Diptyque sell electronic diffusers, great for large spaces, fabulous aromas and hardly comparable to glade plug ins.

Joking aside, most ordinary weddings are extremely stressful especially in the build up, look at all the wedding threads on Mumsnet.

I think you've hit the nail on the head @CurlyWurlyTwirly. Get rid of all that bureaucracy and the grey men will soon find themselves out of a job. They must sense the end is coming for them once HM passes anyway. I can't see Charles letting them dictate to him and William even less.

Even the story of Kate at Charlotte's dress fitting has gone from "in tears for an unspecified reason" to "Meghan made Kate cry" over the past week.

My take is that Charlotte looked so adorable and grown-up in her dress that her post-party mother burst into tears and it had nothing to do with Meghan!

Thing is though MM should have known exactly what she was marrying into. She will not change the Royal Family especially as she will ultimately be a fairly minor royal.

I guess Kate had a lot longer to understand what she was getting into. I suspect it isn't all turning out quite how MM expected.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/12/2018 08:31

I'm sure I read an interview with Fergie that said she wanted to walk into the church and be able to smell all the beautiful flowers. However, because of the TV lights etc the was no scent left. She had lovely flowers too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/12/2018 08:45

I doubt Meghan is trying to change his royal family but perhaps she and Harry have certain ideas regarding how they, as a couple, want to do their work. Perhaps the systems in place are inefficient and they've found better ways of doing things.

Like it or not, a change is coming and the grey men are probably getting worried. There's a good chance William will be on the throne within 20 years and he's the last person to take being ordered around.

Most likely Curly but then that wouldn’t sell papers!

Spudlet · 01/12/2018 08:56

Having read about some of the more ridiculous rules (for example, Royal ladies must not remove their coats in public, as that would apparently be tantamount to stripping off to the regal keks and bejewelled, tasselled pasties Shock), I think a few changes are long overdue. And I can't blame MM if - if! - she is rather Hmm at such utterly stupid rules. Actually, I think less of her if she isn't questioning this crap! Yes yes, protocol, decorum, etc etc, but really, is shrugging a coat off such a massive deal in 2018? Who is making these rules, and who is enforcing them?

I accept the argument that the Royals need to be 'different' from us plebeians but they can achieve this without being preserved in aspic. I think someone (possibly clad in grey) sees this and does not like it. Hence the poor press. Which is a shame, because if the Royals don't move on to an extent they risk becoming increasingly out of step with the modern world - and thus irrelevant. They have to find a balance, somehow, between tradition and parody.

Down with the coatdress! Give those women proper jackets, ffs!

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/12/2018 09:02

I suspect the tiara incident went much the same as @CurlyWurlyTwirly describes. Meghan admiring an emerald one only to be told "oops no, that ones here by mistake, choose another". I find it even harder to believe she wanted the one Eugenie wore as it wouldn't have suited her veil at all!

Do you know what I love about the royal Christmas photos is their trees are normally decorated. I live in an area with lots of celebrities, wags and wag wannabes and the fashion is for trees that have had a fortune spent on them and look like they are covered so much you can no longer see the tree - often in trendy colours like pink, teal or black. The royal trees are traditional baubles and decorations in Christmas colours and that makes me happy!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/12/2018 09:07

The latest titbit in the DM is from Meghan#s last agent, that she is no longer in touch with; that Meghan will return to Hollywood to make another film!

mrscampbellblackreturns · 01/12/2018 09:08

I assume there is a grain of truth in that the Cambridges and Sussexes aren't bosom pals - and of course they don't have to be. But, the difficult thing is that the Sussexes ultimately will have to defer to the Cambridges won't they?

