Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

Well Camilla hasn't been.with her grandchildren ever on Christmas day. I think they were all born since her Marriage to PC. I have read she hotfoots it down to Ray Mill house on boxing day. I don't see anyone hanging around at Sandringham beyond Xmas day. However the Queen Apparently stays till February to commemorate the death of her father.

Paradyning · 15/12/2018 22:46

Remember the LOOK between Camilla and Kate when HM appeared unsteady

Which look when @PawneeParksDept

PawneeParksDept · 15/12/2018 22:47

Do you remember Curly not sure which thread, armistice Day?

The Queen was on the balcony between Kate and Camilla and they gave each other a look that basically showed they were both really concerned for her and it got photographed.

It was talked about on thread at the time

Paradyning · 15/12/2018 22:51

The 'blinds' were saying PP actually was being treated for prostate cancer when he had his 'hip' done in May. I know we discussed this at the time but it would tie in with a very short recover time that he demonstrated.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 22:57

Ok, I found what I think is the photo.
I just remember gushing about Kate’s jacket.
Do you know, I think once HM goes, I think people will actually want Camilla as Queen. We are used to having a Matriarch in the RF, and I think; especially in recent years, Camilla has acquitted herself exceptionally well. I have lived the shots of her with random reindeer, donkeys and children at Clarence House. She comes across as a very caring person.

I don’t think anyone would be surprised if he had cancer. And I don’t mean it horribly; just given his age and his frequent hospital stays. Which year did he spend Christmas Day in hospital and all the grandchildren went to visit him after lunch.

There was apparently an official announcement / confirmation in the DM that the Cambs and Sussexes would be on the Sandringham Estate at Christmas. I wonder if it means W&K at Anmer and Harry & Meghan at the Big House?

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/12/2018 23:04

I liked that jacket of Kate's until another poster pointed out that she looked like she'd joined the Sally Army...

PP was in hospital over Xmas in 2011.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 23:11

Louis is wearing all of a George’s hand me downs. I forgot what an adorable baby and toddler he was. Kate has produced some beautiful children.

Yes that is the photo what are they trying to say with their eyes other than :

"Did YOU realise she'd got so frail? fuck no, I take it this is a shock to you also"

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/12/2018 23:25

I have read (Camilla) hotfoots it down to Ray Mill house on boxing day

I believe, at least for the last couple of years, she's spent Christmas Eve at Sandringham and then left for Raymill after the Queen's Speech on "the day" ...

IdaBWells · 15/12/2018 23:34

CurlyWurlyTwirly I like your point about the British public being comfy with a royal matriarch. I have been wondering the very same thing - that the RF was dominated in the 20th century by some very strong and powerful women, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and then our current Queen who is the longest reigning British monarch ever and was schooled by the two Queens before her. We know we are to have three Kings (unless Republicanism truly takes hold) after QE II. Will we crave a female figure? There are so few in such a unique powerful role such as the Queen who is always the most important person in the room, but female.

Catherine gives the impression that she will become a powerful figure in her own right in middle age and beyond. She is very solid psychologically and she seems to be slowly gaining more and more confidence. She and her parents are the power behind the throne as they will be so influential on the next royal generation.

LaurenDisorderAtChristmas · 15/12/2018 23:37

In that balcony photo that Curly posted, Kate reminds me of Mary Poppins & Camilla as Mrs Banks Smile

Butterymuffins or Butteryparsnips? Wink the muffins I can do but parsnips Envy

MartaHallard · 16/12/2018 00:12

the RF was dominated in the 20th century by some very strong and powerful women

Not to mention the 19th century....

the Queen who is always the most important person in the room....

If you follow the old fashioned rules of etiquette, the Queen is the most important person in the world. A gentleman defers to a lady. A younger person defers to an older one. A person of junior rank or status defers to the senior person. No-one on the planet outranks HMQ!

SenecaFalls · 16/12/2018 00:21

I've enjoyed reading a little bit about other posters. I'm American from the Deep South. I've been interested in British history, and by extension the RF, since I was a child. I have also been interested in fashion most of my life, sparked in part by having a well-dressed mother and grandmother. So this thread is a great combination of those two interests.

