There are some really interesting articles on the RF on the daily beast. For example, one piece talks about how William hates the press so much that he (and subsequently Kate) often make choices that make life harder for the journos and photogs trying to cover them - eg keeping as much of their plans a secret til the very last minute, never looking directly at a camera and getting out the opposite side of the car from where the cameras are, even at a public event. It said that Harry used to follow suit, although a bit less however Meghan takes a very different approach - she will give a wave from the car on approaching, will get out and look and smile at the cameras and (although the RF aren’t allowed to pose for the press) she will ‘hover’ to make sure they all get their shot.

The article didn’t frame this as ‘attention seeing celeb wanting her photo taken’ but rather that she appreciates that they have a job to do and a mortgage to pay and is happy to make their lives easier if she can.
Similarly, she and Harry announced really early last year that they would be with the Queen for Christmas (and the same this year with her Mother there too) which meant that the journos could write their pieces in plenty of time, rather than a manic scrabble at the last minute when they should be going home to Christmas with their own families.
It said that she seems to be bringing Harry around to her approach more now too.

I don’t know how this squares with the current negative press about staffing but I thought it was a really interesting insight.

Meghans make up is very heavy handed the amount of blusher and shiny highlighter she wears is over the top. I think Kate’s is more classic I don’t know why she gets so much stick for it, and I don’t think Kate is 5ft 10 she Does not look as tall as Princess Diana who was 5ft 10 I’m thinking more 5ft 8.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 23:19

I just thought Kate’s McQueen outfit today was so sharp, that it instantly made everything in her wardrobe look dated.
Unfortunately, because she is frugal, she will have to keep ekin

ElspethFlashman · 11/11/2018 23:19

By the way if someone can point me towards these pics of Kate 'avin' ay faaaaag, I'd be very nosy grateful.

All I can find is that one photo of some cigarettes in her bag from about 10 years ago. That's not very interesting, I mean we all smoked 10 years ago!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 23:20

*eking out her coat dresses. ( posted too soon)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 23:23

@elspeth
I’m in France and have googled, there are no photos which pop up.
Although some of the sites tend to mention that she has a bit of a puff when Pippa has been to visit, and she increased smoking in the run up to her wedding due to stress.
So it sounds like she is an occasional smoker

ElspethFlashman · 11/11/2018 23:25

I'm starting to wonder if it's all bollocks and she hasn't smoked in years and years!

CoachBombay · 11/11/2018 23:28

I can't blame Will and Kate for wanting to keep distance between them and the press, after all they will be King and Queen and as everyone knows with regards to the press, give them an inch and they will take a mile. Nobody wants a upskirt of the futire Queen.

However with Harry and Meghan they can be more "celebrity" they don't have such an important job awaiting them.

AhoyDelBoy · 11/11/2018 23:29

She's approaching 40, a mother of three, and imo looks exactly her age.

Exactly this^ I’m really unsure what people are expecting. She’s not the bride of 2011 anymore!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 23:36

@CaptainMorgansMistress

That’s interesting about Meghan’s approach with the press. She is very media savvy and it’s a great way to control her image by making their job easier.
I can understand William not liking the press but being deliberately difficult is just immature.

FlamingJuno · 11/11/2018 23:37

CaptainMorgan I think that the real reason why some of the RF Kate, Princess Anne recycle their outfits is to deprive the photographers of new pics. A new outfit means a new, valuable pic, where an old one doesn't generate quite as much interest.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/11/2018 23:53

What hit me today was that this was probably MM's first British Remembrance Sunday. Her very first one. And look how she spent it. I think she's doing just fine.

CoachBombay · 11/11/2018 23:53

Flamingo true! No fancy new dress no.famcy new pic!

Also if I were Kate I'd also make their jobs harder after being branded 'Waity Kaity"' and other names!

BlingLoving · 11/11/2018 23:54

This moves too fast!!

To respond to earlier comments 're kate, nannies ext, I don't understand this theory that kate is not an engaged mum. Of course she has help and it's unlikely she is coming down from putting the kids to b3d only to realise there are still three loads of washing to do and a lounge that looks like a bomb site but that doesn't mean she's sitting around at the spa leaving others to raisrnher children.

