Link to previous thread.

And once again, let's keep this good-spirited. Spiteful comments are about as welcome as Fergie at Prince Philip's birthday party!

user, I have no doubt that royal helicopter pilots are from the services, as they will have had training and probably experience with dealing with threats from missiles or drones. I also have no doubt that SAS are involved in high-profile events especially involving the Royal Family or high-profile visiting dignitaries. They have been drafted in to assist, especially in London, when the terrorist threat is high.

What I am doubting is that the military is supplying protection to royals going about their normal, day-to-day, activities. My understanding is that that's provided by the Met.

This is an interesting video of how the Met's special escort group provide security:

Fashion is art? That is debatable.

I am pretty sure I know which side of the debate Meghan's audience at the British Fashion Awards is on.

Want2bSupermum · 12/12/2018 00:50

OK so you know exactly how RF security works.... whatever.

It's been ages since DofC has worn Reiss. She used to wear a lot of their clothes.

How pretty & festive does our heroine Max look?
I love the soft waves in her hair. When it’s down and dead straight it looks a bit thin, but here her hair looks lush

HM had a lunch at the Goring Hotel for her private members of staff.
Also present was her stylist / dresser Angela Kelley, who I’ve never seen before. She looks great in the teal with he matching shoes.
I love HMs suit; very chanelesque. I love that she got a goody bag too!

Prince Phillip out for a carriage ride at Windsor a couple of days ago, and HM on her horse.
HM is 92 and Prince Phillip is less than 3 years away from a hundred years old
They don’t make em like that any more....

@queenofarles

Thanks for the info on the Iranians. The shah was deposed in 1979 ( for being too extravagant) so any photos would predate that.
Their story is actually quite tragic. The shah died a year later in exile, and the two youngest later committed suicide. article in Time here

Went to afternooon tea at the goring few years back. My dcs bought it for me as Mother’s Day present. I can now say I’ve eaten in the same place as the queen. I’m now royalty Crown

TipseyTorvey · 12/12/2018 06:38

Going off recent topic a bit but somewhere down thread someone mentioned that it would've been great to see the queen in a pair of jeans and it's got me thinking: do you think she's EVER worn jeans, or tracky bums...or even gone for a jog in sports gear? Even in the documentaries from yonks ago where they're having a bbq up at Balmoral she was still in a solid tweed skirt and gillet.

Paradyning · 12/12/2018 06:41

Max. Le sigh. She looks fantastic.

As does HM

Paradyning · 12/12/2018 06:42

Thanks for the Shah article @CurlyWurlyTwirly really interesting

beanaseireann · 12/12/2018 07:21

I think since Angela Kelly got involved in styling/ dressing QE she has really upped her style game.

Paradyning · 12/12/2018 07:33

I think her Stewart Parvin outfits are better but then I'm biased!

Clionba · 12/12/2018 07:39

My mother and aunts were the same vintage as HM. They would never have worn jeans or casual trousers. Even going to the shops, my mum always put something nice on, a jacket with a brooch, a good handbag. They were very particular about "standards" of appearance! I do like HM's suit. Nice to see the redoubtable Angela Kelly!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 12/12/2018 07:45

My mum is in her 70s & has never as far as I can recall worn trousers. Me - I’m hardly in anything else!

Horsemad · 12/12/2018 07:48

My Mum's 78 and wears jeans - really smart dark blue ones, she looks great in them. 🙂 She's quite trendy for an old one, my Mum, lol! 😆

Princess Anne is top of my list in the RF - great work ethic and no nonsense approach. Seems to have done a good job with her children as well. Didn’t know she had been involved in a kidnapping attempt.

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2018 08:10

I read some time ago that the Queen had an extremely close relationship with Angela Kelly - she thought of her as a sister. She looks a lot nicer than I expected - friendly, and a slightly older lady herself.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/12/2018 08:30

I think for posh ladies; jodhpurs are the aristo equivalent of jeans.
I read a biography of Jackie Kennedy and she used to wear jodhpurs around the White House. I’ve also see Clare Foy wear them in The Crown ( somit must be true!)
I’ve seen the Queen in a tweed trouser suit after her knee op a few years back).
I’ve always wondered what she looks like with wet hair.
If she wanted to be unrecognisable, she should just change her hairstyle!

Megan's earrings and bangles were from the Turquoise Mountain Foundation, made in Afghanistan. It's one of Prince Charles' charities.

I knew someone who had been a royal protection officer. He was not ex military as I recall.
I listened to the speech and read the text. Although it was well delivered, it was actually not saying anything meaningful. Fashion used to be cruel but now it’s kind? A reference to fur I think, but if not, no idea what that means.
Shared values? What values?
I’m sorry, I thought it was pretentious and self referencing.
How is fashion about women empowering women? A lot of fashion designers are male. Fashion does not empower people. Not in any real sense. It’s fun, it is enjoyable and it is a form of art. However, it can also disempower. It can reduce women to objects, and it is wasteful of resources and money which could be better spent on really empowering people.
I wonder what the women at the Hub think about fashion designers and clothes that cost thousands ?
I love fashion, but no one can pretend it’s ‘empowering ‘. Not really.

Moononthehill28 · 12/12/2018 08:47

Princess Anne does a fantastic job. She works very hard, isn’t interested in her image , clothes or being seen for anything other than a hard working member of the Royal Family. She’s also done a great job as a mother. She’s kept her private life private.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 12/12/2018 09:09

Spot on Moon re Princess Anne.
