I can't keep up! The new thread is only a couple of hours old and there are already 100+ posts!

Speaking as an apple shape, the great thing about pregnancy, is once you look properly pregnant, ( rather than just a bit podgy) you can totally embrace pregnancy dressing as your hips, arms and legs stay fairly slim in comparison.

I think Meghan is slightly in denial about pregnancy dressing as she is still trying to wear belted outfits. She’s good to be at least 16 / 17 weeks so maybe once she feels the flutterings she will start dressing properly pregnant.

kooshbin · 11/11/2018 22:45

Anne has a lot of honorary military titles.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne,_Princess_Royal#Honorary_military_appointments

The princes have ridden horses in the procession for the Trooping of the Colour for years. I recall, quite some years ago, that Princess Anne put her foot down and insisted on riding a horse, rather going in a carriage. Not surprising, really, given that she was probably better at controlling a horse in those circumstances than her brothers.

TheCraicDealer · 11/11/2018 22:46

Even growing up in the UK as opposed to the US, you'd have a vastly greater sense of what the royal family actually do and the "expectations" that the public have from the off. The royals aren't celebrities but figureheads and have to act accordingly and often do a lot of boring stuff you don't want to do. You might be wearing a nice dress and hat but still doesn't change that the public's expectations and opinions will control your life to a considerable extent. I think for someone like Meghan who has had a lot of control over her own life and choices up until this marriage (and been very successful), that will become a source of friction over time. Hopefully if/when that does become an issue it won't be too long before she and Harry will be allowed more freedom as focus is directed towards the Cambridges.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 22:48

Such a shame that they banned primogeniture so recently in the RF.
I would love to have seen Anne take her place as 2 oldest child.
We wouldn’t have had all this nonsense about the Blood Princesses.
Speaking of which, why do Bea & Euj not get involved in Remembrance Sunday?

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 22:49

I just wish someone would whisper in Meghan’s ear “Maybe next time for the Givenchy... what about this lovely Stella number?”

But lovely Stella numbers are few and far between - a lot of her designs are awful! Whereas Givenchy...well it's no surprise the label was a favourite of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.

Yes, these threads do move fast.

I'm only here for the gossip. Grin

I can't really offer any comment on clothing/style, though I do like reading about it.

CoachBombay · 11/11/2018 22:51

Curly that's a good point, don't think I've ever seen either of them? Maybe it's because they are so removed from the Crown now, I don't know? Just a guess.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 22:51

@CurlyWurlyTwirly A prior engagement like the opening of an envelope??Grin

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 22:53

Speaking of which, why do Bea & Euj not get involved in Remembrance Sunday?

I think it's to do with the whole 'working' royals idea Bea and Euj aren't working royals and therefore like Anne's children they don't reall attend royal events like today. Practically speaking though isn't Bea living in the US these days?

kooshbin · 11/11/2018 22:57

I agree, TheCraicDealer. Kate might not have been preparing for royalty, but she would have had at least a basic idea when she and Wills started dating what her possible future life could be like. It's a bit difficult to be oblivious of the royal family on ceremonial duty unless never watching the news.

Meghan, if she was aware at all of the RF, will have only got the edited highlights via the US media.

The whole Remembrance Sunday must have been quite a different experience for her.

Newspeak · 11/11/2018 23:01

Thank goodness I found you guys thought I had lost you for a minute there is no link at the end of the old thread!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 23:01

I don’t believe for a second that Beatrice has a job. On PRince Andrew’s website, it says she works “in business”. Wtaf does that mean.

Even Eugenie has one of those “fun” jobs in an art gallery.

I do however wonder where Andrew’s money comes from. The Queen has the civil list and subsidises some of her “poorer” relatives like the Kents.
However even if Andrew is on say £300-400k pa from the civil list, that is nowhere near enough to support; Fergie, Bea, Euj and their holidays and frocks at 5 grand a pop.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 11/11/2018 23:01

@QueenOfTheAndals of course re Stella Grin

Meghan just needs to bear in mind that EVERYTHING she does is scrutinised, and constantly picking the likes of Givenchy to wear when her SIL is dusting off an old coat (even if it is McQueen...) will not make for a favourable contrast.

mikado1 · 11/11/2018 23:03

Re Kate's eyeliner...Am I allowed to ask - why is it so bad?! I rarely wear it and my eyes could do with some definition and sleep so how should i apply it? The barest of outlines?

mmmgoats · 11/11/2018 23:07

@pawneeparksdept please direct me to your house of cards thread so i can join the moaning!

Had a panic when i went to post and last thread was closed. Probably behind now but:

I like Kate’s Tudor headband hats I think they really suit her and set her apart from other royals in terms of headwear. Love that green coat on her - isn’t it her Anne of Green Gables that she’s worn before? Maybe she read everyone on MN referring to it as meghan green and decided to remind us she wore it first Grin

Don’t love Meghan’s outfit - she looks beautiful as always but i think she’s still struggling to find her stride with pregnancy outfits.

Agree there’s been a change in tone from K&W. Change is surely afoot.

Shame about Phillip hope his health isn’t too bad.

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 23:08

@CurlyWurlyTwirly when I say 'working' royals I don't mean in that they supposedly hold down a job, I meant that they aren't paid/subsidised to carry out engagements on behalf of the queen they may attend events like trooping of the colour but they aren't official representatives of HRH if you see what I mean.

Andrews financial situation is indeed a mystery give that he has reportedly bailed fergie out multiple times as well.

kooshbin · 11/11/2018 23:11

mikado1 - I'm old, so this might not apply to someone of Kate's age, but a beautician told me that eyeliner the full length of the upper lid is ok, but only the outer quarter length of the lower lid. The idea was that full length on the lower lid "closes up" the eye which doesn't work well on tired eyes or old eyes. No idea if that's true, but it seems to work for me.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 23:11

@mikado1 I think the key is to go easy on eyeliner under the eye if you're tired, as a thick line will just enhance that.

@itswinetime

I know what you mean about working royals. I was just commenting generally that Bea & Euj are not working royals and are generally barely working at all.

Anyway, the Queen has pots of money we don’t know about.
She’s the second largest landowner in France ( after Albert of Monaco).
All her grown children, apart from Charles, will be subsidised by her.

ElspethFlashman · 11/11/2018 23:17

Remember when M said that in their first date she and Harry talked about the changes they'd like to make in the world? And how you have to be the change you'd like to see, or whatever?

I'd love to ask her, how's that working out for you, love?

Oh I'm sure she'll set up some Foundation or whatever. But I don't think she had a bloody clue how little she would be allowed to do or say.

She's going to be Marie to Crown Princess Mary essentially.

Moononthehill28 · 11/11/2018 23:17

I loved TM ‘s outfit this evening!
I think MM wears far too much highlighter but otherwise her make up is great.
Kate’s makeup is too severe and the eyebrows too overdone.
M seems to be wearing her hair less messily these days and is generally looking more groomed. I rarely think her clothes look great though.