Honestly, if anyone on this thread were rich as shit, would you suddenly stop wanting to be involved? I'd ditch as much of the drudge work as possible but not the part where I actually spend time with my children and play my role as their mother.

Butterymuffin · 11/11/2018 23:56

Re the Royals and their debts / costs, wasn't the Queen Mother supposed to have owed a lot at her death? Presume HM paid it off if so!
And on Meghan's style - as well as the monochrome simple styles, the other variant is the loose fitting patterned floral dresses she's worn at times, which IMO have been much less successful (guessing it's not those the investment bankers are copying as a pp said). Her less severe styles on the tour down under were better, though.

kooshbin · 12/11/2018 00:29

Thinking about Coach's and Captain's comments, I've always assumed that that photo of Kate's dress billowing up was photoshopped, though there must have been a photographer stationed exactly so to get the original photo.

Yet more reason for Will wanting to keep a distance from the media. Too much money is gleefully made by the paparazzi and salacious individuals, with zero respect for the people whose lives they invade.

It must be difficult to schedule into what's supposed to be an ordinary, private day, the likelihood of being papped.

SenecaFalls · 12/11/2018 00:49

I usually like historical references in modern fashion, but I am not fond of the Anne Boleyn French hood headdresses that Kate has adopted lately.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 12/11/2018 01:07

I just don’t understand them Seneca. Are they a hair accessory or a fascinator or what? Too big and chunky to be a hair piece, if you ask me.

Bloominglovely · 12/11/2018 01:21

Kate went through a short phase of wearing Alice bands too. I like to imagine she was messing around and tried one of Charlotte’s bands, some yes person arrived on the scene and admired it and she thought she’d let everyone else admire it too by wearing it in public! Everyone thought WTF and she must have realised herself that they were more suited to Charlotte’s age and returned them to Charlotte.

SenecaFalls · 12/11/2018 01:21

I think that might be it, Hearts. I usually know exactly why I like or don't like something, but can't quite explain what it is about the Anne Boleyn look I don't care for.

I can't blame Will and Kate for wanting to keep distance between them and the press, after all they will be King and Queen and as everyone knows with regards to the press, give them an inch and they will take a mile. Nobody wants a upskirt of the futire Queen.

I agree to an extent, and I certainly understand why William might dislike the press, but media attention is one of the main ways that a constitutional monarch and RF connect with people. If it is true that they intentionally try to avoid giving good shots to photographers, that strikes me as more than just a bit arrogant.

itswinetime · 12/11/2018 01:42

The headband things aren't just kate though are they Bea wore one to the wedding and I didn't like that either, I think the probably just remind me too much of the 80s velvet Alice bands not a good look.

As for the Cambridge's and the press I can understand to an extent at private occasions or when they don't want to steal peoples thunder ie friends weddings ect trying to deflect the press but at public royal events I don't see the need to make things harder than needed. Part of the job is being photographed so we can obsess over the outfits so he needs to come to terms with it fast.

That said a family memeber recently organised a charity event for one of Williams charities and they were very complementary so I don't think it's a personality issue such as arrogance more a lot of history and a somewhat understandable dislike of the press.

IdaBWells · 12/11/2018 02:28

I must be one of the very few on here that like the headbands that Kate has been wearing. I think they definitely give her a regal look and quite a unique one. As everyone is saying, she and William seem to be more aware of their destiny these days and being more solemn and serious in their public appearances. I think they are taking their cue from the Queen by being more neutral and less expressive so that they represent the Crown and are above the fray. As Charles gets closer to the throne they move more clearly into the position as next in line.

There has been lots of suggestions that Harry and Meghan will refuse royal titles for their children as Princess Anne did. The distance between the roles of the two Princes and their households will grow.

AhoyDelBoy · 12/11/2018 03:33

I like them too Ida

VanillaSugary · 12/11/2018 03:54

Just popping in to say that I once tried to copy the Middleton make up look and I ended up looking like a drag queen.
