The story of Queen Sonja and King Harald is an interesting one - they dated in secret for years and he told his father that if he couldn't marry her then he'd remain a bachelor. As he was the only heir that would've resulted in the end of the Norwegian monarchy, so his father agreed. He did have sisters so I assume women couldn't inherit the throne back then.

I've seen the picture of CP Mary but is there a link to the other Scandis? (actually I think I may have seen one with MM and Sonja - in purple?)

Batteriesallgone · 15/11/2018 12:52

I do think if you are going to have a splediforous extravagant private party that you can only afford because you are RF you need to acknowledge the responsibilities of the role - engaging with the public.

I wouldn’t say Diana was killed by the Press and paparazzi. After all no trace of any other vehicle in the tunnel at the time, which in itself I find odd. Paris would have been packed on that weekend, the last one in August.

user1457017537 · 15/11/2018 13:01

Sorry I’ve not been able to catch up, is it Charles’s 70th you are all talking about? Are there no photos at all?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 13:29

You need to go back a few pages. There’s the official one of Charles & Camilla and a few snatched shots of the others in cars

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 13:31

@Queen

You’d better start preparing the next thread!
I think we should voice our huffiness.
“We want frocks or it's off to the Tower”
You know; something reasonable like that.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/11/2018 13:31

Sorry to say it, but Diana was killed because she wasn't wearing her seatbelt. I can understand William's hostility towards the press (although it was paparazzos chasing the car, not your average royal reporter) but if she'd worn her seatbelt there's a good chance she'd have survived.

I just read that Ralph Lauren is receiving an honorary knighthood from the Queen, the first American designer to be knighted. Good for him.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 13:50

He can’t call himself Sir though can he?
A bit like Bob Geldof...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 13:51

@Queen,

I wouldn’t launch into Diana conspiracy theories.
Everyone has different opinions, and we’d need a whole other thread...

SenecaFalls · 15/11/2018 14:01

No, he won't be Sir Ralph. Only citizens of one of the Commonwealth countries can use the title.

SilentIsla · 15/11/2018 14:05

Frederick is gorgeous. Mary looks sharp.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/11/2018 14:15

@CurlyWurlyTwirly No conspiracy theories from me, just saying seatbelts are necessary!

susurration · 15/11/2018 14:25

I thought Bob Geldof is British, so does he not use Sir?

I love all of the fancy chandelier earrings.

UrsulaPandress · 15/11/2018 14:30

Thought he was Irish.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/11/2018 14:31

He uses Sir but is Irish. He may have British citizenship too, I wouldn't know.

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 15/11/2018 14:36

Geldof is an honorary knight. Does he actually use the title, or is it more than other people use it? He can put KBE after his name, but he is not entitled to be call Sir.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 14:39

I don’t think anyone would begrudge Sir Bob his title, British or not.
Can someone post a link to a Rania at the party.
The last little offering I have is the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester

The Queens Toast wasn't leaked. I saw it via the Royal Family Facebook feed, published as soon as she started speaking.

The reporter who posted Tweeted it must just follow the same Facebook feeds as I do.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/11/2018 15:04

Kate & William are at the BBC today

I am slightly cheered to see the departing guests from Charles Party

Also Meghan’s dress from Saturday night was a £50 M&S number.
I’m sure she reads this thread too.!

PawneeParksDept · 15/11/2018 15:16

Bob Geldof is Irish and has an honorary knighthood because of Live Aid, which has always been used out of respect

Minimammoth · 15/11/2018 15:17

Is anyone else fed up with the daily mail saying another ‘recycled’ dress whenever it is something that has been worn before. That’s not recycled, it’s normal wear.

PawneeParksDept · 15/11/2018 15:26

I remember Caitlin Moran writing an article about it SHE HASNT RECYCLED HER COAT, IT'S CALLED BEING NORMAL WITH A NICE COAT
