Thank you

Gabriella Windsor has also worn the Diana / Catherine Walker dress. (I don’t think it was yesterday though)

It was basically in response to user that our own children are all risk too, which is true. On the other hand lots of very dangerous people and groups are constantly trying to find ways to hurt the RF, there’s no denying it. Imagine knowing your young children are the focus of other people’s desire to do harm.

Then Wiliam has probably experienced a lot more than we know in terms of his privacy being invaded. For example the huge phone tapping scandal involving the News of the World exploded because the police discovered William’s phone has been tapped. You can hardly blame him for being paranoid. He is still very open and relaxed when chatting to the rest of us, so if anything I think he dealt with a lot of stress around the media pretty well.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/11/2018 20:18

She is Porchey's daughter. Her husband is the Queen's racing manager

I think that's WAS the Queen's racing manager - he died on the memorable date of 9/11

Some wonder if the Queen's comment at the memorial service about "grief being the price we pay for love" was about more than just the terrorist atrocity ...

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/11/2018 20:20

I think William wants the monarchy to revert back to the times of Queen Victoria, not seen and not heard unless it’s in their interests but still want all the massive privileges the role provides at our expense. I think it was Victoria’s son who changed the face of the monarchy with walkabouts, meeting the people etc as he realised if they did not change they would become obsolete. I think the royal family need to be very careful because if they do return to the ivory tower attitude I don’t think they will survive, why would the people tolerate being thrown crumbs from a table that we fund?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 20:37

An example of what can happen if you open yourself up too much to the media.
Apparently, as Andrew was in the Navy, they only spent 40 days a year together for the first 5 years of their marriage.

Laiste · 15/11/2018 20:38

Everyone has their own personal opinion of what (if anything) constitutes value for money when it comes to the RF. How much of themselves they owe 'us', ect.

Interesting that even here on a mild mannered thread about their fashion inevitably every few pages the debate about their validity rises up again.

if they do return to the ivory tower attitude I don’t think they will survive Personally i think i agree. However i know a good few people who would happily doff caps to an 'ivory tower' RF. Mostly older generation, tbf.

I do think there's a little bit of truth in what 7salmons said. I remember William explaining about how weird he found it when they came to see the flowers at KP after Diana's death, with people pawing at them and crying for this woman they didn't know, as if they had a right to share his very private grief. And I can understand his point entirely, but I also think that it coloured his view of the public.

PawneeParksDept · 15/11/2018 20:41

@beanaseireann

It's inexact but if you google it in relation to her time at Jigsaw it will probably come up

BagelGoesWalking · 15/11/2018 20:43

Spudlet Ermagerd, that was close! I might have had to interact with DH 😱

Always makes me smile when I see it!

I was thinking how alone Meghan is now. New country, left behind her friends, mother, co-workers. Can't talk about all her interests like she used to, only on a few choreographed occasions. Can't say anything provocative or challenging, can't swear, be in a bad mood, cancel any engagement ever, has to spend so much time with people she'll never meet again. Has to be careful of any new friendships so they're probably "picked" from a very narrow range of society. Eugggh, must be awful, however much you're in lurrrrve. It's a very weird way to spend your life, even with the obvious advantages of wealth and status, you can't really enjoy it, swig a few bottles of champagne and really let your hair down.

PawneeParksDept · 15/11/2018 20:45

I read somewhere Harry and Meghan are shortly to holiday with both the Obamas and Clooneys. I don't think she's short of friends.

user1457017537 · 15/11/2018 20:45

Well I think the public were responding to the shock of Princess Diana’s death and the manner in which she died. They were also showing their feelings regarding the way his mother was treated by the Royal family. He seems to have a distain for ordinary people as well if this is true.

Will get back to fashion and jewellery now.

TipseyTorvey · 15/11/2018 20:46

Got popcorn and a nice glass of sancerre. Settling in ready to play. I'm stilll hoping some sneaky people got pics of last night.

UrsulaPandress · 15/11/2018 20:46

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 20:46

Ooh where did you hear that @Pawnee.
Is that all 3 couples together?

Newspeak · 15/11/2018 20:47

What do we have to do to get an invite to that holiday ! Grin

PawneeParksDept · 15/11/2018 20:48

Yes all 3 couples it was in the Mail @CurlyWurlyTwirly

I do agree there are many valid reasons for William's in particular reluctance and dislike for aspects of royal life. What both William and Harry went through the divorce, death, funeral and more at such a young age is unimaginable and I'm sure life changing. It couldn't fail to alter their views on many things.

I think the public acknowledge that and there has been a great amount of sympathy and good will for the Princes over the years. However while no one wants to go back to the height of the frenzy (or even close) they are adults now and I think unless things change it will at the least be a very difficult time for royals and at worst the end of the Monarchy. They should be working to find a middle ground and that takes effort on the both parts. I think Harry to a bigger extent understands that and it is reflected in his popularity at the moment. William seems to be far more reluctant and I think this will be a growing problem for him as time goes on and he moves up in the line of succession.

PawneeParksDept · 15/11/2018 20:55

Harry is on the record as saying none of them wants the Top Job. In many ways it's a thankless task in which you have to sacrifice your personhood and become a property.

RainbowsArePretty · 15/11/2018 20:55

💖 the title 😂

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 21:10

It’s just a dinner during Michelle’s book tour. ( I would still like to eavesdrop).
Hopefully Michelle will wear some nice outfits

Batteriesallgone · 15/11/2018 21:11

I like that blue dress Kate was wearing to the BBC. I would like it if she wore stuff that was a bit more bf friendly though.

I kind of hope Meghan goes a bit Earth mother with her style when she has her baby - lots of wrap dresses. And I can see Harry babywearing Grin

RosinaAlmaviva · 15/11/2018 21:22

I remember William explaining about how weird he found it when they came to see the flowers at KP after Diana's death, with people pawing at them and crying for this woman they didn't know, as if they had a right to share his very private grief.

It must have been very difficult for him to deal with. However, feeling an emotional connection to someone you only know through the media is the very foundation of the monarchy. If that connection fails, the monarchy's days are numbered.

It could be worse. Early modern royals were expected to eat, get up and go to bed in public. The balustrades in front of the beds at Versailles were intended as a form of crowd control, since as many as 60 people might show up to watch Marie Antoinette get dressed every morning. There were dozens of people in her bedroom the first time she gave birth, and it was so crowded that she passed out for lack of oxygen. She would consider the life of our current RF a haven of privacy by comparison.

Kate and the paps: yes, she was pursued relentlessly before her marriage, and not only in the street, they chased her in her car. She once pulled over and asked them to stop as it was dangerous and they said if she didn't like it she should stop dating William. Sorry no link as I read it in some royal bio, can't find which but if I do, I'll post the reference.

In other news, I'm pretty sure I caught a glimpse of Princess Anne today! Being driven up Tottenham Court Road. Unfortunately I can't find anything in the Court Circular to confirm where she was today.
