Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

I am in my late sixties, remember Queen Mary's funeral on telly and the Coronation. Grew up in a royalist family and read The Little Princesses and a biography of Princess Beatrice at a young age. Saw Anne and Charles once, but I was too young to be interested. Not really a royalist myself but admire the Queen for her lifetime of service. Hate all the tittle tattle in the gutter press. Like the frocks.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 14/12/2018 11:56

What a lovely, lovely photo of the Cambridges. They look such a happy family. I hope they are.

I agree that H&M's looks more like a thank you card but it's a nice picture nonetheless.

I'm early 30s and live near Cambridge. I've got to admit I'm less interested in the euro stuff, but love looking at pics of UK royals and especially love the jewellery bits. I don't mind having a royal family, the traditionalist in me likes it. The rational part of me would find it hard to argue for them though Grin

Long-time lurker, first-time poster (well, on these threads anyhoo...). I am mid-40s, NZ born and raised but living in Australia for many years. Grew up with a family obsessed with Britain and its history, so I love all the protocol and constitutional stuff. And the crowns and gowns.
I remember being allowed to stay up late and watch the wedding of C&D, and then the wide eyes and dropped jaws as the fairytale fell apart ("there were three of us in this marriage, so it was rather crowded" - best line eva). I also remember the "breath of fresh air" that was Kate as PW's middle-class girlfriend for all those years.
Rather love today's new Cambridge Christmas photo also - George in his gumboots, Charlotte with Granny Di's tucked-in chin pose. Not sure Wills needs those crispy new jeans though WinkConfused.
Have also been somewhat enthralled by the whole Harry and Meg love story - good luck and best wishes to them both.
I work in the media though, and H&M shattered a few dreams on their recent whirlwind day trip to Melbourne - am told it all got rushed and a bit dismissive towards the end. Understandable, I am sure, but they tumbled off a pedestal or two that day GrinWink.

The Cambridge’s Christmas card is gorgeous. Love the dark blue theme. Prince Louis looks like Kate’s side. As does George. Adorable Charlotte is very definitely a Windsor.

H&M have well and truly fallen off the pedestal - if they were ever on it.

UrsulaPandress · 14/12/2018 12:36

I'm very late 50s, live in the North West and am probably an inbuilt Royalist. Saw the Queen driving through North Wales during the Silver Jubilee tour - she was in pink. Missed C&Ds wedding as I was backpacking round the South of France. We raised a glass of champagne sitting on a big rock in Agay. Watched it on someone's telly when I started work in London - did they release a video of it?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/12/2018 12:36

Early 60's, English and living in the east midlands here - and another who absolutely loves the Cambridge Christmas card Smile

I had the pleasure of meeting Kate with George and Charlotte on a Norfolk beach, and met Anne years ago near Gatcombe - I know one of her neighbours so often see her driving by, but only met her once)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/12/2018 12:39

Lovely photo of the Cambridges. I also thought Charlotte had a look of Diana with the gaze. As she is getting older, she is looking less Hanoverian and more Spencer.
Louis is just gorgeous; he looks like the Apple of Kate’s eye.

I am underwhelmed by the Sussexes card. I guess they were trying to go low key. It would be nice to see them doing something different, a nice tweedy walk in the countryside.

AhoyDelBoy · 14/12/2018 12:42

Puzzledandpissedoff 😱 lucky you, did you say hello?

AhoyDelBoy · 14/12/2018 12:43

I’m not sure I can imagine Meghan doing the ‘tweedy walk in the countryside’ thing Curly although I’d love to see it!

InsomniacAnonymous · 14/12/2018 12:44

With regard to the card of the Sussexes, I don't see the point of sending a card in which you've got your backs to the camera. It's very odd.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/12/2018 12:47

Danish Royals having some kind of festive event. I thought Queen Margarethe was on her own for a moment as the others were wearing such nondescript colours.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/12/2018 12:49

Meghan is definitely a very urban duchess. I just cannot see her doing any country pursuits, apart from watching the polo. I guess they spent part of the summer at Balmoral. I think over the years, it will be interesting to see her gain that Royal veneer. They’ve all done it. Sophie, Camilla, Kate.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/12/2018 12:51

AhoyDelBoy yes, the family child I had with me was paddling in the sea with Charlotte and George ... I didn't even realise who they were until they ran back to mum and another chap who who was with them (a detective I maybe?)

It was a bit embarrassing because "my" child thought she'd made some new friends and went tottering over to join them. I dashed over to apologise and get her back, but they couldn't have been nicer. I made some remark to Kate about just how lovely her kids are and finished up having quite a chat with her Smile

user1457017537 · 14/12/2018 12:54

I think MM is pretty bored already and is far more comfortable in the business of show than cutting ribbons and other royal duties.
She was in her element at the Fadhion Awards but for every glamorous event there are lots of mind numbingly boring ones.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/12/2018 12:55

Oh you must spill the beans about the chat @puzzledandpissedoff !

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/12/2018 12:55

Hard not to gush about the Cambridges' card, (luscious Louis!).

AhoyDelBoy · 14/12/2018 12:58

Puzzledandpissedoff wow you kept that quiet! (Unless I missed reading it on an earlier thread) I’m jealous. It must be weird being the DoC - meeting people while you’re out and about like they were and you know they know who you are but you’re just chatting normally.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 14/12/2018 13:01

Mid 50s. South East. No DC.

First royal memory is the Duke of Windsor's body being returned to the UK, seeing it being brought off the plane. Or have I imagined that?

I remember Diana's death vividly as I was still awake when the first news of the accident came through and they were saying she was seriously injured at that point. I remember thinking, God, can you imagine how she'd be if she was disabled...

A friend rang me first thing to tell me she'd died and, as much as I wasn't much of a fan, I spontaneously burst into tears. I used to walk past Buck House every day en route to/from work and the atmosphere in those days and weeks was extraordinary.

I'm hating the way the press have pilloried Meghan, whether or not it's true.

Kate doesn't put a foot wrong does she? I reckon she's one of the few royal women who even Henry VIII couldn't have found reason to execute.

Anyway, my thing is tiaras which is how I ended up on the Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor site a few years ago. Loving the Euro-Royals and Max is my spirit animal. I used to run a BB and we had a Dutch guest on the day of the inauguration. She gave me a souvenir tin of biscuits she'd brought with her and five years on, I still use it to store tea lights. I'm sure Max would be thrilled to know ha ha.

Never met a royal and never even seen one in the flesh - oh, I glimpsed Felipe & Leti when they shot past me in a car and damn nearly made me miss a train.

AhoyDelBoy · 14/12/2018 13:01

That must have been their Royal protection officer. I wonder if the DC wonder why they always have someone with them like that although I guess they know they aren’t ‘normal’ children 🤷🏼‍♀️

It really must have been something else.

I agree tbh.

Curly I know I'm a disappointment but there's honestly not much to tell. I have friends in the area so we chatted about local matters (she's very well informed and aware) and a bit about kids' interests in general

She was absolutely lovely though; exquisite manners (as had the kids), beautifully spoken though not "plummy" and even more beautiful in RL than her pics suggest - overall just a normal, well bred woman in far from normal circumstances

Oh, and she at least carries money. I bought all three kids an ice cream, which she tried to insist on paying for (I refused of course Wink)
