Apologies, back to S&B!

AhoyDelBoy · 20/11/2018 03:41

veggie_mama on instagram has a good story at the moment about all the click bait Royal stories. She’s good to follow as I often see new photos on her page first.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 03:59

Just for comparison, this is William and Kate arriving last year at the same event. Kate was at a similar stage of pregnancy

Because Kate has a different body type, I think she got away with non maternity style dresses for longer. It’s Meghans first pregnancy and she’s also doing these Royal engagements for the first time, so won’t be sure where to pitch her formality of dress.
I guess she didn’t do that many red carpet events in a Toronto, (as opposed to LA) as her red carpet dressing style is definitely pitched towards warmer weather styles.

I think the busy pattern is Meghan trying to disguise her bump a bit.
She’s worn strapless 3 times in a week. Her arms and shoulders look great; so who wouldn’t show then off. However, as she has always had a great, yoga toned figure, I think her bump is throwing her and she’s trying to emphasise the parts of her figure which have not changed whilst pregnant, iyswim

The DoS needs to get a decent stylish pronto. I am a similar shape to her albeit shorter and it is certainly a harder shape to dress than the DoC.

But she could get access to amazing stylists who would really help her. And lordy, how cold must she have been?

mathanxiety · 20/11/2018 05:42

I am going to disagree with just about everyone on MM's outfit for the Royal Variety show. I think it was great.

Belts or empire waist-level ribbons on pregnant women are very in right now, at least in the US - if two pg women on local tv where I am are anything to go by. One is a meteorologist and one a roving reporter.

After living in Toronto it's possible she doesn't consider London weather too bad even in November.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 20/11/2018 05:45

But she often wears a trench coat when it isn't that cold.

I just think the outfit was a miss but do appreciate it is hard to dress for a rapidly changing body. But that is why she needs to get a stylist who checks how outfits photograph as well.

mathanxiety · 20/11/2018 05:56

Trench coats are really, really in too.

VanillaSugary · 20/11/2018 06:25

Um, Toronto gets cold too @mathanxiety ....

Paradyning · 20/11/2018 06:29

@beanaseireann are you thinking it looks like a trachy scar?

owlshooting · 20/11/2018 06:31

Apologies to those who feel the thread has been a bit derailed from the clothes. I take it on board.
Re Diana, yes her maternity wear was very much of the time, and she was a trend setter. I was just saying that looking back now, some of the outfits looked truly awful in retrospect! It just shows how our tastes have changed over time.

Paradyning · 20/11/2018 06:52

Thanks for the link to the Michelle Obama evening wear. She is an amazing woman. I adore the dark sparkly gown with shedloads of necklaces. She is so elegant.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 06:55

When diana was pregnant, there wasn't much lycra if at all in clothes. I think pregnant women wore a lot of smocks and dungarees. She made pregnancy very stylish. For the time

mathanxiety · 20/11/2018 06:57

Yes, that's what I am saying, Vanilla - Toronto makes London weather feel like milquetoast.

Staringcoat · 20/11/2018 07:08

Lovely pics on this thread Smile (Although I must admit I share the uneasiness of pp's about the extravagance.)

Just popped in to say that despite being a plump, menopausal fright, I am chuffed that I have been unknowingly channelling Brigitte Macron all these weeks by having non-matching buttons on my coat. Grin.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 07:10

Meghan pre Duchess red carpet trends

I thinks it's just part of the entertainment industry to wear quite a lot of skin revealing outfits. Meghan has great legs, so for then, the short skirts were a no brainer.

She needs a stylist to do some research and put together some lookbooks for her. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Jackie Onassis, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn. There were some fantastically well dressed high profile American women. That style aesthetic seems less fussy than the European one. But I'm sure a good stylist could easily find British Designers and high street shops to reproduce those looks.
I also.think Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow have a sleek paired down style which would suit Meghan.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 07:13

'Meghan's perfume' in case anyone was interested !

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 07:15

I.thought Brigitte Macron's buttons were mismatched too. However on closer inspection they were just super shiny and reflecting off the red carpet etc!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 07:22

Royal ladies at the Monaco.Gala. Meghan should have worn Caroline's dress (without gloves & sash; but a diamond bracelet and chignon.) Its Stella McCartney ! No smiles again.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 20/11/2018 07:22

Meghan is finding her way from Hollywood star to a member of the RF. they are very different roles & require different clothing choices. I’m sure she’ll eventually find her way.

Last nights was a miss but she’s not been doing her new job for long. Who can hand on heart say they got everything right all of the time in their new job.

I certainly didn’t!

Staringcoat · 20/11/2018 07:23

Oh shame Curlywurly ! That's my last pretensions to stylishness washed down the drain! Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/11/2018 07:25

French Belgian state visit.
I think Mathilde looks amazing. Not so keen on Brigitte's high waist line

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 07:27

That's almost a smile from Caroline there but Charlene looks miserable, as always. I can't imagine Albert is much fun, though the twins are adorable.

And oh Andrea, what happened?? He used to be gorgeous but now looks seedy and in need of a good wash!

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 07:29

Mathilde does look good there and, as you all know, I'm not a fan of her usual matronly style.

Clionba · 20/11/2018 07:42

Mathilde looks stunning. That dress! Her hairdresser gets full marks as well!
I'm not a fan of Brigitte Macron's style. She often wears quite rigid, unflattering cuts, but I'm probably in the minority here.
Caroline of Hanover looks good in red. I do not know what's happened to her son. He does look like he's sleeping rough.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/11/2018 07:49

Just a reminder of what Andrea Casiraghi used to look like...
