Previous thread.

Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

Oh blimey, another headband. I still just don't know about them. It's not that they look bad - they're just so different from the sort of hats I've always loved (I like a little cocktail hat at an angle myself), I just can't get my head around them. (Haha, no pun intended there Grin).

Lomondstripe · 06/01/2019 16:59

The blue headband and earrings give a very ‘girl with the pearl earring’ vibe!

I think she is very much gradually building an image of herself in a uniform which has 2 positive outcomes for her:

  1. she’s building an image of herself as considering this her work (as quite a separate style to what her ‘real’ life choices might be) and also creating a regal silhouette that cements that picture of her as a working royal.

  2. creating a distinction between Duchess Catherine and Kate - if she continues to be seen in public in a headband and coat, all the more likely that someone would walk past her in the park in Barbour and ponytail and not take too much notice.

I do think they both look tired, but I would imagine that with a baby and 2 children off school, they’re probably just happy Christmas is over Grin

BigGreenOlives · 06/01/2019 17:00

I expect Kate goes to the same dress maker as her mum somewhere near her parent’s house & has alterations done very reasonably. She might use it as an excuse to go and see her parents and she probably trusts her mother’s opinion.

LaurenOrdering · 06/01/2019 17:06

HMQ's coat looks like a cuddly soft teddy bear. I don't think I could resist giving her hug if she walked by whilst wearing it..........except I probably would resist giving her a hug as I don't fancy being pinned to the floor by her security detail & then headlining News at Ten as 'that mad woman with a royal bear obsession' Grin

Going back to Kate's headbands & hair, in the past she's played about with her hairstyle in the very early stages of her pregnancies. Maybe she's done that to distract the media before her pregnancy becomes public knowledge.
I'm not saying that she's pregnant now, probably just coincidence.
Kate's just probably enjoying trying out different things & making her own mark.

Alwayscheerful · 06/01/2019 17:10

HM's lipstick looks like "walk of Shame" by Charlotte Tillbury perhaps one of the girls gave it to her for Christmas!

certainlymerry · 06/01/2019 17:10

Well I'm obviously in the minority, but i like the headbands!!

rosewater09 · 06/01/2019 17:14

I am on the fence about the headbands because I feel that in RL they would look insane on anyone else. However, they do make her look regal, and I like the idea that they give the illusion of a crown. Love that Kate is wearing a coat she has worn before.

LaurenOrdering · 06/01/2019 17:17

@Alwayscheerful
I can just imagine HMQ getting that as a Christmas present & it making her laugh.
The Royals have a tradition of giving each other daft/humorous or inexpensive presents at Christmas.
Didn't Harry one year get HMQ a shower cap with Life's A Bitch emblazoned on it?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 06/01/2019 17:28

The coat is nice but that's got to be the worst headband yet - those two bows on either side
Have only seen a glimpse of this one. Will investigate further...

Clionba · 06/01/2019 17:30

I agree with someone upthread (sorry, can't remember who Smile) who suggested that Meghan looks like Andie MacDowell! She really does, I've just seen Andie in something and there is a strong similarity.

Inniu · 06/01/2019 17:32

Oh dear what is Zara wearing at the polo in Australia. She can look great in dresses that give her an hourglass figure but that dress does nothing for her

mikado1 · 06/01/2019 17:33

Me Clionba ! Did you see those pre-Royal pics? V Andie. Someone said a few threads back that Kate is like something from Call the Midwife and that's exactly it! It's a uniform alright, saves the faffing if she's not into it. Personally, I love her a little 'looser' looking, hair thrown over to one side etc. She's beautiful though and can wear anything.

mikado1 · 06/01/2019 17:35

I am really nervous about starting a new job tomorrow after too long at home but am hoping to use the new paycheck to pick up some fashion forward items based on much much cheaper versions of items on this thread!

Paradyning · 06/01/2019 17:36

Eugenie had a headband in on Xmas day and it looked lovely. Kate just looks like a matron with them. Guess it's all about the overall styling.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 06/01/2019 17:37

I love the headbands. Even this one with bows.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 06/01/2019 17:40

Seen today's headband. Still like it.

Fireandfury1 · 06/01/2019 17:43

Is the blue hairband today? The coat makes her look pregnant!

Oh I see. The pic is of when she “recycled” the coat!

Here's a bit about the long dress/court dresses

SenecaFalls · 06/01/2019 18:17

Best wishes and good luck, mikado. These thread have inspired me, too.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/01/2019 18:17

thanks @Paradyning
I love Maxima's outfits in that link.
The long dresses look good with either a cocktail type hat or the big sweeping ones (very edwardian) but not keen on the medium sized hats; the proportions look a bit weird.
I wish we had court dress in the UK....
HMs stopped wearing the full regalia for the Opening of Parliament as well.

Bloominglovely · 06/01/2019 18:21

If she is trying to look ‘regal’ isn’t that a contradiction to William’s supposed (but I completely disbelieve) aim of modernizing the RF. Surely to goodness, they would do this by becoming more in tune with their ‘subjects’ than setting themselves even further apart by wearing headbands that give the appearance of crowns that their public would not wear??? Those two have no intention of modernizing anything, they are more than content in luxury others can’t even dream of while whining about the invasion of their privacy!

Clionba · 06/01/2019 18:27

I agree with you mikado1!
Good luck tomorrow, you'll be fine! Also, I bet you'll look great. What are you wearing?
Flowers

mikado1 · 06/01/2019 18:29

Thanks Clionba! Seneca, my dark nails give me a little edge anyway! ;) Wearing black knee length dress and boots. Eek!
