Those are lovely clips of HM. She's got a lovely sense of humour, and I like the relationship with her mum. I saw a patient this afternoon who worked for a jeweller that cleaned and reconditioned some of the royal baubles!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 19:55

French visit to Belgium continues
I like both outfits as they represent each woman's style
However Mathilde does look like she has been teleported from the 1950s

CP Mary today
Love the proportions of the cropped chanel-esque jacket with the black poloneck and Flared pants. Fab. So wearable and chic

Can I say that these threads have been great for me taking my mind off my real life issues. Thank you

Clionba · 20/11/2018 20:04

CP Mary - always so elegant and chic. She seems to have a complete aura of calm about her as well.
Not sure about Mathilde in the grey. Brigitte - if you're that cold, put a coat on!

RosinaAlmaviva · 20/11/2018 20:06

When the Queen was young ladies were not supposed to remove their gloves before shaking hands.

At garden parties usually only Princess Anne is wearing white gloves, other than the Queen. I kind of wish white gloves would come back because I have a vintage pair (French, 1950s deadstock) which I'd love to wear more often.

CrookedMe · 20/11/2018 20:08

See, Mary looks like someone who is aware she's part of this century, unlike our royal women who appear to be teleported in from the 40s whenever there's an event. I can't understand why it would be so terrible for them to look like the modem people they are.

We are so boring in this country in a lot of ways!

GrumbleBumble · 20/11/2018 20:19

To be fair on Anne she hasn't said she won't shake hands because she'll catch "common". She said in a walk about situation you can't possibly shake everyone's hand so it's fairer to shake no one's. The flaw to that logic is you can't possibly speak to everyone so....

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 20:21

Interesting. Prince Harry is going to Zambia on Monday & Tuesday for the Commonwealth

user1457017537 · 20/11/2018 20:22

Curlywurlytwirly Mathilde looks a bit “Call the Midwife”

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 20:23

Yes @CrookedMe, I totally agree! Mary looks chic and modern, as does Letizia. Both women dress appropriately for their roles without being in the least staid.

And look at Rania - she has to deal with probably the most conservative dress code of all the royal women but she always looks incredibly stylish and and never feels the need to upend a neck pillows and wear it on her head!

She does @user1457017537, it's the red beret!

I love that clip of the Queen and the QM! It's nice to hear the interaction between them. The Queen has a feisty side I think - I was so amused to see her response to Annie Leibowitz asking her to take her crown off to look less formal! 'What do you think all this is for then?' she asked waspishly, pointing to her robes.

Clionba · 20/11/2018 20:26

I agree about Letizia and Rania. They both seem to have more of a "business wear" approach, which is more modern. You often see Leti in trouser suits, or blouse and skirt, often mid range price, nothing fancy. She mixes and matches on repeats as well. Rania navigates the more conservative dress code very effectively.

SilentIsla · 20/11/2018 20:27

Neck pillows? 🤫

desertgirl · 20/11/2018 20:59

A lot of handshaking can get very painful apparently; don’t blame people for wanting to avoid it and not because of germs - not everyone shakes gently, for a start.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 21:25

I think there is a technique for a royal handshake, so that the other side cannot get too firm a grip. The Queen doesn't shake either does she'?

VanillaSugary · 20/11/2018 21:38

Have you seen the Queen shake hands? She grabs the hand and then shoves the hand back to the person so that she doesn't have to stay too long. She even did it to Prince Michael of Kent Grin

halfwitpicker · 20/11/2018 21:41

I'm not a royalist but I'm a fashonista (hate that word)

Not mutually exclusive terms

VanillaSugary · 20/11/2018 21:44

Thank you @itswinetime !!'n

mikado1 · 20/11/2018 22:03

If the Queen became the Queen Mother when her husband died, dies that mean that Kate will become the King Mother?! And if so she'll be KM again.... Written in the stars!! 😁

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 22:06

Lol no, the Queen part of the title refers to yourself rather than your child, if you know what I mean. Otherwise the DoE would become the King Father if he outlived HM!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 22:08

Also the only reason she became the QM was because the Dowager Queen (Mary) was still alive!

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/11/2018 22:08

I think the QM became the Queen Mother as otherwise there would have been two Queen Elizabeth's at the same time.
Also I heard that the QM didn't want to be called the Dowager Queen as it sounded so old!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 20/11/2018 22:09

Also the Queen & QM were both named Elizabeth
