Link to previous thread.

And once again, let's keep this good-spirited. Spiteful comments are about as welcome as Fergie at Prince Philip's birthday party!

@Curly - in that picture of the queen coming out of the Goring, she looks fab (agree, the suit is excellent), but you can see her age in her hands. Maybe because she wears gloves a lot I don't usually notice but her hands are definitely "old" and slightly swollen looking. I hate thinking of her as on old lady!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/12/2018 11:29

@blingloving
You’re right they are old lady hands. Although at least no arthritis or rheumatism.
I guess we think of the queen as indestructible. I wasn’t that bothered about the Queen Mother, but I will be devastated when «London Bridge is Down»

Me too. Philip as well actually - although partly because if he goes I am not sure she'll remain herself for too much longer after. Not after all this time together with him as her "Rock" (notwithstanding any rumours re behaviour, affairs etc).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/12/2018 11:44

Meghan has an official engagement lined up next week.
Retirement home for people who were in the entertainment industry.

Just an aside, Meghan did Theatre Studies as part of her double major at Uni.
Is that like acting classes. Do you suppose she can sing and dance like CatherIne Zeta Jones? I’d love to see her break into song at the old people’s home!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/12/2018 11:48

Once Phillip goes, HM won’t be long after. I think their marriage has been based on loyal opposed to fidelity iyswim.
Without spelling it out, it was pretty obvious in The Crown that Phillip has dallied. I think lots of aristos of that generation have turned a bling eye.
They are devoted to each other, and I wouldn’t want to see HM sad & lonely without him. I really hope Prince Phillip can make it to 100.

Some stunning photos of Queen Silvia to mark her 75th birthday.
She is going to be in Elle Sweden

A young Silvia and Sofia - can you tell the difference?

Also a gratutious Carl-Philip shot. Just because...

I didn't know there was a retirement home for entertainment industry professionals. Imagine how good their Christmas show must be??

Ok Carl Philip gets restored to top Hottie Prince status. Haakon back to no.2. please.
Yes Sofia is quite a lot like his mum. I guess he loves her!

Funny how William & Harry preferred blondes, Isabella Calthorpe, Chelsey Davy, Cressida Bonas but they married brunettes. The old adage is true.
I just thought it was interesting given Diana’s looks, they both went for something completely different.

Ilovedotcotton · 12/12/2018 11:59

Wow, Sofia and Silvia are so alike. I’d never noticed the similarity before.

As for Carl-Philip....that man is just perfect!

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/12/2018 12:02

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I actually think Kate does look a bit like Diana!

Prince CP and Orlando Bloom - spot the difference!

I don't think The Crown can be classed as historically correct, although there always has been gossip. The series really made me think what a tough role Philip had, as an 'alpha male' type character.

PawneeParksDept · 12/12/2018 12:14

I think Prince Philips infidelities are largely understood to have a basis in fact although never confirmed

Haworthia · 12/12/2018 12:41

You know, I think I HAVE heard of it before. Someone died in the last few years and it was reported that he’d been living in a retirement home for showbiz types and I thought that sounded wonderful. Of course, I can’t remember who it was and when it was Grin

user1457017537 · 12/12/2018 13:10

There was also a film made about a showbiz retirement home.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/12/2018 13:12

Yes, was it called Quartet? With Maggie Smith as a retired opera singer?

I’ve just looked it up it’s Denville Hall in Northwood. Lots of famous faces including Richard Attenborough, Andrew Sachs and Peggy Mount have been guests.

Want2bSupermum · 12/12/2018 13:15

They also have St Paul's church in convent garden with is 'the actors church'. It blew my mind when I first heard of it and someone there explained that most actors were very poor and the church looked after them. Would make sense if there is an OaP home for entertainers too.

Abra1de · 12/12/2018 13:20

Without spelling it out, it was pretty obvious in The Crown that Phillip has dallied.

It’s a TV drama!

Bloominglovely · 12/12/2018 13:21

For all those who say Anne isn’t interested in her image, why do you say this?

I think she is very interested in it, and of maintaining a ‘public’ image. Her style is different, bit old fashioned, she likes a particular style, she maintains a very trm figure.....

I remember listening to an interview she did where she was recollecting something that had occurred in the past and she mentioned exactly what she was wearing. Somebody who wasn’t interested would not be able to do that.

Ok she has not changed her hair but neither have I and I’m thirty years younger than her!

user1457017537 · 12/12/2018 13:23

Re DOE there has been talk for years that he was involved in the biggest scandal of the 1960s.

Paradyning · 12/12/2018 13:24

Naked butler?

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/12/2018 13:26

Profumo wasn't it?

There are also stories about him and Princess Alexandra but I'm not sure she'd have remained so close to HM if that was the case.

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 12/12/2018 13:57

And Penny Romsey.

But it's only ever been gossip - and his best friend (who would say this, of course!), said that while they had both enjoyed the company of women, it had never gone beyond that.

I do wonder if perhaps the Queen would be more tolerant, as she understood the strain her position would have placed on him. But that is purely my musings - no basis in fact!
