I think William wants the monarchy to revert back to the times of Queen Victoria, not seen and not heard unless it’s in their interests but still want all the massive privileges the role provides at our expense
I think this may be right. I think he hasn’t yet found his identity as a man, outwith future monarch. HMQ and PC have, at their ages. William doesn’t truly get that he has his extraordinary privileges by accident of birth, not because he deserves them. Doesn’t help that he’s surrounded by rich kids with privileges and no duties at all, and of course has had no life other than future monarch. He is yet to understand that the privations of his life haven’t earned him the privileges, that that’s not the way it works. HMQ is a pretty ordinary rich woman. Eats cornflakes, not wasteful, modest personal taste, for herself and her family. Plenty like her around. PC has found his spot: eco stuff, the Duchy stuff, and he’s been round the block and survived personal strife. They’re both secure in themselves as ordinary (albeit filthy rich) people, and carry the mantle and weight of royalty in addition. That’s why, as people say, it’s a job nobody would ever want.
William.....he’s just all knee-jerk and hot temper and “I will because I can”. Okay he’s been dealt a rough hand with his mum, but many young people suffer worse but end up with less resentment and bile.
Child kings and queens are feared for a reason: they wield immense power but lack wisdom and self-restraint. Charles will probably end up being a decent enough king - aged 70+. William at 50? Not so sure.