I wonder if MM thought there was more room for change and is just finding it all incredibly hard to navigate. I don't envy her at all. Although I do of course envy her the jewels ;)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/12/2018 09:10

The only thing about Tiaragate is that Meghan seemed to have a green theme.
HM and Doria both in Green. Photos shot in the Green Drawing room.
Meghan may have said "is there an emerald tiara in the collection" instead of simply gratefully accepting what she was given....
The poor girl cant open her mouth without it being distorted.

user1457017537 · 01/12/2018 09:23

Much as we all love Tiaras they are not compulsory are they!

Paradyning · 01/12/2018 09:26

I agree @CurlyWurlyTwirly was going to say the same thing.
Hmmm maybe we could have beautiful smells in the chapel

No

Ok

Boom. She is a witch!

FATEdestiny · 01/12/2018 09:30

I find it even harder to believe she wanted the one Eugenie wore as it wouldn't have suited her veil at all!

I suspect that the tiara choice is made before the veil design. In fact it could be a choice made before the dress design. So that the veil (maybe even the whole outfit) is inspired by the tiara choice, rather than the other way around.

It therefore becomes irrelevant that a tiara doesn't go with the eventual veil. Because if a different tiara was chosen then the veil and look may well have been different and more suited to the chosen tiara.

Clionba · 01/12/2018 09:32

I wonder if partly it's how Meghan deals with staff, in a very direct way? Not rude, but seems more demanding? In interviews pre Harry she comes across as a very confident, direct and ambitious young woman, and why not?! Perhaps in a world of slightly more old fashioned manners she may appear abrasive. I'm not blaming Meghan, quite the contrary, but her approach is almost certainly very different. If she's a perfectionist, it could have magnified that.
Let's hope it dies down soon.

FATEdestiny · 01/12/2018 09:34

I do suspect that, as part of the inner RF from birth, that Eugenie has had her tiara picked for years, as a peice she loves.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/12/2018 09:40

I don't know how much access the Royal ladies have to the jewels. I suspect they just get what they're given. The Queen does not share the tiaras she, wears regularly. Camilla only wears the Queen Mother's tiaras (which are magnificent.)
I hope once Charles is King, he cracks open the jewel vault and tells the Duchesses "knock yourselves out"!

frugalkitty · 01/12/2018 09:40

I don't think Meghan will return to the screen, Princess Grace very nearly did but ultimately realised got told that the risqué scenes involved were just not appropriate for a princess. I suppose if the marriage failed she could do it, but as long as she's married to Harry she can't really go back to acting.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/12/2018 09:41

Re: Men in grey suits (MIGs) or should they be called midges as the MIGs are coming across even more annoying than midges!

Wasn't it the French court that had it in for Marie-Antoinette (Maria Antonia) just because she was Austrian & had her own ideas?
Just like Meghan being American & having her own ideas.
Obviously the same fate will not befall Meghan.

frugalkitty · 01/12/2018 09:43

FATE I agree about Eugenie's tiara. I think she'll have known which one she wanted and if the rumour about her and Jack having to delay their wedding to let H&M go first, I like to think she struck a deal "ok, fine, but I'm having the emerald tiara!".....chances are they knew she wanted the emerald one so dissuaded Meghan from having something similar. I don't think there was any ill will involved.

itswinetime · 01/12/2018 09:46

I have never thought tiara gate was about Eugenies tiara the reason given was about the tiaras history being unknown. I think Megan was sent the catalogue picked her favourite to try on and the message came back sorry we don't think that one can be worn at the moment. To which at worst I imagine was an well you should take it out of the catalogue but more like a ok no worries!

I don't think we have seen leaks like this so so constant and sustained since Prince di and Charles divorced and it's widely agreed that they were both authorising those. I personally believe a senior royal has to be in on whatever is going on otherwise they would shut it down surely?

beanaseireann · 01/12/2018 09:50

I was unable to read the article in the Telegraph on Carole Middleton as it appears to be 'locked'
I'm amazed she's giving an interview and doing something in Good Housekeeping too.
Odd, as they have been so careful to say/ do nothing to draw attention to themselves in the past and have been so discreet.
