Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

Piers is probably doing Meghan a favour harping on about how she used him if there's one thing most Brit's agree on it's that Piers Morgan is a arsehole!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure he has the same reputation in the USA as here so Meghan probably got quite a shock when she realised what a slimy weasel he actually is!

As for her dad it seems obvious he is putting money before Meghan how people can think she's wrong to cut contact I just don't understand.

LaurenDisorderAtChristmas · 16/12/2018 22:07

I think it needs to be spelled out to Thomas Markle how to behave i.e. one does not go to the press & spill the family woes & dirt like Samantha does. Then Meghan may feel that she is able to trust her father again.
But then again maybe it has been spelt out but no one listened.

SenecaFalls · 16/12/2018 22:15

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure he has the same reputation in the USA as here

When he was on CNN for a while here, he was probably best known for his gun control stance that resonated especially with those of us, like me (and Meghan, I assume), who support greater restrictions on guns so I think there may, in fact, be a difference in how he is perceived in the US.

Bloominglovely · 16/12/2018 22:17

I can never see Kate becoming a powerful woman in her own right. Not in a million years. Nor, I suspect, does she want to be anymore than William’s wife. But her clothes will get better and she will look similar in twenty years time, though as Charlotte’s hair grows longer, Kate’s will get shorter as it is rare to see a mum with longer hair than her daughter.

Piers Morgan is beyond idiotic.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 16/12/2018 22:23

Best wishes for your son Year

I can’t blame Meghan for distancing herself from her family. They don’t have her best interests at heart.

frugalkitty · 16/12/2018 22:27

Year I'm sorry that your son is so poorly Flowers

Moononthehill28 · 16/12/2018 22:48

I’m surprised Piers hasn’t got Samantha on again too!! It’s such a mess it’s beyond understanding. He’s just making such a prize fool of himself. (Both Piers and the Markle man).

Llareggub · 16/12/2018 23:18

I've got a few male friends who do the standing up thing.

Ive never met any of the royals, although my father has a few times. He was, for a year, in public office and did approximately three engagements a day during that time. It was exhausting, although the role came with a house and staff. The housekeeper used to ring upstairs and say "{Title} do you want chips, boy" which made us chuckle. It was handy having food provided but we all missed home cooked food (well our own) and were glad to get back to reality and the end of his office. Anyway, my point was going to be that he was 50 or so when he did this and he was exhausted by the end of the year. The poor Queen has been doing this forever.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/12/2018 01:46

I read an interesting Blind.
The alliterate celebrity who used to be an actress would love nothing more than to come to the States for the rest of her pregnancy. I told you before she was really pushing for a move to Canada and away from everything and she is telling friends there that she is hopeful she can move there. She sees no reason to stay overseas. Meghan Markle

This kind of dovetails with what I have always thought that Meghan & Harry would want to escape the limelight and live overseas. I thought Africa because Earl Spencer raised his children in SAfrica.
However, Harry being Commonwealth youth Ambassador; of course Canada is still in the Commonwealth. I would really not be surprised if they even manage to spend big chunks of time over there. I do not blame her for being homesick.
I bet after all the speculation of where they spent their honeymoon, they did actually go to Canada.
Harry loves Meghan and if moving overseas in future years would make her happy, I think he would do it for her. (Given that she has done it for him iyswim)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/12/2018 01:52

Also moving to Frogmore means that Harry is less under William’s influence and being right next door to Windsor means that he will have the Queen’s ear, to promote his (their) own plans. We know the Queen is extremely fond of the Commonwealth.
Isolating Harry from his usual Windsor circle, mixing with the Soho House crowd at Great Tew is brilliant in its execution.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/12/2018 01:53

*Kensington Palace circle

IdaBWells · 17/12/2018 02:05

We know nothing about them and it definitely wouldn't make sense to say he was being "isolated from his usual Windsor circle" by moving to Windsor!? The only information we get is from newspapers, mostly tabloids and it is all very superficial. They are keeping a low profile and I don't blame them.

IdaBWells · 17/12/2018 02:06

X-posted with that Curly!

Paradyning · 17/12/2018 06:35

Don't think less of me, but I actually like Piers. He speaks sense on many issues so I am not necessarily immediately dismissive of his MM stance.
yes, he has the ego of many others in the business and it may not be a wise editing move having TM on the show but i do like him.

