On another note, these threads have had an influence on me as a friend Instagrammed her brand new Barbour and my first thought was "How nouveau riche - the royals would NEVER"! Surely everyone knows a Barbour is always inherited?? Grin

Barbour is the most middle class brand ever, especially new barbour. High class would be wearing a shooting jacket so old and used the label has worn out

Spudlet · 25/12/2018 16:25

Lol, I have a Dickies wax jacket that is covered in patches and stitch marks where brambles and barbed wire have got me over the years. The joys of being a beater as opposed to a gun! I'm either extremely posh in my jacket choices or the lowliest of the low Grin

MissEliza · 25/12/2018 16:29

I love my Barbour jacket. I don't care what it makes me!

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2018 16:30

I should probably add that this friend is very into her "brands" and looks down on those who buy vintage etc!

She'll be showing off her Michael Kors watch next hashtagging #boydonegood

SenecaFalls · 25/12/2018 16:36

Well, to quote my mother, "Nouveau riche is better than no riche at all." Smile

ElspethFlashman · 25/12/2018 16:40

I have a Barbour bought new! Admittedly in the sales. I'm not crazy about it as it gets sweaty. BlushBlush

Really really good pockets though and I could wear it well into pregnancy as its generous in the middle.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 25/12/2018 16:50

Nothing wrong with being Nouveau riche, at least you have probably worked for it yourself .......bit like the Middleton’s actually.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/12/2018 16:53

I am going to be buying a house of Bruar ( as reccomended by @Queen) full length raincoat with cape & hood. I am so sick of getting soaked with this endless rain.
I am definitely not a country pursuits type person, despite living in the countryside, but they do make very practical clothes!

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2018 16:54

Hmm maybe nouveau riche was the wrong choice of words. I meant like footballers wives, not the Middletons!

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2018 16:55

Which part of France are you in @CurlyWurlyTwirly? I'm guessing not the south if it rains a lot?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/12/2018 17:00

Not the Cote D’Azur. South West, lovely and green, but currently lots of rain, as the temperature is very mild for the time of year.

SenecaFalls · 25/12/2018 17:09

I agree that the dripping with logoed fashion and accessories look is not a good one. On the other hand, if someone wants to give me a Chanel flap bag with the CC logo, I will happily accept.

evilharpy · 25/12/2018 17:09

I love both Kate's and Meghan's outfits. The red is gorgeous. I'd love to see Meghan's VB coat buttoned up, it looks like exactly the sort of thing I wear myself except about ten times the price! Also love the knee length boots and the wee VB handbag.

Not sure about either of the York girls. Beatrice's coat thing looks nice but maybe just not the right cut for her?

Love the dark green on Autumn.

PawneeParksDept · 25/12/2018 17:11

I can't remember which Aristo it was but she was going to an event and wearing something from a charity shop - total Princess Anne outlook

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/12/2018 17:17

I really liked Meghan’s outfit, it looked smart but practical. Was it a sweater dress?
Kate looked fabulous; she is totally owning that 1940s vibe
I really liked Autumn’s coat and the girls in coordinating Monsson coats.
Mt favourite element was Beatrice’s grey trilby. Also her more natural hair instead of being overly styled.
On the strength of Sophie’s trilby on Sunday and Beatrice’s today I’m going to buy one!

What a lovely photograph of them.

Clionba · 25/12/2018 17:26

I was about to ask the same, Curly, was Meghan wearing a sweater dress, or was it a sweater and skirt? If it's VB, I'm guessing she has it altered to fit her pregnancy. I really like her look.

Cornwall73 · 25/12/2018 17:59

I have only been able to see snippets of the church outing today but I must say that from what I saw Kate look utterly royal in that outfit. Not keen on the head band thing (would have been better as a pill box hat). She is a queen in the making.

orangecushion · 25/12/2018 18:02

Wills and Harry look well, old?

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2018 18:05

Kate is actually starting to make me think of Queen Alexandra, who perfected looking queenly by the time her husband ascended the throne. By then she'd been Princess of Wales for about 40 years!

I love these threads. Merry Christmas from a lurker :)

Can I ask a question about the queen's gloves? Kate and Megan's gloves both match their outfits, but the queen had black. Is that down to a formality or just preference?

TipseyTorvey · 25/12/2018 18:30

Sorry to derail but my best gift today was Meghan Forest Green scarf and gloves from DH!! (He's been listening for once) feel a bit DoS today (even if they were JL and not VB) 😂.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/12/2018 18:32

Well done @TipseyTorvey. Alas DP left all my presents at home so I'll have to wait until we get back!
