Bellsandwhistle · 26/12/2018 21:02

So after Liberty and M and S advent calanders plus a few presents I’m gonna attempt a no beauty spend 2019. Will eventually need deodorant and shampoo I guess but will see how far I can get before spending....

^I mean no day moisturiser other than this Ordinary one, obvs!

woodhill · 09/02/2019 12:05

Used up shower gel and clarins face cream this week plus body shop facial protection . Tube cut on face wash now.

Peridot1 · 09/02/2019 14:18

Elspeth - it was £153.50. It’s ok. Hadn’t bought anything for ages. Won’t again for ages now as definitely don’t need any skincare or clothes. I sent £9.50 total in January on skincare. Only clothes I bought was outdoor gear which DH treated me to so doesn’t count!

Only thing I might need is mascara.

Inthetropics · 09/02/2019 20:18

Down to 197; used up a toothpaste.

Inthetropics · 09/02/2019 20:18

That should've been 297.

IloveJudgeJudy · 11/02/2019 09:37

Hello, fellow no spenders. I have a confession 😳. I fell prey to the siren call of Bluewater. DD asked me to take her to buy the Hourglass highlighter that I resisted a couple of weeks ago. She bought it -£38 - beautiful packaging. We walked around Bluewater and walked into TooFaced. They were doing buy the Better than Sex mascara and get the waterproof version free. I succumbed. It is my favourite mascara, but I haven't used up all the others- Benefit bad gal bang, Benefit They're real, a couple of l'Oreal. I'm going to bin the others as they're always disappointment.

Inthetropics · 11/02/2019 15:26

Down to 295.

Used up a deodorant and a body splash. Both had very little left, so it was easy and fast. I still have a few toiletries that i'll finish pretty soon but after that there will be tons of full size products so i'm preparing myself to be here for a long LONG time.

sweetheart · 11/02/2019 16:11

very pleased to report I did not buy anything this weekend - and my credit card is looking a lot healthier for it. Although I have to say I had the dullest weekend EVER!!!! I was off the booze and not allowed to spend anything so I basically sat at home channel surfing - there was nothing on!

Quite a few bits of my regular makeup is running low. I am resisting the temptation to buy them and planning to ask for vouchers for my birthday next month - having said that the brand I buy is doing BOGOHP.

I can't believe how many soaps some of you have - how is that even possible Grin. I hate soap - I find it so drying.

sweetheart · 11/02/2019 16:13

Oh also - i had a perfume that I had been given that I didn't really like but rather than chuck it I decided to use it as my work perfume". I finished that up this morning. Now onto all my lovely perfumes I got given for xmas. Grin

Inthetropics · 11/02/2019 16:35

sweetheart* Artisan soaps usually don't have sodium lauryl sulfates, parabens or phthalates, which is why i love them so much! There's also a vegan brand here that makes glicerin soap with natural extracta that i absolutely love and makes my skin look great!

Peridot1 · 11/02/2019 20:04

I don’t find soaps drying at all. In fact at this stage of winter my legs would normally be really dry and flaky but not since I switched to soap.

Am in Dublin for a week staying with my Dad and went to a store today that I like and would normally buy a few things. Not today. I did buy a deodorant- Jason brand that I can’t get near me easily back home. I’m sorted now for deodorant for a while as I did buy a couple of other ones in January using a Holland & Barrett voucher. They don’t last as long though.

I used up a sachet of Pro-collagen marine cream and tomorrow will finish a travel shower gel and probably a small cleanser.

Bellsandwhistle · 11/02/2019 20:48

I used up a body lotion today! It has lasted for ages amd so I committed to daily use until it was gone! Been weeks but done!! Now on to one of about 15/20 others that I seem to have accumulated from nowhere!! Mostly presents and hotel ones so looking forward to actually choosing one on the future when the pile has gone!

ElspethFlashman · 11/02/2019 23:02

Well done! I'm down a body butter and am making strides in another body lotion. I'm actually surprised how much of a Dent I'm making in stuff now that I'm not being a fickle little product butterfly but rather am actually concentrating on the same things. Stuff is going!

DH insisted I treat myself today as we had good news, so he basically said "enough of the frugality, buy a top or something to celebrate". So I bought a lovely half price jumper from Red Herring with free delivery that I'll probably return. 😂 Even with a green light I can't splurge anymore!

