I was initially underwhelmed by today's but having used it, it does seem to be a bloody good nail file! It's the kind if thing I will still be using in 5 years, I think!

Polpette · 14/12/2018 08:18

I had a very similar reaction IToldYouIWasFreaky

I was really impressed with how well it worked. It didn't feel as destructive and harsh as my usual nail file and it smoothed my nails perfectly.

So I take it from comments above that this doesn't really wear out over time?

fredleighton · 14/12/2018 08:25

I used the Percy and Reed product last night. My hair looks really shiny and soft this morning after washing. Very pleased.

Butterymuffin · 14/12/2018 08:29

Was also confused by 'glow time' and then the nail file! Did the slogans on the boxes get mismatched somewhere? Though at least it's not just me with the 'wrong' item.

Tried the Percy and Reed hair overnight stuff and it made most of my hair lovely and soft, but left the roots looking greasy and still product-laden even after washing. I have fine hair that can easily get weighted down though. However, if using it again I won't be quite as generous as they tell you to be with the amount I apply, and will avoid the roots altogether.

MysweetAudrina · 14/12/2018 08:40

Had no idea what today's was either. I am a nail biter bit this might encourage me to mind them over the xmas. My dh was impressed with it and had a go.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 14/12/2018 08:57

I really can't recommend these nail files enough, I bought one about 5 years ago after seeing people talk about them on here, it is so gentle, yet very effective. Brilliant product.

AllTheProsecco · 14/12/2018 08:58

Wasn't that impressed when I opened my box this morning but if you guys highly rate them, then hopefully I'll feel the same.
I'm pregnant atm and my nails seem to never break so enjoying having nice nails for a few more months Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 14/12/2018 09:01

They are better for your nails than the sandpaper emery boards and metal nail files. The older style ones can split your nails.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/12/2018 09:08

Useful 👍👍

Haworthia · 14/12/2018 09:16

I bought a glass nail file in TK Maxx less than 48 hours ago Grin But it’s fine, because it’s a great handbag size.

YouWereRight · 14/12/2018 09:32

I have one of these from a couple of years ago, and as they have a 25 year guarantee, when bought from m&s, no need for another any time soon.

And it just doesn't feel like fun.

latedecember1963 · 14/12/2018 09:39

This comes in the category of "practical". However, I agree with pp that these are so much better than metal or sandpaper style files.
Just rinse under cold water & leave to dry every so often and they seem to go on for ever.
Leighton Denny mini files generally seem to retail at £12.50 which brings our total to £143.62.

I'll next update the tally on Sunday evening or Monday morning as I'm off to see my son. We're going to the Birmingham Christmas market and then watching the Strictly final at his student house with a takeaway. 😁 We'll wend our way home with his goods and chattels at some point on Sunday.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 14/12/2018 10:08

Late That sounds like a perfect pre-Christmas Saturday to me! I was at the Birmingham Christmas market last weekend. It's very busy but very festive and the mulled wine is delicious!

AlannaOfTrebond · 14/12/2018 10:19

I love the nail file, I've got a full sized one, so this one can go in my sponge bag for travelling.

I'm also loving the elasticizer. I tried the pony tail trick someone helpfully suggested, left it on all day then washed it out in the evening. It smells gorgeous and my hair is still really soft a couple of days later.

BlancheM · 14/12/2018 10:19

I received the same file in this calendar the year before last and it was like trying to file my nails on a tube of lip balm (or insert anything non file-able here), very surprising for something with a 25 year guarantee- maybe it was a dud? Hopefully this one works!
I've opened the whole calendar, I do think some boxes may have been mixed up...

BollockingBaubles · 14/12/2018 11:25

I like the idea of the nail file and don't doubt its quality but........ the texture of nail files really really sets my teeth on edge and I just can't bare to touch them. The side of a matchbox and sandpaper have the same effect on me and while I know this is smoother and naice, my brain knows it's the same family and the second it fell into my hands the sensation just thought the plastic set me off, it's giving me goosebumps just looking at it. Smile

My sister will absolutely love it though. She's been looking at glass nail files. So it's not wasted.

With the glow clue I thought it an empty box that should have had a highlighter or sparkly gloss.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 14/12/2018 11:55

I've gone from not really having any skin-care routine up until about a month ago to suddenly resolving to use up last year's L'occitane advent calendar produce and putting on absolutely everything from this year's M&S and I have to say my skin looks AMAZING. I obviously don't react to over-producting Grin

The only problem is that I don't really know what is having an effect, or whether it is all working together. I suppose I'll find that out when one or more things runs out and I start to look more rubbish again...

SlowNorris · 14/12/2018 13:10

What a disappointment. A bloody nail file Hmm

LoniceraJaponica · 14/12/2018 14:29

I don't have my nails "done", and look after my own nails. This nail file is excellent.

midnightowl · 14/12/2018 14:56

This is the first time I have had this type of advent calendar and I am enjoying opening the little boxes every day and trying them out. I especially like the hair products, the Shay & Blue, the Hyasoft boost gel which I used last night under my night cream and today's nail file. Although I already have a full sized one this one will come in useful for popping into my bag. I find they are much gentler on my nails.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 14/12/2018 15:03

On cost - I was in Tiger yesterday and they were selling these files for £1. Unbranded but looked the same.

EmeraldVillage · 14/12/2018 16:50

I was rather disappointed when I open today’s box. However if it is a good one like many people here say then it would be a great size for the make up bag and may actually end up get used more than many of the other calendar products.

Rupeomatic · 14/12/2018 17:12

I was underwhelmed with today's offering - a nail file is a nail file iyswim, but I have just tried it out. It DOESN'T set my teeth on edge like every other nail file I have ever used, and my nails feel so smooth with very little effort. This might just turn out to be a bit of a gem.

cuppycakey · 14/12/2018 18:07

I get my nails done so this is useless to me, but can give to someone.

Hoping for some make up tomorrow!!

Pinkgin50 · 14/12/2018 18:45

I wasn't very excited to get the nail file but have found it works well so have replaced the emery board in my manicure set with it .
