mikado Everytime I look at it I like it more. A small thing, but I feel energized by doing something a bit different.

Statement from the Press Office of Queen Rania

In accordance with transparency principle and in order to provide the public with true information, we would like to make a statement regarding a popular issue.

At the beginning of every year, some foreign blogs make guesses regarding the cost of outfits of royal families across the world and publishes their guesses on social platforms. Last year, we noticed a series of wrong publications on social media platforms regarding the cost of daily outfits of the Queen, which were far from the truth. When we consider those mistakes which does not reflect the real situation, we requested that outfit costs of the Queen not to be included in the annual reports of “Ufo No More”.

For years, numerous publications have been made about the cost of outfits of the Queen. We took into consideration the interest of the public and thus decided to enlighten some details about that subject.

The Queen wishes to represent Jordan correctly and majority of the outfits worn by her during her representation are either borrowed from fashion houses or presented as gifts to the Queen or purchased for low prices. Guesses of blogs regarding the cost of the outfit depend only on “market value” and create a false impression.

The principle of “borrowing” outfits from Fashion Houses is a common practice as a way of introducing the designs of fashion houses. Some people may question why a person with a status like the Queen accepts the principle of “borrowing”, however unless the designers are not Jordanian, we would not make advertisements about any fashion house on social media pages of the Queen.

In many countries, focusing on the spendings of leaders and their spouses and accusing them of extravagance is not a new thing and has been used as a political means in the history.

The Queen is aware of these criticisms and approves that criticism is an important part of the press work and that she is open to all kinds of criticism. The Queen respects the criticisms, always takes them seriously and gives answers to them. We know that this statement may be extraordinary, however rumours and false information that are far from the truth may cause false impression on the public and so we enlightened some details by this statement to prevent that.

Well that is very unusual, but it does clear up a few things, which means it probably applies to other royals.
She & her team read the blogs ( and maybe us).
Rania borrows clothes, but only Jordanian designers; in order to showcase them.
They are also purchased cheaply or are gifts.

Letizia is probably the most frugal, and imho, one of the better dressed.
She often wears high street

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 17:42

Have we seen these photos of Mar and Fre yet? I like her blue gown better than her other new year dresses.

And Queen Margarethe in a floor-length fur coat because that's just how she rolls!

Obsessed with how she wore her stonking great Ruby brooch at the neckline of that gown.

That's what elevates Mary and Max. That's something British ladies generally don't do.

(Well except Princess Michael.....)

queenofarles · 05/01/2019 18:20

curly I'm familiar with that region , believe me the Queen spends a lot on clothes, so did Asma Al Assad.
the problem is , Jordan is going through very difficult economical problems and they've Been burdened with the influx of Iraqi and Syrian refugees.

they increased the tax on fuel and Removed the government support on basic staples like bread.
How would the minimum wage citizen , who barely makes ends meet feel about thier Queen extravagant expenditure?
Even people in far richer countries like Norway and Denmark are known to criticize thier royals expenditure.

user1457017537 · 05/01/2019 18:32

I think all Royals, our own included, need to be aware of the uncertain economic times people are going through.

ElspethFlashman · 05/01/2019 18:39

Yeah and they whole "Megan has to build a wardrobe" argument doesn't wash with me at all. Kate wore shit loads of Zara at first. And the odd Warehouse and Oasis thing. She wore loads of Reiss too, and whilst that's out of my budget, it wouldn't be if I had a naice corporate job. She wore the same shoes for about 2 years.

It makes me queasy, the amount Megan has spent. I just don't think there's any valid argument for such spending when you're trying to win over the public.

Laiste · 05/01/2019 18:50

Perhaps she isn't trying to win over the public?

I don't mean that in a snippy way. I'm just thinking, it's easy/automatic to assume that she's worried about how she's being seen by the public (perhaps because in her shoes we ourselves would?) However maybe she doesn't actually care much what we think of her personally?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 18:52

I posted CP !ary in the blue dress on the other thread; I think it got missed.
I really like it; the black one with the brown print on the 31st was a horror.
I didn’t mind the silver one.
Mary is also getting more regal and covered up. The brooch looked good at her neck.

