Completely missed the ball with the previous thread so hope this thread is easy enough to find!

The Swedes don't bother with exaggerated curtsies. Good baby handling by the archbishop. I have a vision in my mind's eye of him practicing at home with a grandchild Smile.

Swedish sounds like a lovely, soft language.

Paradyning · 23/01/2019 21:36

He's adopted Kate's Jazz hands.
Love Max's top and necklace. Presuming her shoes are sensible snow shoes or something!

LaurenOrdering · 23/01/2019 21:42

Yes Swedish is a lovely sounding language. I have some of the ABBA songs sung in their original Swedish & they sound even better than the English versions. (Sounds mad but they do.)

BeaLola · 23/01/2019 22:03

Max manages to always look fab. Even when I look critically at her hair sometimes and think she needs a trim / hairspray etc or I don’t like the style of a particular outfit she wears everything so well from casual to classic to real top evening wear - she always looks so engaged and enjoying life and she seems pretty busy too

thisshitgotreal · 23/01/2019 23:03

Camilla looked fab today - just saw the pics in the horrible DM. That green is similar to the DoC green from yesterday!

Her makeup and hair looks great too. I really like her - she seems like she would be great fun. Crazy to think how slated she was in the Diana era!

Bloominglovely · 23/01/2019 23:44

That is how I pronounce Estelle too, although maybe I don’t emphasise the second ‘l’ as much. That is the general pronounciation though?

SenecaFalls · 24/01/2019 00:38

I read that there were some objections to the name in Sweden because it was not a traditional royal name. Kudos to Victoria and Daniel for simply using a name they liked. Plus the name means "star" which the little princess certainly is.

I hope this link works. I love looking at the style transformations especially people like Sophie.

Camilla was Charles’ long time mistress before and for sometime during his marriage to Diana. I too like Camilla but it’s not crazy to think how she was slated during the Diana era. The circumstances of the marriage and both parties various affairs are well documented and people then, like now, had their opinion.

mathanxiety · 24/01/2019 07:36

LaurenOrdering - not a bit mad.
I frequently play Agnetha's Swedish version of Everything's Alright ('Nu skall du bli stilla') from an early 70s Swedish production of Jesus Christ Superstar (she sang the Mary Magdalene role).

Is it possible I have run into a fellow Abba nerd?

ElspethFlashman · 24/01/2019 07:44

Camillas Green suit is excellent. She really knows her own figure, I appreciate that. Nothing is ever lumpy or bumpy, she gets good advice.

Not that she has a bad figure, far from it! But it's "normal slim" as opposed to "skinny slim" and nothing is ever too tight or unflattering.

She seems to have such a good rapport with people. She's well able to talk to everyone. She seems to find it easy to chat away.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/01/2019 07:49

@sherbetlemon
That’s a great link.
Can’t get over Mette Marit with the skinhead Shock
I’ve only got to know Queen Mathilde through this thread and she looks like she’s always been a Queen. Most surprised to hear she was a speech therapist.

Meghan and Letizia have always looked polished; probably because they were already in the public eye.
Becoming Royal seems to have given all the women an extra layer of polish.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/01/2019 07:53

CP Mary is in Davos launching a Global fashion initiative. ( Who even knew that was a Thing?)

The woman next to her looks like she is on a hen do with that wierd glittery bra top and the light behind her head. Unfortunate photo.

This was interesting commentary on the forum, about Fashion and Davos; which to me is just a networking event for world leaders.

^
Honestly, the "Global fashion agenda" is an oxymoron in itself. If you want sustainable development, you need to reduce consumption and advocate for long-term solutions. The fashion industry does the exact opposite: ever-accelerating production (to fuel consumption) by permanently re-inventing products that didn´t need reinvention, launching trends to make consumers buy new stuff all the time, mass-producing clothing with often cheap materials that are harmful to workers, consumers and environment. I have nothing against Mary, but this patronage is useless, and a royal princess with a gazillion outfits who also promotes the fashion industry is the least suitable person to sell sustainable fashion ideas. And lastly, discussing such ideas in a luxurious and extravagant Swiss alp resort, far far away from the places most impacted by profit-driven mega companies, doesn´t exactly make it more credible.^

queenofarles · 24/01/2019 08:31

thats Eva Kruse wearing the glittery bra,she is german classical music composer/ fashion magazine editor. and director of The Fashion Initiative Agenda
Davos and sustainable fashion don't sound right together, specially when H&M and US chain store Target are members of The Fashion Initiative Agenda.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 24/01/2019 09:41

I love that fashion slideshow! So interesting to see the changes,, also how much younger they all seem to look now! This could be down to fashions & makeup fashions changing though I guess. Maxima was a proper stunner (still is) and Mette-Marit made me Shock. Charlene looks very different too.

MrFMercury · 24/01/2019 09:42

I hate to lower the tone but CP Mary looks like she has unfortunate camel toe in that photo and one of Eva Kruse's eyebrows looks red compared to the other.

BigGreenOlives · 24/01/2019 10:04

Livia Firth has been involved with it for a while & they’ve managed to get Gucci to stop using fur, they do some good. She was doing her red carpet initiative trying to get people to rewear clothes rather than always new.

Sorry for the derail.

BertrandRussell · 24/01/2019 10:13

“Crazy to think how slated she was in the Diana era!”

I’m no Diana fan. Or any sort of Royal fan. But the way Charles and Camilla behaved in those days was extraordinarily outrageous. Their continuing affair was a barely concealed “secret” and they gaslighted the very young Diana shamelessly.

beanaseireann · 24/01/2019 10:28

I love the velvet dress the lady beside CPMary is wearing. Anyone know where it's from ?

thisshitgotreal · 24/01/2019 10:28

I didnt mean it was crazy that she was slated back then, because I agree that her behaviour/involvement with Charles was awful when he had a young, vulnerable wife and two very young sons.

What I mean was that it is incredible that someone who was once so slated, is now really popular and liked. Its just a complete 180 with the press. I just find that incredible really.

beanaseireann · 24/01/2019 10:29

I'm with Bertrand re Camilla.
I've no time for Camilla.
Or Charles.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/01/2019 10:37

@thisshitgotreal I put that down to excellent PR. Wasn't there a documentary Charles tried to get banned about how he hired a spin doctor to change his image once he wanted to marry Camilla? My theory is that she was happy with the status quo but realised she'd pretty much have to marry him at that point and take on royal duties late in life. Credit to her, she's done well and no one who's met her has a bad word to say about her, but I always had the feeling she was reluctant and that's why she's kept Ray Mill, so that she can escape when she wants to.

OP posts:
thisshitgotreal · 24/01/2019 10:43

Yeah, agreed @Queen. I work in marketing so I just find the PR/brand aspect of Charles and Camilla fascinating. I think you're right that she is reluctant.

I just remember thinking back in the early 1990's that she was vile (and their behaviour WAS vile) but now I quite like her, and as a pp said - she seems like she is quite good fun and warm and always engages with whoever she is meeting. Its just amazing that someone can be so hated and then some decent PR/media attention and the bad times are all but brushed under the carpet.

MarshaBradyo · 24/01/2019 10:45

It has been a huge turnaround
They’d purposely put up the worst photos back then so she looks better in the press now

Kate M has had similar but not as severe. I guess it helps to not be the newest kid on the block