One of the most transformative experiences of my life was being able to study history at a university in the UK. During that time while visiting friends at another university, I met Prince Charles at a party. He and I are the same age, which I think makes me the oldest person on this thread. Xmas Smile

Been away as here at DHs annual work thing. I've been driven crazy this week with travel plans changing way too much for my liking. Just got back from a dinner, took my shoes off and am sipping a peppermint tea before bed. Sitting in the dark with my 3DC sleeping because the hotel messed up (it was really the coordinator but she doesn't want to admit it!)

So I'm late 30s with 3DC. Live in the NYC area now. My brother used to always be in the background of events and it became a game in the family to see who could find him. My aunt was really good at it and one year made a scrapbook for my mother. I work in finance plus have my own business in the UK and the only reason for following the DofC is that the little sister of my good friend from school went to school in the same year as DofC for a short while. When I had DS it was about the same time as she had her 1st and I had to go back to work after 8 weeks. When she did the press pictures so soon after birth and looked so amazing I took the attitude that if she could do it so could I (I was very wobbly about going back to work).

In the past couple of years I've really struggled to find work appropriate clothing and DofC wears some great clothing which is perfect for work. I don't buy a lot but what I do buy is better quality. The DofC wears a lot of reasonably priced well made clothing which lasts.

As I shared on a previous post I grew up with staff and yes my family have a title. We weren't a monied family, my father was the one who turned things around. Having grown up in that environment I love the freedom I have now. Nothing worse than having to be out of bed and ready for the day by 8am because that's when staff start their day when you are a teen. I do think the RF are going to have a very hard time staying relevant. I don't expect it to survive PC and PW will be the one who either kills it or brings it back.

BTW, I always thought it was hilarious that there was talk of PW living on base in Anglesey. First it's a nasty base but more importantly they weren't married and had they made an exception all hell would have broken loose.

Christmas cards. They all look cheesy. Our family Christmas cards look cheesy too. It's hard for them not to be. You are putting yourself on a card which you expect someone will display in their home. What makes you think they need to see your face!?! I put the DC on our cards but dressed up, this year they were the 3 wise (wo)men. Previously they have been angels, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. When our first was small and a single she was a Christmas pudding! Bizarre but it's become a tradition now on the 7th year. I'm thinking of doing nutcrackers for next year but I want to save that one for when they are bigger.

Bloominglovely · 16/12/2018 00:40

I must be a terrible mother because I think sending the kids off to eat with their nannies leaving me to eat a grown up dinner, having conversations without being interrupted and enjoy some good wine without trying to hush bored kids, sounds blissful. It’s only for a few hours, it isn’t as if dinner is eight hours long!!!!

MartaHallard · 16/12/2018 01:14

Yes, if adults, some of them very elderly, and small children all try to have a big sit down meal together, then probably no-one will enjoy it very much.

7salmonswimming · 16/12/2018 02:20

On Christmas arrangements, I think you don’t get given somewhere like Anmer Hall, as future King & Queen, with three small children and both so fully in training for their future roles, and spend Christmas at Ma & Pa Middleton.

Without being outrageous, the house is big enough for the future King & Queen to host, so they can fulfil their royal duties. They didn’t get given somewhere in Gloucestershire (for example) for this reason - their duty will and should come first. Christmas will always be at Sandringham. Boxing Day and whatever else may well be in Bucks/Herts or wherever KM’s parents live.

Also, K&W are in a different stage in their lives now. They’re not newly weds, they’re not finding their feet anymore - H&M have seen to that. They’re on their way, and there are expectations.

I don’t think Christmas Day itself, with church in the morning etc, was ever going to be anywhere else.

Princess Marie of Denmark is in Paris at the opening of a jewellery boutique which made her tiara. She is in Michael Kors

All dresses from the exhibition of the Queen’s dresses in 2017 have been photographed for the Royal Collection
They are gorgeous and you get to see the colours for the first time, and all the detail; because they were only ever photographed in black and white till well into the 1960s

Oops, sorry, @CurlyWurlyTwirly obvs Wink

Moononthehill28 · 16/12/2018 08:06

I didn’t notice the Look at the time. I did think HM looked very frail at the Remembrance Service.
Interesting comments about all the strong women in the RF. It had not occurred to me that we will have three Kings in a row after the Queen dies. Sobering thought.
Life will seem so very different without her on the throne. Agree too that William will make or break the Monarchy. I suspect a lot of things will change and modernise under his reign.
