That would be a nightmare. One thing for no baby being a conscious decision - but if they're trying and there's issues, imagine having to bat off the worlds press as well as your many well meaning relatives. ''When are you two going to produce ....?''. Ugh. Been there!

itswinetime · 29/11/2018 12:49

Not sure if Kaye is looking at William or taking a photo to be honest but I'm going to use this as my excuse to settle in to the new thread!

Was it disclosed where the coat dress that was worn yesterday came from. It was so well tailored and I'm always looking for that sort of thing, although not a coat, for work.

Living here in the US so many women get their hair blown out 2-3 times a week that I've become used to seeing shiny, big bouncy hair. I wear mine up in a pony because I've got 3 DC and no time to go get it blown out.

halfwitpicker · 29/11/2018 12:52

Kate looks well

Laiste · 29/11/2018 12:52

I'm LOVING looking at the Diana photos. I could look at her all day. Stunning woman. Fascinating. She died tragically young and her life story will never fade into banality.

I agree with a pp about average 80s heel height being much lower than now.

I'm old enough to remember her being in the press every day and i am also surprised at how slim she appears to my eyes now. She never struck me as particularly slim back then. Is it because folk are on average a bit bigger these days?

Laiste · 29/11/2018 12:55

I think the hair back/up is more formal than the bouncy blow out and Kate is trying to move towards a more polished and serious look these days.

Laiste · 29/11/2018 12:57

Too many 'these days' there Grin

itswinetime · 29/11/2018 13:01

It's a Cathrine Walker coat dress. Thanks to Instagram I can also do shoes bag and earrings if you want Wink

In other news anne is on a royal tour of Chile (is it just me who has no idea how many royal tours there were until these thread). Her dedication to wearing gloves is strong still Wink

Yep in the 80s stilettos were very much regarded as an "Essex Girl" thing. And were more or less exclusively a going out clubbing thing for those that did wear them. People didn't wear towering heels during the day.

Want2bSupermum · 29/11/2018 13:05

laiste Yes people are much bigger today so when you see someone slim they look so much smaller.

Here in NYC everyone is so damn skinny and I'm not. I look far bigger than I am. When I'm in the UK and Denmark I'm slimmer than most and look smaller.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2018 13:15

Speaking of Catherine Walker, I've just been poking around the website; the "mother of the bride" section in particular contains a lot of the sort of stuff Kate wears

www.catherinewalker.com/category/motb/

And there's hardly I single thing on there I wouldn't love to have - if I could afford it!!

Spudlet · 29/11/2018 13:24

I think our perception of the ideal body type has changed slightly now as well - what struck me about those pics of Diana was how slim she was without having much muscle definition. I think a more toned, exercised look is in favour now - such as Megan's arms, which are slim but also have a little more muscle definition. It's a more athletic look.

Laiste · 29/11/2018 13:26

Puzzledandpissedoff i agree. If/when i'm mother of the bride (4 DDs) i want to wear a CW coat dress! I'll start saving now. I couldn't actually see any prices on the web site .... that's not encouraging Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/11/2018 13:32

@Spudlet Diana definitely had more toned arms later in life, I think that when she died she was looking the best she ever had. She'd really come into her own style-wise and looked like a woman rather than a girl.

haha thats what I was thinking laiste! They must be seriously expensive.

Is it just me or have they specifically chosen a Kate-alike model for much of those dresses/outfits? She's even wearing the nude heels!

Spudlet · 29/11/2018 13:37

Yes, I remember seeing pictures of her leaving the gym and things. And her style definitely improved. Partly it's down to changes in fashion, of course, but that 'revenge' LBD? WOW. I would wear that any day even now!

It's tragic that she died full stop, of course, but she just seemed to be coming into her own as well. Just a dreadful, awful waste.

SenecaFalls · 29/11/2018 13:39

People didn't wear towering heels during the day.

And certainly not to work. Footwear is my biggest issue these days. I like to think that my clothes are stylish, but I cannot wear stilettos.

Living here in the US so many women get their hair blown out 2-3 times a week that I've become used to seeing shiny, big bouncy hair.

Very true and not just in NY. I know a woman who has a standing appointment at her hairdresser for this every day, Mon-Fri. She washes her hair at home in the shower, stops off at hairdresser on way to work, and gets it blown out.

To my mind, the best thing about being royal would be the on-call hairdresser part of the package.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/11/2018 13:50

Thanks Queen for the new excellently-titled thread.

I can see what you mean about Stephanie. If she isn't, that is a rather unfortunate jacket.

MrFMercury I thought I was pretty well up on royal terms but "DR" has defeated me. Can I have a clue? Grin

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/11/2018 13:59

This is partly true but I wore them and I definitely wasn't an Essex girl type. I used to walk nearly two miles to and from work (including a cobbled High Street) in three or four inch heels!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2018 14:08

I couldn't actually see any prices on the web site .... that's not encouraging

Yep - a bit ominous isn't it? Wink

I see there are a few listings for her stuff on ebay ... probably fake though!!

TipseyTorvey · 29/11/2018 14:16

Senecafall Every Day?!!! She gets her hair blow dried every day? My mind is blown. I haven't been to the hairdressers for 6 years.....

SenecaFalls · 29/11/2018 14:25

Tipsey Yes, every week day. Not on the weekends though. I assume that she does it herself on those days.

I will admit to having just a salon blow-dry myself from time to time (as opposed to just when I have it cut or colored). I do live in an area (Southern US) that has what I would consider fairly high expectations for grooming, and a lot of women do this so it's possible to have it done relatively inexpensively. Also, I just find it very relaxing to have someone else fiddle with my hair.

Want2bSupermum · 29/11/2018 14:49

Generally speaking people here have much higher disposable income. Salaries are much higher so if you aren't saving it's possible to spend an awful lot. DH and I live very simply compared to most other people.

MotherofPearl · 29/11/2018 14:57

I think Princess Anne looks really stylish in that picture wine posted upthread. She's 68 and has an amazing figure!

Want2bSupermum · 29/11/2018 15:01

mother I agree. She looks amazing.

I like that she wears gloves. Working with horses, my hands are not in great shape, although it's been 15 years since I was properly riding. Her hands are probably not in the best of shape. Also, it's a nice way to avoid touching hands with everyone you meet. With the amount of handshaking she does I would imagine wearing gloves helps keep your hand 'clean' for further people being met.