Clionba · 17/12/2018 06:51

Sometimes you need people like Piers Morgan. He's been very outspoken about gun crime in the US and he really puts politicians and others on the spot in that show. I know he feels negative about Meghan, but he's not created the story himself. It's not a good situation with Thomas Markle, though, and won't get better any time soon.

Paradyning · 17/12/2018 06:57

I agree Clionba.
For those who've not already see there's a look back at the year's wedding dresses here:

I'd forgotten how lovely Alessandra de Osma's was.

Gingerivy · 17/12/2018 07:03

Aside from the fact that I believe she needs to live in the UK until she has achieved her citizenship (as I'm sure I've read something saying she is taking the same route to citizenship as everyone else). Not to mention they cannot control the press quite as much in the US or Canada as they can here. I could see them looking at moving to Canada eventually, but I'd be surprised if it's in the next 5 years. I suspect they will waive the requirement that she not be out of the country more than 270 days over 3 years, if needed, due to royal business, but I suspect there'd be some issues if they allowed her to go through the process without waiting the required period of time. There's been a few articles stating she will be following the normal route to citizenship that everyone else follows.

Clionba · 17/12/2018 07:08

They're not going to live in Canada or anywhere else. They have roles and status here and will continue to develop them. All their work is high profile, big projects. They want to make a difference and be on the world stage. They'll stay here. She's much tougher than people give her credit for.

Gingerivy · 17/12/2018 07:14

Good grief, I lost a chunk of the sentence there.

"Aside from the fact that I believe she needs to live in the UK until she has achieved her citizenship (as I'm sure I've read something saying she is taking the same route to citizenship as everyone else), I would think that they would have to do the childbirth thing in the UK - wasn't there a discussion that the monarch technically has "custody" of royal children? Not to mention they cannot control the press quite as much in the US or Canada as they can here."

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 17/12/2018 08:20

I would also be surprised if they moved abroad within the next decade at least. I also don't think Harry is as dismissive of his royal status as some people think. It's nice to have extended breaks and feel a bit more normal, but bringing up his children out of the royal circle completely? I think they all like being royal deep down (not a criticism, I suspect I'd like it too!)

CrookedMe · 17/12/2018 08:36

Are they taking the piss with 'alliterate'???

Clionba · 17/12/2018 08:52

Harry is Diana's son. Very soon he'll be the son of a monarch, and the brother of the next one. Harry and Meghan are a high profile, glamorous couple. They're like the Clooneys or the Obamas with the extra cachet of royalty. They've already shown that they want to make a difference and do good work. It'll be an interesting few years.

user1457017537 · 17/12/2018 09:18

I don’t think they will ever move abroad either. Why would they with the lifestyle provided by the taxpayers for being born into the Royal family. They would have to fund their own accommodation, office staff, security and travel. It’s not going to happen they love being Royal.

With regard to Thomas Markle I fail to see that what he did was so offensive. The Royals use their position for publicity all the time. So he did a photo shoot it wasn’t terribly offensive to MM. The sister, Samantha, on the other hand is plain nasty.

user1457017537 · 17/12/2018 09:19

By the way, was Thomas Markle on with Piers this morning?

BlingLoving · 17/12/2018 09:25

I think they'd be crazy NOT to move abroad eventually. Not now, but in due course, their role within the royal family will have become less central as George, Charlotte and Louis grow up. Also, they're clearly trying to establish their own way of doing things and eventually what seems like a big deal now will become the new normal in terms of their approach.

I fully expect them to eventually move, possibly to the US or Canada, where they will live like "regular" celebrities and away from the constant craziness of the royal family. It will cause some people to froth at the mouth, but eventually it will become normal and their lives will be spent only occasionally having to return to the traditional royal fold. Their children will be brought up as children of other celebrities and will quite fade away until either a child or grandchild will pop up as a movie star or something with a bit of extra cachet for being vaguely linked to British royal family.

As for Thomas Markle - the man is batshit crazy. I find it incomprehensible that he doesn't understand how going on air and doing interviews constantly is not going to encourage Meghan to return any of his 5000 text messages.
