No loons, crimplene or brown for me in the 70s. Like the song says Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci. Shops like Crocodile, Elle and Biba. Hair by Molten Brown in South Molten Street. Diana was a beautiful young girl and looks ancient in that get up.

SenecaFalls · 26/01/2019 11:26

I think Philip is a definite name possibility of it's a boy.

For those of us who came to style consciousness in the 60s (so Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn), the 70s and the 80s had a lot to answer for, but I agree that the 70s were probably worse. Although getting married in the 80s, as I did, where every available wedding dress in the shops looked like Diana's on steriods, was quite a challenge in itself.

Clionba · 26/01/2019 11:42

Nope, user, no money for Halston in Bradford in 1972! Various shades of brown, nylon and crimplene. Hey, style is subjective, so we'll just need to disagree!!

Moononthehill28 · 26/01/2019 11:42

I would guess they’ll pick an American name just to make a point. Somehow I don’t think it will a classic family name. If it’s a girl I would guess Diana will be a middle name.

Gooseysgirl · 26/01/2019 11:52

I think Elizabeth is a strong contender as a first name for a girl. Boys name I think Charles will be one of the names but not necessarily first name.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/01/2019 11:53

Very true @user1457017537, she is only about 26 in those Australia Day photos. I remember her being there for the bicentennial celebrations.

I think that they have to go for a classic British name. They're just a step too close to the Crown to be able to choose a Mia / Savannah type name (though with three cousins ahead of them, it's incredibly unlikely that H&M child would ever sit on the throne even once the older generations have passed)

Charlotte is, of course, the feminine form of Charles. I wonder about Philippa for a girl? It would be rather nice

Clionba · 26/01/2019 12:06

Unlikely to have Philipppa because of Pippa, that's her name? Could be an interesting choice. Rachel is Meghan's first name, but she may not like it.

Bloominglovely · 26/01/2019 12:11

I think (and I have absolutely no reason why) that they will choose a name like Emily. Or one of Diana’s middle names as a first name. Otherwise Diana itself will feature.

For a boy something like William if the rumours of the rift between the brothers are untrue) at least for a second name. But again I think Meghan and Harry will go outside previous ‘royal’ names for the first name.

I glimpsed a headline they are going for s genderless nursery so a name such as Alexander/Alexandra would fit the bill for either a boy or girl. But again I think they will choose a first name that is not a traditional royal name.

OlennasWimple · 26/01/2019 12:17

Don't think that's a problem. Pippa is Harry's sister in law's sister, and will only be an honorary aunt to the Sussex baby

Clankboing · 26/01/2019 12:28

If you look up American feminists (and many American names in general) many are traditional names though. However, the more I think about it, the more I could imagine Elizabeth being used for a girl, possibly with a nickname such as Betty / Betsy / Bessie / Eliza. Those nicknames are quite fashionable at the moment but not overused. But Dorothy (Dot) from Doria would be beautiful, traditional yet different from the norm. I love choosing names so I will be very loud about my success if I am right!

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/01/2019 12:28

The headlines re a "genderless nursery" are so ridiculous!

OP posts:
Clionba · 26/01/2019 12:31

Aren't they, Queen?! We must have been 25 years ahead of the curve, our child's bedroom was cream! It's all silly. Not everyone goes down the princess pink - boyish blue malarkey!!

Clankboing · 26/01/2019 12:33

Mmm, Diana's middle names is Frances, which is quite nice. Francesca which is similar is lovely and has a bit of the grandiose about it. I could imagine both of them actually. Although Frances Sussex is a bit of a mouthful.

Bloominglovely · 26/01/2019 12:51

I agree the genderless nursery headline was silly. I didn’t click the article and we also decorated in neutrals although we found out the gender as soon as we could.

I wonder if these stories are completely made up or how they are ‘leaked’?

Clankboing · 26/01/2019 13:00

We also decorated the nursery in a gender neutral colour even though we knew the gender. It was the nicest range I could find. I am sure that even if M&H know, if they decorated in pink or blue the gender would be leaked straight away.

Clionba · 26/01/2019 13:02

Isn't that how George's gender was leaked? The purchase of the blue cot sheets and accessories from that King's Road shop.

Clankboing · 26/01/2019 13:06

I don't know Clionba. I wouldn't be surprised. If you think about it I guess it would not have to be a person who works at their home, it could be somebody who works at the company that things are bought from, a visiting plumber or roofer, anyone really.

Clionba · 26/01/2019 13:17

True, even casually, someone remarking in all innocence, not thinking it's a confidence broken.
Maybe Meghan and Harry just liked a particular shade or wallpaper not thinking about gender!

beanaseireann · 26/01/2019 13:30

New thread please QueenoftheAndals

Bloominglovely · 26/01/2019 13:44

Was Geirge’s gender leaked? I don’t read tabloids other than headlines that flash up and this thread wasn’t running then.
