What do we think about accent nail manicures?

Are they nice? I've seen some that I think look pretty cool and others that just look weird. Need to redo my gels this week and contemplating taking the plunge! I know I'm massively behind the curve btw.

Also sort of shameless thread to show off any accent nail manicures you may be sporting please! Bonus points if they're Christmassy.

I quite like the effect where you have a mixture of nails in two coordinating colours with some glittery some plain, but I really don't like a single accent nail.

They're where you have one nail on each hand (normally Ruby Ring) in a complimentary or contrasting colour to the rest of the manicure. Or as Sledge says, you can mix it up a bit more.

So Sledge, how about a classic red with a couple of dark gold sparkly nails?

I don't like a single accent nail, it looks a bit odd. I don't mind so much if the colours are mixed up (so two red, three glittery for instance) but much prefer the glitter/art/accent to be on every nail.

Honestly, I think they look cheap and nasty, always.

A mix of red and gold could be good, there are lots of images out there of that combination.

I often have different colours on different nails, sometimes a nail pattern stamp, sometimes a single accent. The only thing my Nail lady and I disagree on is that she likes them to be matching so same finger same colour/pattern/highlight, and I like it more random.

I could not give a flying fig what other people thing, glitterprettyshinypatterned nails makes me HAPPY!

I do think the single accent ring finger has had its moment on the whole, but so much so that it's almost a classic! :o

And besides that, what's the worst that can happen?... you get them done and decide that on reflection it's not for you, go back next week and get them redone. in a boring pastel pink

If you are going to do it then I think it’s nicer if the accent nail isn’t too different. So for example with your dark ruby nails I think gold glitter is too jarring. I’d paint it the same as the other nails but go over it with a ruby/Black/gold glitter, for example.

Very tacky but if it makes you happy then do you really care? The whole thing seems utterly pointless though. If you like glittery nails then why not do all ten rather than two?

@LostInShoebiz I often have all glittery nails... It's more about wanting red and wanting gold and thinking maybe I can have both?!

Also I love the look of gold glittery nails but have a feeling they aren't very flattering so thought an accent nail may be the way forward.

Gut feeling is that I like them, they seem fun, but I had a sneaky suspicion that people would think they look tacky and rightly or wrongly, I care

Why can’t you have two colours on every nail? A diagonal pattern or something?

@ViragoKnows that sounds really nice but I do my own gel manicures and I'm not sure I'm skilled enough to pull that off!

Some people will think they’re tacky. Some will think they look amazing. Most won’t have any opinion.

I have red with gold ring fingers ATM. Hadn't occured to me it might look tacky, but it's Christmas, so I can't say I much care.

Changing them on Wednesday for a iridescent peacocky one if I can find it, as I have a night out then and it'll go with my dress.
