Phew, here you all are!

I've no idea why these threads are so addictive. I'm an ardent anti-monarchist in real life 😳

itswinetime · 15/11/2018 21:25

Never been a big follower of the Obama's so I may be wrong but from what I have seen Michelle has a good style over the years not sure if the body shapes are the same but she could be a good inspiration for Meghan as she finds her Royal style.

Amal Clooney also always looks good from what I have seen but probably a bit to fashion forward from what we have seen of Meghan so far and general royal style.

*She is Porchey's daughter. Her husband is the Queen's racing manager

I think that's WAS the Queen's racing manager - he died on the memorable date of 9/11*

Her father, the 8th Earl of Carnarvon (previously Lord Porchester, Porchy) WAS the Queen's racing manager, until he died on 9/11. His son in law, John Warren, took over after his death. Lady Carolyn has two brothers, George Herbert 8th Earl of Carnarvon, and Hon. Harry Herbert.

I love that colour dress!!

Clionba · 15/11/2018 21:31

I saw that documentary on Camilla, it was on tv a few months ago. She did seem lovely, very kind and down to earth, but they did only interview friends!

halfwitpicker · 15/11/2018 21:32

RomaineCalm · 15/11/2018 21:38

Blimey. This is fastest moving thread on MN. Grin

Love the colour of the DoC's dress today but really don't like the length - her day dresses so often look as if they belong to someone 3" shorter.

itswinetime · 15/11/2018 21:43

That Instagram link is awesome @CoachBombay

Here’s CP Mary in Red
Kate would look fantastic in that outfit.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/11/2018 21:47

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Squint a bit and it IS Kate wearing that outfit!

Just watched the Camilla documentary. I thought she was lovely and genuine. She has five dogs from Battersea Dog's Home (of which she is a patron) and invites terminally sick children and their families to decorate the Christmas tree at Clarence House every year - admitting that she goes away and has a cry when it's over. She is my new favourite Royal!

IdaBWells · 15/11/2018 21:50

I also wonder though if William is conscious of his dad’s desire to be accepted as King with Camilla and in all the popularity polls (like one that came out this week) he and Catherine are much more popular than Charles and Camilla (Harry is the most popular followed by the Queen). We all see Charles’ insecurity and what an issue that was in his marriage to Diana, in that she was the Superstar and he was in her shadow.

So maybe Will is also very aware of not wanted to steal his dad’s thunder or give any gist to the mill where people might like to skip a generation entirely and go straight to W & C (we all know that’s not an option in a monarchy). I’m sure he is glad that Harry & Meghan are sharing a lot of popular attention and taking the heat off his nuclear family somewhat.

IdaBWells · 15/11/2018 21:52

EmGee Camilla does come over well in that documentary but on the other hand they were with her for a year and don’t show very much so I think it was very seriously edited to maintain a very “jolly hockey sticks” image for Camilla. It was extremely one sided, propaganda rather than PR!

7salmonswimming · 15/11/2018 21:55

I think William wants the monarchy to revert back to the times of Queen Victoria, not seen and not heard unless it’s in their interests but still want all the massive privileges the role provides at our expense

I think this may be right. I think he hasn’t yet found his identity as a man, outwith future monarch. HMQ and PC have, at their ages. William doesn’t truly get that he has his extraordinary privileges by accident of birth, not because he deserves them. Doesn’t help that he’s surrounded by rich kids with privileges and no duties at all, and of course has had no life other than future monarch. He is yet to understand that the privations of his life haven’t earned him the privileges, that that’s not the way it works. HMQ is a pretty ordinary rich woman. Eats cornflakes, not wasteful, modest personal taste, for herself and her family. Plenty like her around. PC has found his spot: eco stuff, the Duchy stuff, and he’s been round the block and survived personal strife. They’re both secure in themselves as ordinary (albeit filthy rich) people, and carry the mantle and weight of royalty in addition. That’s why, as people say, it’s a job nobody would ever want.

William.....he’s just all knee-jerk and hot temper and “I will because I can”. Okay he’s been dealt a rough hand with his mum, but many young people suffer worse but end up with less resentment and bile.

Child kings and queens are feared for a reason: they wield immense power but lack wisdom and self-restraint. Charles will probably end up being a decent enough king - aged 70+. William at 50? Not so sure.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 21:57

With the Camilla Documentary; the friends —sycophants— were very much pushing the she will be queen angle; which got a bit wearing.
However there was a genuineness in Camilla which was heartening to see.

itswinetime · 15/11/2018 21:58

So I may be over invested i the European monarchy page but seriously what was Max thinking with this one

Royal style & gossip: what do we want? Frock shots! When do we want them? Now!
Paradyning · 15/11/2018 21:58

Hahahahhaha that's not a good look. (But I still love her)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 22:00

Good points @7salmonswimming

I wonder if Kate and to a lesser extent the Middletons have given him a bit of a grasp of real life.
I think Harry’s 10/years in the army really helped with his grounding

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 22:02

Max looks like a topiary.
(Still can’t switch off that smile)

itswinetime · 15/11/2018 22:05

I love her too she has some great outfits no doubt but she has some clangers too which actually to me anyway makes her all the more interesting and endearing.

CoachBombay · 15/11/2018 22:08

Glad you like the link all there are some absolute gorgeous outfits on there, but then some absolute horrors 😂

I'm glad it's not just us peasants that get it wrong lol
