Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

Was thinking about this thread in he early hours when I was up with ds2. Specifically posters saying their view of William as entitled/arrogant. I personally don't get that at all, though interesting that others do.

One thing I think is clear though is what a good father he is, especially with George. They seem to have a close bond.

And that led me to remember that hilarious video where William was being hands on with George on the BP balcony, and got down to George's level to speak to him, only for HMQ to tell him to get up sharpish Grin. Makes me smile every time.

Camilla knows what clothes work well for her. She has a great sense of colour and style.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/12/2018 08:30

I suspect the monarchy under William will have more of a Scandinavian flavour. As pp have said, Kate is psychologically sound, no messed up family background.
Amazing as Diana was, she was totally messed up. And let’s be honest, much as we revere the Queen, she was not a hands on parent; so it has taken till Charles 2nd marriage to have anything approaching a healthy relationship

Moononthehill28 · 16/12/2018 08:36

Itsnice - I agree with you. I don’t get the impression William is at all spoilt and entitled. He strikes me as someone who thinks deeply and carefully , more naturally guarded and introverted than Harry. He is clearly a devoted father and husband. He adores the Queen and seems to have a good relationship with Charles on the whole. He’s accepted Camilla with grace. Considering the diffiyof his early life, he’s turned out extremely well.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/12/2018 08:37

On that Instagram link which @parker put up; I just loved the interior of Clarence House
The pale blue drawing room is gorgeous.
I think the reign of Charles III will be known for its good taste.

Moononthehill28 · 16/12/2018 08:38

I don’t relish the prospect of Charles as King. However I look forward with innterest to seeing what William will do with the role.

AhoyDelBoy · 16/12/2018 08:41

I agree %110 with what you say about William Moon

Spudlet · 16/12/2018 08:52

I think that little video on the balcony is quite telling. HMQ puts her duty before everything - she doesn't see William as a father first at that moment, he's there to work and should be standing up. William on the other hand puts his little boy first - he wants him to see everything and enjoy it, and that's the priority for him.

If he keeps that order of priorities, things will certainly change as he moves closer to the throne.

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/12/2018 08:54

Yes I think it will @Spudlet, and that's no bad thing.

I hope so too. They seem to be striking a good balance at the moment between duty and parenthood. I kind of see HMQs point that if W had stated crouching for too long he risked looking like someone using his privilege for a free air show rather than seeing it as an opportunity to see 'his' people, but there's a balance, and by modern standards I'm afraid HMQ did not find it - she tipped way too far the other way (I know, different times, etc).

One of the most depressing moments on The Crown is when Charles comes home from school and QE is watching for his arrival out the window and then she sits back down at her desk whilst downstairs he leaps into the Nanny's Arms.

Fiction of course, but one has the uncomfortable feeling it's accurate.

Charles was always very close to the staff who were around him growing up. I suppose they raised him as much as anyone. There was a PPO who was suddenly fired by Philip because he had taught Charles to drive and Charles had been seen driving without a seat belt. Charles apparently was utterly distraught as he had been with him forever.

And The Crown made a big point of all that. In the harrowing Gordenstoun episode, the PPO shot daggers at Philip throughout, though I don't know what the characters name was and if it was meant to be one actual person or an amalgam of people.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 16/12/2018 09:28

Yes I remember that Elspeth.

Would be Interesting to know how much is fact v fiction.

PawneeParksDept · 16/12/2018 09:30

@CoverYourEarsTeam

Right on both counts! I brought up the photo and Curly reposted it

Yes "shit, Destiny is upon us" is the EXACT impression

missclimpson · 16/12/2018 09:33

I have said it before but I think the Queen was completely typical of a parent from the aristocracy of the time. I just don't think you can judge her by contemporary middle-class standards. She also had a demanding role at a very young age and a huge sense of duty.

Rhubarbisevil · 16/12/2018 09:36

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before, but I really do not like that Christmas card sent out by the Sussexes (it’s on my mantelpiece, obvs)

beanaseireann · 16/12/2018 09:44

CurlyWurlyTwirly
I love that photo of QE, Camilla and Kate on the balcony.
I'd love to know what's passing between Camilla and Kate.
QE looks c r a n k y, whatever has happened.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 16/12/2018 09:47

If we had to go somewhere like that with my gran at that age, she’d have said I’d rather be at home with a gin & tonic. Maybe the same!

GrumbleBumble · 16/12/2018 09:54

Does anyone know if the cards are just Christmas cards or whether they are used for the whole year when they send thank.yous? If that is the case it's totally understandable to not use a Christmassy image, but you would think they could manage a general card and a Christmas one. Other RFs obviously do.

Ilovedotcotton · 16/12/2018 10:04

@Want2bSupermum

Do you mind my asking how long your family has had a title for? Is it a hereditary title?

PawneeParksDept · 16/12/2018 10:10

But K and W DID live on Anglesey prior to engagement Confused

She was frequently seen in the Tesco and the good old Fail showed pics of some kind of converted barn with staff quarters for the PPOs they lived in not on base

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/12/2018 10:18

interior of Anglesey house
A bit conservative, but the views are amazing.
Article from DM about their time in Anglesey
I think they will have happy memories of Anglesey, much as HM and Prince Phillip have of Malta.

Nb, i am pretty sure Princess Anne and Prince Charles actually lived there. I think the Queen went for long visits and left Charles & Anne with their grandparents.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/12/2018 10:23

I forgot, they took George back to Anglesey, when he was new born. Carol babysat and then they took on William’s old nanny Jesse web as a temporary nanny, till they were installed in Anmer, and Maria Borallo was taken on just before the NZ trip in 2014.

I remember this photo of Kate just after she had George. I thought she looked utterly beautiful.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/12/2018 10:23

So Harry won't be at the Boxing Day shoot because Meghan doesn't like bloodsports. All fine but why does this even get get announced?

No one needs to know and it just adds grist to the haters mill.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/12/2018 10:24

I definitely put an apostrophe after haters!
