But what about taking the kids to Pizza Express?!

Spudlet · 30/11/2018 09:11

Now Harry I can imagine sloping off for a post-pub kebab and cheesy chips!

AhoyDelBoy · 30/11/2018 09:19

That’s right Paradyning

AhoyDelBoy · 30/11/2018 09:40

I kinda just thought they didn’t go out for meals (well nowadays anyway, maybe pre-marriage) but surely they must. It would be really weird for the kids to get to their teenage years never having been out for a meal as a family (although maybe less weird if it was the 50s-70s).

chumsnet · 30/11/2018 09:40

I live in London and regularly see celebs and royalty out and about. Royals are usually accompanied by two ex-military type bodyguards usually in blazers and slacks and you tend to notice the bodyguards (not because they look like Dwayne the Rock but because they dress as if stranded in 1982) before you notice the royals. The only celebs I have ever seen mobbed - despite their extensive security - were Justin Bieber and Beyonce and Jay-Z. Even then, those were orchestrated public appearances, they weren’t nipping to Waitrose. Most people just do a double take and there are a lot of people who just inhabit different and sometimes insular worlds. My child shares a swimming class with a Chelsea footballer’s child but we - the other parents - have no idea who he is because none of us know anything about football.

The private road next to KP opens out onto a stretch of shops with a Topshop, Zara and Uniqlo so very handy for a quick bit of retail therapy.

AhoyDelBoy · 30/11/2018 09:43

I would imagine they tend to go the sort of places where mobbing a celeb would be v uncool.

Exactly. And surely even the most diehard of fans isn’t going to go screeching up to them yelling and carrying on. If I was in London and saw Kate (what are the chances 🤔) I’d probably be in shock.

Makes note to pop there on said visit to London Smile

Blazers as in bulletproof vests?

Spudlet · 30/11/2018 09:49

Mind you, if I saw the DoC browsing the haircare aisle in Boots I'd definitely be trying to have a discreet nose at her shopping basket Grin

queenofarles · 30/11/2018 09:52

Apologies for this, non royal fashion related, but
speaking of lady-in -waiting, last night i watched the best, i mean the BEST live video on insta, of none other than lady P, lady-in-waiting to HM,at her daughter's India tea party. she was mortified to see a cake served on a stand its cafeteria style Grin .She was equally mortified with the lack of silver tea pots, there should be two Grin. what an absolute gem! Think its still up on insta,i highly recommend watching it.

Sorry for the diversion, as yo were.

@queenofarles I didn't see that particular one but I love listening to Lady P. It's like stepping back in time and she sounds posher then the Queen!

Article on Kate’s PPOs
To be honest; hers are very discreet; she has two female bodyguards.

I think the royals like being at their country residences as they don’t get bothered. There’s recent pics of Kate at the Waitrose in Norfolk ( pregnant with a Louis). In Scotland I think the locals are very protective of the Royals.

I just remembered, in the 90s I met a girl who lived in Scotland ( tall, slim, short blonde hair) and she had been asked to be a decoy for Diana. She would go out in a car and the photographers would follow her; somDiana could slip out unnoticed.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/11/2018 10:33

Who is Lady P? Can we have an Instagram link please?

@ahoydelboy
A blazer is a navy jacket which is sort of ex army officer dress down style; worn with chinos.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/11/2018 10:38
You’d think her ppo would give her a hand. The most incongruous photo is HM in the Milk aisle in a supermarket in Poundbury.
QueenOfTheAndals · 30/11/2018 10:44

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Lady Pamela Hicks, Mountbatten's daughter. Her daughter India Hicks was one of Diana's bridesmaids. She's now a designer and lives a fabulous life in the Bahamas with her partner and 5 children.

Maxima chatting to musical kids is always worth a look. She's so warm and gregarious and always looks like she's having a blast l. I'd be devastated if I found out it was all an act and she was an ice queen behind closed doors!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/11/2018 10:55

I don't think that's really Kate in Norfolk is it? Looks more like something filmed for a joke featuring a lookalike. I'd hope her real bodyguard would give her a hand putting the shopping in the car!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/11/2018 10:58

It is Kate. I remember thinking, oh she’s wearing the same coat she wore to her engagement that morning.
I know India Hicks. ( not personally). She is a Ralph Lauren muse. She had an Instagrammable life before Instagram was invented!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/11/2018 11:01

India Hicks

AnimalMystery · 30/11/2018 11:02

Presumably the bodyguard is supposed to keep his hands free in case she’s attacked.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/11/2018 11:06

When was the last time a Royal was actually attacked? I can only think of Anne's attempted kidnap. Was it the IRA or just some random kidnappers?

DontCallMeCharlotte · 30/11/2018 11:09

Princess Marie is the latest royal to wear a pleated midi skirt. I like that one, it's unusual. She just looks SO much like CPM in some of those shots!

This is my favourite version of these skirts so far, probably because I have one almost exactly the same (except in black).

And yes, Marie is so like CPM, it's uncanny!

AhoyDelBoy · 30/11/2018 11:09

I was just looking this up when you posted it on the thread Grin

So the poor decoy gets followed so lady Di can get out unhounded. I suppose they used to back off pretty quick when they realised they’d been taken for a ride.

Agree with AnimalMystery about the bodyguard. I also guess they have a pretty specific list of dos and don’ts.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/11/2018 11:13

I think the press have backed off a bit since the Diana years. She was always photographed going to or leaving the gym but I've never seen shots of Kate on the tennis court or Meghan on her way back from Pilates, but maybe they do all their exercise at home now.

But I also think Diana tipped the photographers off.