FiveShelties · 12/02/2019 09:43

I have finished a Body Moisturiser and had another 8 to select a new one from. It could be a long, long time before I need to buy any new ones.

Inthetropics · 12/02/2019 10:20

Whenever i'm on this thread i only get makeup and toiletties adds. Does it happen to everybody? Hmm

No spend beauty 2019
Inthetropics · 12/02/2019 10:21

*toiletries

Sarcelle · 12/02/2019 15:36

A few years ago I had 250 plus nail polishes and wore about 20 of them regularly, some occasionally, quite a lot never. I used to like looking at all the lovely colours, saddo that I am.) They were stored in the fridge (DH not pleased - top shelf in door taken up with my favourites), 3 storage boxes and a big toiletries bag.

About a year ago I had a sift of the dried up ones, and the ones I knew I would never wear and was left with 175 in fridge, one box and a bag. Just had another clearout - my friends are going to be happy. I was fairly ruthless and now down to 75. Still too many but fridge now cleared out and one bag and 1/2 box.

I want to eventually get to 5 colours and then no more. I dread to think of the money wasted. Most of them were good/designer makes and it was like I was obsessed for a while. I am never going to collect anything ever again.

Getting through my stash of other toiletries and make up is going to take some doing. It's awful but I hope it goes off!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 12/02/2019 15:41

Late to this thread but am working my way through the various places I've got toiletries (airing cupboard, bathroom shelves; bedroom shelves/drawers) and trying use up before buying any new (still find it hard to resist a bargain) and try only to buy essentials. So many unopened gift sets! Also find it hard not to buy new eyeshadows - and I've tons - already, but not bought any new eyeshadows this year! Or any other non-essentials

ElspethFlashman · 12/02/2019 17:02

Tbh I'd give the unopened gift sets to a charity shop. If you haven't delved into them by now they must not be that sexy.

And gift sets really are a pain in the arse. I know we're supposed to be massively grateful but I'm gonna be using Ted Baker products all of 2019 and I don't like the scent and would never bother with them otherwise. I shouldn't have opened the bloody thing!

Bellsandwhistle · 12/02/2019 17:53

sarcelle you’re making me feel better about the 50 odd nail polishes I have!! Well done on getting rid of so many. I too want to have max 5 on the go all year round so that’s summer amd winter colours!

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 12/02/2019 18:31

Sarcelle’s Nail polish obsession makes me feel better about my soaps! I suppose at least they won’t go off. But it has reminded me I do have some nail polishes that are really old. I know I have one that my mum gave me that she got in a gift with purchase. She passed away over two years ago but was in a nursing home for about six years before that and probably last bought anything over ten years ago! I rarely ever paint my own nails as I’m rubbish at it.

sweetheart · 13/02/2019 11:56

I am feeling most virtuous - on the back of this thread I went through my gel nail colour collection and realised I had at least 10 that I don't like and have never / will never use. So I put them all on Ebay. I have already sold 3 - making myself £15 Grin

Trying to ignore the fact that those 3 nail varnishes cost £35!

MinesaPinot · 13/02/2019 13:47

So I'm not doing so well on the clothes front but I have been resisting strongly buying any beauty/skincare other than replacements so am feeling quite virtuous Halo

Big news of the day is that I have hit the pan in my Benefit Hoola! However have a mini and two replacements in a couple of pallettes so am stocked up for a while yet.

I had to buy handcream at the weekend as I was away and had left mine behind (which considering I seem to have loads is no mean feat). I have brought the new one into work for my desk as I was using a Baylis and Harding one from a gift set - it was so highly perfumed and watery that it was useless so I binned it.

WellTidy · 13/02/2019 13:54

I am on a no spend beauty for 2019 too, and I haven't succumbed so far. Between Christmas and new year, I did an audit of everything I have and put it into categories eg shower gel, body moisturiser, soap, shampoo etc. I am ploughing through and ticking everything off, item by item, in each of my lists, as I use them up. My rule is not to open a new thing until I've used up the existing thing eg having only one shower gel at a time on the go. I am enjoying it! Getting much more satisfaction from finishing things than I did from having a huge variety.

Peridot1 · 13/02/2019 17:19

It is quite therapeutic finishing stuff up isn’t it!
