don't the royals invest their inheritance,? if they start to pay for some of their expenses no one would bat an eye on how much on clothes is spent.
I'm really baffled by this bit really , and maybe my understanding of who pays for what is wrong, but Prince Charles pays for his children and their family's expenses which is quiet very high. The sovereign Grant pays for their travel,security , royal engagements and any residential refurbishment. If thats true then thats too much really .

I’ve a theory about the headbands.

I remember reading that Diana’s hairdresser said when he was changing her hairstyle, it had to be cut in stages. A couple of cms one week and a couple a few weeks later. Otherwise it would cause headlines. I think Kate is doing similar to her hair. She has probably removed some of her extensions and is waitingfor her hair to regain its condition and in the meanwhile is using the headbands as a distraction because while everybody is talking about the headbands, they are not talking about her hair.

And there is another bonus in that they go with her rather frumpy Anne Boleyn style clothes too, clothes far more suited to somebody Camilla’s age than somebody not yet forty although they are clothes she can continue wearing into old age just as Anne has done.

Better view of the head band. I don’t mind it, she’s obviously got houseguests this weekend, so she can just brush her hair, plonk on the headband, job done. I don’t think Kate gives a monkeys aboutlooking fashionable; she looks smart, neat and appropriate.

Also it’s the same coat she wore to Norway early last year. Kate’s obviously had it recut. She & Mette Marit appear to be channelling Elsa & Anna!

Thé Queen looks lovely. I have this urge to stroke her coat it looks like soft cashmere.

There was a military parade in Spain. I love Letizia’s cape. Unfortunately there is no occasion in my life when I would need to wear one. Maybe I will start a trend and wear to the supermarket.

Anyone know why a lot of royals on the continent tend to wear long skirts / dresses during the day? I’ve seen it for weddings; which I like. I guess it’s just a formal occasion thing....

Lovely shade on the Queen, and I wonder if that fur on the cuffs is real? In response to an earlier comment about most of hers being vintage and not often seen I googled it, only to find her wearing it in public isn't all that unusual

The headbands fit differently when the hair is up in a bun - I actually like them on Princess Margaret!
If it was a pill box hat I’d be loving it but the width of it and the fact that there is no top/crown to it just doesn’t do it for me!

@curly - I’ll have to show that pic to my daughter and tell her it’s anna and Elsa all grown up. She’s a huge frozen fan and, at 5yrs old she will fall for it

Somehow I doubt that even with house guests, Kate is ever in a situation of a quick hair brush and plonk on hair band .

I love the blue colour on Kate, not sure about the headbands. They look ok from the front, but when you see them from the side (especially the really sticky uppy ones, like from Louis' christening) they do look a bit silly. Someone on another thread postulated that it may be to create the illusion of a crown, seeing as she is getting closer to becoming the Queen. There may be something in that?

The long dress thing is a hawk back to court dress. Just without the TRS. The Royal order blog gave an explanation of it I'll see if I can try and find it

@CurlyWurlyTwirly There was some controversy over Marthe-Louise. I think she's a bit woo and believes in spiritual healing/communicating with angels etc. And apparently a famous actor once hit on her (now ex) husband. Kevin Spacey maybe?
