/2019 21:19

I think high street would be good currently.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/02/2019 21:19

I'd hope the reason we see so much new gear on Meghan is because she's only been married 7 months and is building up a royal wardrobe. Also, she won't be able to fit into her pre-marriage clothes at this point. I think Kate wore a lot of stuff she already owned in the months following her marriage but she didn't have to contend with pregnancy and an expanding figure.

CreakyBlinder · 01/02/2019 21:20

I am Confused at the Daily Mail saying Kate is 'dressed in her usual resourceful fashion' because she's wearing something that cost over 2k - but hey, she's worn it before!

itswinetime · 01/02/2019 21:21

@FlyMayBe If your referring to my comment then I think you have taken It wrong what I said was

I don't know why she isn't wearing maternity maybe it is so she can rewear post hopefully but the cut is all wrong over the bump it makes her look dumpy which she definitely isn't.

Which is my opinion on the outfit not the person which maybe I should have made clearer. Meghan is stunning that outfit in my opinion didn't do her justice. Maybe my word choice wasn't the best but I wasnt trying to bash her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/02/2019 21:21

I was in Club Monaco today and there was a lot of very Marklesque clothing on sale. Unfortunately Megs won't be fitting into any of it right now!

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/02/2019 21:26

@CreakyBlinder I noticed that too. They're just trying to stoke the Kate vs Meghan narrative.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/02/2019 21:34

I don’t see an issue with Meghan buying a fair few coats ; that’s what we see them in the most. Kate has loads too.
But to then buy a non maternity designer dress for £££s, which is probably not even her prepregnancy size and is ill fitting to boot is a spectacular waste of money.
The formula she used at the Mayhew: cheap H&M maternity dress plus an expensive coat, which she could rewear afterwards was acceptable.

I am so fed up with seeing her in ill fitting clothes. Just because she can do it up doesn’t mean it fits.
Her biggest problems are clothes which are way too tight or way too long.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/02/2019 21:36

If they fit her now, they won’t when she’s non pregnant. Or she won’t want to wear it incase pp think she should pg again.

Clionba · 01/02/2019 21:38

I just don't get why she's not bought maternity clothes like everyone else.

user1457017537 · 01/02/2019 21:38

Well when I was in nursery and school, admittedly many years ago we didn’t play out in the rain and had wet playtimes where comics and games cane out. I find it abhorrent that little children are bought out to flag wave in this weather. It smacks of let them eat cake and makes a Republican of me. I couldn’t care less how much MM spends but I do have a problem with little children standing around in bad weather to make her look good.

FlyMayBe · 01/02/2019 21:41

Sorry @itswinetime - I was scrolling too fast and managed to mix your comment up with another poster who called the DoS short.

Think she should sack the stylist and employ someone who actually understands the many old-fashioned rules unspoken traditions and nuances of British royalty appearing in public.

Hairydilemma · 01/02/2019 21:45

I’m not sure how the children being in the cold can be made Meghan’s fault though - I don’t imagine she demanded they were there!

Or maybe she did:

M: I won’t go to Bristol unless there is a bevy of tiny chilled people with red cheeks to greet me! [stamps foot]

H: What Meghan wants, Meghan gets! Line up the toddlers, and make them wave flags!!

user1457017537 · 01/02/2019 21:47

Not her fault I agree but I think bad judgment after all schools all over had snow days today. I will shut up now

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/02/2019 21:47

I agree @Hairydilemma, it's a non-issue and if the kids were wrapped up warmly, which they looked to be, and their parents gave permission then there's no point getting het up about it! Anyway as a PP said, the nursery was across the road so it's not like they had to trudge through snow for hours.

Jeremy Paxman has a new TV show out and the trailer basically says “what’s the point of the younger Royals?”.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/02/2019 21:50

H&M talking to the kids is very cute though
