Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

For a laugh, here is a DM article about curtseying. Shared on the strength of the mockup of 'how Megan Markle might look curtseying', which is... quite something Confused

YearOfYouRemember I'm sorry to read about your son Flowers.

In episode 2 of the The Crown doesn't Margaret bow to HMQ when the latter leaves the room where their father is laying deceased in his bed?

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/12/2018 16:35

Wow, that photo is indeed something!

And I've finally figured out why the duchesses are feuding - it has to be because Kate feels Meghan doesn't curtsy to her enough!

(I fully expect this to be the story in tomorrow's Mail...)

Wow these threads are moving fast 😄 Just been catching up on the Royal Christmas cards. Louis is the head off Kate's dad, and Charlotte has a real look of Diana in that photo - first time I've really been able to see a resemblance.

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/12/2018 16:41

I thought Charlotte had a look of William and Diana too. George is all
Middleton and Louis has the most defined eyebrows I've ever seen on a baby!

Harry does not have to bow to William. Meghan does not have to curtsy to Kate. The popular press has this wrong and they continue to say it over and over. They do not bow and curtsy to people of the same rank so HRHs do not bow and curtsy to each other. Show me one picture of that happening except this: sometimes Kate has bobbed in the general direction of the DoE but she does not have to; it is just a sign of respect.

The rules of precedence are not about who bows to whom; they are about how and in what order people enter a room, where they sit, etc.

did Princess Margaret curtsey to the Queen?

She did at her wedding.

sheikhandbake · 16/12/2018 16:49

Long time lurker on this thread and absolutely love it!

I’m mid 30s and from UK but currently live in the Middle East with a 6 month old so use feeding time as an opportunity to catch up on this thread. Smile

Although not a Royal (obvs) I really admire Carole Middleton and how she built a business from scratch once she returned from her ME posting - I need to take inspiration from her! Grin

I’ve never met any of the RF personally but have a friend who used to bump into DoC in Waitrose in Anglesey from time to time and said she was lovely.

I love all the style and would love to see more of Rania and maybe Princess Haya??

Clionba · 16/12/2018 16:49

They don't bow and curtsey to each other. Out of courtesy they may do so to HM, or the D of E at official events. The status issue is more about precedence ie who goes before who, who sits where.

SenecaFalls · 16/12/2018 16:54

Princess Margaret curtsies to the Queen.

YearOfYouRemember sorry to hear your DS is ill. Wishing you both all the best. Flowers

katekat383 · 16/12/2018 17:08

PH and MM most certainly WILL have to bow or curtesy to William and Kate when he is king and she is the king’s wife. They will luuuurve that!

SenecaFalls · 16/12/2018 17:20

Well if William does indeed modernize the monarchy, maybe that will be the first thing he gets rid of.

katekat383 · 16/12/2018 17:20

Unlikely!😆

katekat383 · 16/12/2018 17:22

Americans tend not to “get” British conventions particularly those pertaining to Royalty.

Oh but they DO curtsey to each other in private @Clionba

They curtsey at the first point they see the person that day and then not again

Thus Zara Phillips as was, was seen curtseying to the Queen when she stopped her car on a field and rolled down her window to speak to her

This was also why when Meghan curtseyed on Christmas Day last year, several members of the Royal Family DIDN'T as they already had earlier that day

Famously neither Meghan or Kate curtsey's to Bea or Eug if with their Duke's but do have to if they encounter them solo. They WILL have to curtsey to Kate possibly when she is Princess Of Wales and definitely when she is Queen Consort. IIRC. They will never have to curtsy to Meghan. I imagine they avoid circumstances in which they curtsey to B and E

Clionba · 16/12/2018 17:26

They curtsey to the Queen, @PawneeParks, not each other.

katekat383 · 16/12/2018 17:28

Perhaps the people doing the makeup of the Cambridge children, prior to the “staged” shot, were a tad enthusiastic when working on the eyebrows of Prince Louis!!

(Somebody earlier on the thread reckoned the children were in makeup.)

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/12/2018 17:30

Americans tend not to “get” British conventions particularly those pertaining to Royalty.

If that's referring to @SenecaFalls then it's a tad unjust. When it comes to the royal family, she seems more knowledgeable than most Brits!

@PawneeParksDept

Yes, that was my understanding too. The Mail’s etiquette guy will have written screeds on this very subject.

LaurenDisorderAtChristmas · 16/12/2018 17:34

Charlotte decided to give Louis a make over with her felt tip. Luckily Kate caught her just after the eyebrows but didn't have time to wash it off Louis' face!

Clionba · 16/12/2018 17:34

The Cambridge children wearing make up for the photograph!! That made me laugh so much! GrinGrin

Yep. It was mentioned by a poster on Mumsnet but actually it may have been on an AIBU thread which was all about the RF Christmas cards. I misremembered.

PawneeParksDept · 16/12/2018 17:42

Then why the copious articles about who curtseys to who?

For example Anne basically curtseys to no one but The Queen (technically Charles, Philip)

The same is not true for the other female royals