This quote about Queen Margarethe’s furs:
«This fur coat is one of Queen Margrethe's latest. She gets them as gifts from Danish fur companies on special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays I think she has more than 10 including jackets in sealskin and shawls «
I think they are unacceptable. I thought because she is old, they may be vintage. Strutting about in freshly killed animal skin is not a good look.
HM has ( I hope vintage) furs, but she is wise enough not to wear them in public.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 18:55

@ElspethFlashman
Yes I forgot about Kate wearing a lot of Reiss. She still wears some high end high street. She even wore TopShop in India

I guess apart from her wedding dress; Meghan will not repeat the mistake of her £56k engagement dress. I suspect that one was borrowed.

ElspethFlashman · 05/01/2019 18:56

I hope she doesn't care, cos the feedback I've observed is mixed..... At best.

I'm not a massive fan, and it's not because of her family or because she's American or an actress or whatever. It's actually because of the spending. I think its tone deaf. When that engagement picture came out and it turns out it was a 40k dress or whatever I was like ShockShockShock

That's more than I earn in a year.

frugalkitty · 05/01/2019 19:06

I really like the blue dress that Mary is wearing in that link. The black dress she wore on NYE looked like it had patches of mould on it!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/01/2019 19:08

I have been reading some blind gossip, and there is talk that a PR company is being paid to promote positive stories about Meghan.
Quote

This media conglomerate being paid to pick sides in the royal contest is probably going to regret it. The thing is though, they keep adding outlets and all of them are not exactly trashing the more famous royal, but rather ignoring her and talking up the alliterate one as much as possible. Meghan Markle

These are the Condé Nast publications promoting Meghan recently
Cosmo: Meghan’s favourite makeup

Glamour: the Christmas card is breathtaking

VF: Meghan is transforming the RF

Vogue: Meghan on best dressed list; Kate is not

GQ: Meghan Markle broke the internet

These are articles from 10 days in December.

VamillaSugar · 05/01/2019 19:08

I think Meghan is like a kid with a credit card in a candy shop. She’s suddenly got a free rein to buy expensive clothes and she’s milking it. Hopefully the novelty will wear off.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 19:09

I think a more accurate estimation of Meghan's spending would date from the day after her wedding, when she officially became a royal. I assume she paid for everything she wore prior to that herself, so I don't see that it's a problem. This year's total will be more accurate as she'll have been a royal for all of 2019.

frugalkitty · 05/01/2019 19:10

Just catching up before my phone dies.....as I remember it, when Fergie left baby Bea at home her reasoning behind it was that she and Andrew were a couple first, and she felt they needed to prioritise their relationship as a couple above bring a family which half makes sense (when you have staff to look after things at home) but sadly didn't work seeing as the marriage didn't last!

Cel982 · 05/01/2019 19:16

Americans don't get much maternity leave.

Well no, they don't, but it's not because American women are just dying to leave their newborns at home to go and pump milk in an office bathroom. Most women in the US would kill for six months' maternity leave, I hope Meghan takes full advantage.

Is that blind gossip from Lainey, Curly? I don't rate her as a source. She clearly has links to some of the people involved, but doesn't seem to have a clue about how the RF works.

Wetdogloveshubert · 05/01/2019 19:21

I love the blue dress, it's gorgeous and so well accessorised!

Personally I can't get too worked up about how much Meghan spends on clothes - the engagement dress would have been while she was still spending her personal money,
and it was a big occasion. Why not wear something utterly fabulous - Harry isn't going to be a major royal in years to come, and as has been discussed on previous threads has his own money. Given the funds for all their 'work clothes' comes from the Duchy (if I remember correctly) it's not public funds. They have to showcase our country, as well as be fashionable - you can't always do that in Zara.

ElspethFlashman · 05/01/2019 19:22

Curly wasn't it Boohoo or Missguided or something?? Even cheaper! I loved that dress actually, I loved all her India wardrobe. Loads of swoony embroidery.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/01/2019 19:29

I loved Kate's India wardrobe, that relaxed boho vibe really suited her. I especially coveted the Tory Burch dress she wore to dinner with the Bhutanese royals. Let's face it, if you're going to be at the table with Queen Jetsun then you have to up your style game!
