Goodness they go out a lot in the evenings don't they? I know they have all the staff on hand to do all the tedious stuff but having spent all day shaking hands, smiling and listening to tedious explanations about how a chainsaw works you'd think they just want to put on a tracksuit and eat beans on toast in front of the tv. Mind you I bet kates got some cracking lounge wear in drapey cashmere.

He seems to be inspiring a lot of heat and I'm not entirely sure what he's done to warrant it.

I guess in the microclimate of this thread, we can compare William to other Royal Families and he is being scrutinised more (by us).
The other two top 3 Royal males; Charles and William have been higher profile of late; with the Down Under tour & the 79th Birthday.

William probably isn’t doing anything particularly different and he probably feels that given 2 Royal weddings; we’ve probably seen a fair bit of them.
Unfortunately given the publicity those events have generated, more access is now the new normal.

Given what we have seen of William’s treatment by the press in various documentaries, his reticence is understandable. However he has had 20 years of goodwill from the Press & the British public; since Diana died.

Now that Harry & Meghan are on the scene; and Charles& Camilla are rehabilitated, you can see how little we see of William’s family outside the controlled environment .

He should do what other royal families do and publish a summer and Christmas photo. A single photo before a private event last night. ( both He & Harry did it before the evening receptions of their weddings) and everyone was happy.

Will also add no one is expecting his kids to run the gamut of banks of photographers. But people are legitimately interested in seeing photos of William’s children, especially Louis, at regular intervals

What's really depressing on an otherwise excellent thread has been the sense of entitlement to private spaces and times. Yes, some of it's been light hearted but a lot isn't.

It's a private 70th birthday party. The public aren't paying for anything but security and even if he abdicated there would still be the need for the security.

Yes we want to see pretty dresses but the vitriolic hyperbole and sense they owe it to fulfil our nosiness (exactly as we demand) is the same entitled behaviour that saw a child witness his mother being called a whore for a picture or someone breaking into his school or taping private phones.

So have a private birthday party then. Don't mention the bloody thing all over the press. Security would have been through the roof. It was the largest collection of Royals since K&W's wedding. One photo was all it would take.
It's similar to the Diplomatic reception. Which is really a state issue. Again no photos. They need to learn that it isn't all one way with the press

Just like the group shot they did for Charles 70th, they should do one each year. They all get seen, William gets Charles being more grandfatherly. We get to see the kids; including baby Sussex more often. Job done.

They did give us a photo before heading to the event. The heir to the throne / birthday boy and his wife in their Sunday best. But, it's not the picture we wanted ....

I agree with Becles. Charles had an official engagement during the day of his birthday and they released those lovely photos of him and his family. He and Camilla had an official photo taken before the party. I think it's fair enough to have a private party for his guests. I'd have liked to see some of the clothes but there are lots of other occasions to see how they are dressed and comment upon it.

Re The Mitfords. If anyone hasn't read it The Mitford Girls by Nancy S Lovell is a good read. I met Debo in her latter years and she was a lovely woman; warm, friendly and down to earth but very posh. I'd love to have met Nancy.

Also worth a read is the book Letters Between Sisters. It is the letters the sisters sent each other. The Mitfords were great letter writers and gives a real insight into their personalities and private lives.

If you want attractive royals then the king and queen of Bhutan are probably the best looking royal couple around year days. Even this photo looks like the cover of an epic romance novel.

@BigGreenOlives Thanks for that link. I didn't realise king Juan Carlos attended. He doesn't look well at all, does he? He just be at least 10 years younger than the DoE but looks very frail these days.

Here is a (former) Royal not everyone will know. The Countess of Frederiksborg, Prince Joachim’s first wife and mother of his elder sons.
She was on the Danish Civil list, technically for life, but in 2020; when her youngest turns 18; she has refused to receive it

Oh yes familiar with the Bhutan royals, they had some beautiful photos shared during their wedding (let me see if I can find the link) and of course during W+K’s tour

I think that keeping Louis out of the public eye is appropriate, once William is King he’ll be third in line to the throne & insignificant.

I wonder whether they didn’t release a photo of the Cambridges & Sussexes so as not to take the shine off PC who did release a photo for his 70th.

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I find Alexandra fascinating too! She's still on excellent terms with Queen Margarethe and the rest of the family and got to keep a lot of her jewellery in the divorce too. I always felt she was too clever for Joachim, who comes across as a bit dim and apparently cheated on her.

Her oldest son (can't remember if it's Felix or Nikolai) is now a model but unlike a lot of royal models (ahem, Olympia of Greece) is actually very striking.

That photo of Kate with Queen Jetsun is lovely, but still the nude heels with that traditional outfit!
