Found you all! I've been away from MN for a few days and as usual had trouble getting signed back in. Anyway, I can't believe how quickly this thread is filling up already! My tuppence worth.....I agree that Meghan's outfit was a miss, I think the skirt was too long, and it didn't need the waistband or the halter neck. She's at that awkward in between stage though, so maybe in a few weeks when the bump is more of a bump she'll hit her stride. At least she doesn't seem to be suffering with being pregnant in the same way as Kate did, she certainly looks radiant.

I'd love to know the real story about Charlene and Albert, she rarely looks happy and the tears she cried through her wedding really didn't look like tears of joy. Maybe the 'curse of the Grimaldis' is true, I forget who and when but the Grimaldis were cursed so that none would find true happiness in marriage.

Right, best get the kids organised, and I'll catch up on the thread properly later. Ooh, I've remembered what else I was going to say.....following the comments about Meghan's waving etc....and that was I'm glad she hasn't adopted the same awkward hand clasp that someone taught Kate in the early days....that used to really bug me because it really looked strange, a very awkward way to hold your hands, I'll try and find a picture in a bit, so I much prefer the wave!

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 08:15

There were stories about Charlene trying to escape before the wedding but being stopped at the airport and having her passport confiscated, but if she's been back to South Africa since then they're probably untrue.

One look that has looked wonderful on Meghan are trouser suits. They might not be the best shape while pregnant but Diana really made the '80s power suit her own with fabulous colours and at times, a matching hat.

Maybe Meghan could find the right shapes and designers to create some flattering suits for her with skirts and trousers that had the sophistication French vibe that she likes. Every suit I have seen her in has looked fantastic and she has looked so comfortable and confident. I so wish she would talk to Vogue (maybe even French Vogue) or similar and ditch the advice from her Canadian best friend. She needs to branch out. We can see the sophistication look she's reaching for, and sometimes she hits in beautifully.

I agree that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy is an icon that comes to mind. Meghan needs a designer who would be a young version of Ann Lowe to help her.

IdaBWells · 20/11/2018 08:30

Ann Lowe ( who designed Jackie Kennedy's wedding dress)

Paradyng Perhaps

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 08:54

@frugalkitty Agree, she is looking utterly radiant. Her outfit might've not been the best last night but her face is never less than stunning, and her makeup is very well done. Apart from an occasional excess of highlighter, she (or her makeup artist) seems to have mastered the natural look. Which, as we all knows, takes a lot of products and is anything but natural!

Agree Queen. Her make up is immaculate.
I also love the way that Charlene can rock a red lip!

ElspethFlashman · 20/11/2018 09:06

I was just on Instagram on that account Europe.monarchies_ someone linked before, and there's a video of MMs arrival.

It's fascinating. Firstly, all the photos of her waving at the crowd so hated by DM commentators? It was one quick half-wave, approximately 1 second long.

It shows you how misleading photos can be. I thought she must have been waving a fair bit but nope. It also shows why Kate never ever waves at all, hands firmly clamped in front of her - a single wave and she'd be all over the DM looking like a cheerleader. Its quite the lesson MM has to learn.

Secondly, her hair really was bugging her. Between the car and the entrance she must have put it behind her ears 6 times. It just kept flopping back in her face and she'd have to tuck it again. It would drive me insane. If its that floppy, why keep choosing that style? Whyyyy? Why not just use a shit load of hairspray and glue it into obedience? If I was a Royal my hair would be a flipping helmet, lol.

mmmgoats · 20/11/2018 09:59

I think it's a really interesting problem for her - the transition from Hollywood to Royal - and unfortunately, she has a whole audience while she tries to get a handle on it.
Of course stylists etc should be on the fitting/tailoring/hems etc, but her array of choices so far does make me think she's trying things to see what works.
Agree with pp who said she was trying to show off her arms/shoulders in her latest outfit as the rest of her probably feels quite alien and constantly changing due to pregnancy.

Her skin/face looks absolutely glowing - I think whatever her outfit/hair choice her make up always looks put together.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 10:13

Re her hair, it could be the weather playing havoc with it. What might've looked fine at her dressing table in Kensington Palace, may have become unruly and frizz central by the time she got to the Albert Hall. I know the feeling!

I can't get frothy about the waving. I think it's a nice touch to wave to the crowds. God knows they were there to see her and Harry so that's the least they could've done.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 10:15

Thé obvious transition from Hollywood to Royalty was Grace Kelly
It was however the 1950s and Grace already had the ladylike style so it wasn’t such a stretch

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 10:17

Thé waving is fine. She always gives the press their shot.
That’s the red carpet training and understanding how the media works.
In another years time; the baby will be born and she won’t be doing all these events for the first time. Meghan will have nailed it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/11/2018 10:41

Not necessarily - after all she's produced the much needed "heir and spare" now, so to Albert it perhaps matters less where she is

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 10:41

Ré: the housing situation, it would appear that the Sussexes want to [[https://www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a25207424/meghan-markle-prince-harry-moving-house-kensington-palace/ base themselves in Oxfordshire and keep Nottingham Cottage as their London pied à terre.

That would make lot more sense as she will be near soho farmhouse when she has a newborn. It’s also where Doria has been staying on her uk visits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 10:51

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 10:58

Sorry link fail
It was Harper’s Bazaar for once!

However, it seems highly unlikely they are going to stay in a 2 bedroom house with a nanny etc. However much they would like to « keep it real»
Having a baby abroad, can be pretty isolating. At least Meghan can have friends co e and visit without too many people knowing. I guess the whole Soho House ethos is discretion.

owlshooting · 20/11/2018 11:03

Re the waving - I just think it looks a bit 'look at me folks. I've arrived,' rather than acknowledging that she's there to do a job as part of the The Firm, and it's not all about her. I accept though it's a habit she's acquired as an actress. She just doesn't seem to understand the unspoken rules.
I can't think of a single other Royal who waves to the crowd quite like that.

owlshooting · 20/11/2018 11:05

The choice to rent at Soho House is probably a way of avoiding the stifling atmosphere and staff at the Royal residences I would guess, and making them feel a bit more like normal people. Also if Doria visits, she probably feels more comfortable there.

AhoyDelBoy · 20/11/2018 11:19

Happy 71st Wedding Anniversary to HMQ & PP Shock 71 years!? Absolutely amazing really. And married after only four months together!

TSSDNCOP · 20/11/2018 11:24

It’s just waving. People have queued for yonks in the rain to see her. Acknowledging their presence is good manners.

YearOfYouRemember · 20/11/2018 11:30

The wedding was four months after they became engaged, not after meeting. They met when the Queen was a teenager.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 11:31

@AhoyDelBoy I think they'd known each other for much longer though - they'd met as teenagers. He must've been considered quite an unsuitable match, given his parents and who his sisters had married, but Elizabeth had her heart set on him!

Sorry, yes I read that wrong Blush

AhoyDelBoy · 20/11/2018 11:35

For some reason my DP seems sure HMQ and PP share a grandparent Hmm I don’t know where he got that from!? He also insists, jokingly, that I will never know more about the RF than him (which is probably true).

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 11:36

They don't, but they have a common ancestor in Queen Victoria. I think they're third cousins with some degree of removal, probably related in more ways than one given all the intermarrying!
