To be clear, if Sir Fellowes had not been married to Princess Diana's sister he would never have been equerry to the Queen. [[https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/profile-a-classy-member-of-the-family-robert-fellowes-the-queens-private-secretary-1543090.html]] is a nice article about him.

He did a fabulous job navigating the RF through a very challenging time of two divorces and completely failed to protect the RF when Princess Diana died. My father was horrified that he was given a seat in the HofL. My father was reading the papers over breakfast and just about choked on his toast before stuttering 'God good didn't he have the good grace to decline it?'

Link didn't work... This hopefully does!

LollyLollington · 03/12/2018 00:38

Sir Fellowes again.....Grin

FlyMaybe · 03/12/2018 01:14

Surely it's Sir Firstname or Sir Firstname Lastname - not just Sir Lastname?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/12/2018 02:36

Robert Fellowes is also a cousin of Sarah Ferguson.
He had a typical equerry background: Eton; Guards Officer, Banking.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/12/2018 02:45

Thé Queen’s current equerry is Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah originally from Ghana. He is originally from Ghana. (Not Sure how he is an aristocrat though, as stated by pp. Is he a member of Ghanaian Aristocracy?)

Just out of interest; is it just the monarch who had equerries or does eg Prince Charles have them too?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/12/2018 02:53
Hé has a very normal accent. The Queen continues to be a progressive in her appointments. I hope as the years go by; there are more appointees from the Commonwealth.

It would appear that going to Sandringham this year. DM link
I think it would have been nice to all be at Carole’s
I suspect the Middletons will decamp to Anmer. Perhaps William ans Kate spend the night of Christmas Eve at Anmer, after the official family dinner so that they can do presents with the kids. Apparently Harry & Meghan stayed at Anmer too last year. So they will probably be at Sandringham this year.

Queen Rania out & about . Nothing spectacular fashion wise.

Advice from Michelle Obama to Meghan to “take foot off the gas”

user1457017537 · 03/12/2018 04:17

Re the fake footman - it’s all so outdated isn’t it. Three members of staff to carry a pot of coffee a couple of yards. They should get Carole Middleton to re-organise their households.

Paradyning · 03/12/2018 04:43

I agree @DontCallMeCharlotte cannot wait til the Nobels!

That's hilarious @Want2bSupermum

mrscampbellblackreturns · 03/12/2018 05:33

I think that is very wise advice from Michelle Obama. And now please can we see some nice Christmassy outfits from the royals.

BeverlyGoldberg · 03/12/2018 05:51

Long time lurker on these threads. You're all the reason I have failed to make progress in any books I pick up... Royal updates are my first port of call when I have free time.

The Irish Independent referring to the recent leaks in what it calls "The week of wicked Windsor whispers"

The edition of Good Housekeeping that goes on sale today is going to break all sales records isn’t it.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 03/12/2018 06:11

Interesting viewpoint from the Irish Independent - no one is bigger than the whole. Would so love to know what the Queen thinks of all this gossip. Mind you she’s dealt with & come through worse.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/12/2018 06:28

Good article from the Irish Independent.
It would appear that “ lessons have been learnt “ from the Diana years. There are no superstars in the RF and Meghan is bring firmly reminded of that before the whole situation gets out of hand.

Cornwall73 · 03/12/2018 06:30

For those of you waiting by for the Nobel’s here is a retrospective from 2008. Lovely dresses and bling!

The Queen’s Christmas dining table at Sandringham. Is it just me, or does it appear small?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/12/2018 06:48

I mean small for such a huge family and also rather austere.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 03/12/2018 06:53

That’s very small - my parents one is far bigger. I thought all the royals got invited - so the Kents, Gloucesters etc. Anyone know?
