Because I love curtsies! I love the little videos she’s included. Kate looks so sweet curtsying to Prince Phillip 👑

Even grosser is that when Prince Charles was young, the Palace tried to arrange for him to have a series of "encounters" so that he was a bit more "worldly wise" Hmm

I don't know whether it actually happened in the end (I'm going to guess that someone would have said yes, for the right reward package), but the actress Amanda Barrie was one of those approached who turned the offer down.

One rule for men, another for women...

AhoyDelBoy · 07/11/2018 12:54

Yeh that is very gross Envy

YearOfYouRemember · 07/11/2018 13:07

Clionba was the brooch found?!

YearOfYouRemember · 07/11/2018 13:13

Oops new page, I see already answered. Wouldn't be surprised if someone gets on the case and by the end of the thread have solved the mystery as to whether the brooch was found Grin.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2018 13:23

I've always found the fact that Charles dated (and presumably slept with) Diana's older sister a bit gross too.

[Plans weekend trip to Sandringham] Wonder if I could train ddog to sniff out diamonds? Grin

OK, I'm bored at work so let's do some groundless communal speculation: what do you think happens when the duchesses get to borrow HM's jewellery?

I think:
There's a giant room in the basement of Windsor castle that you need to pass through at least three locked doors to reach. There's a special maid who does jewel cleaning and knows the collection backwards and a butler who thinks it's all beneath him and the duchess. You go into the room and there are huge custom-made apothecary chests built into the wall, but they're all lined with velvet. Each one has a card with proper faded copperplate writing saying what's inside, but the maid knows anyway. Everything is stored by type, then cross-referenced by stone: so necklaces: diamond; sapphire; etc.

And there's lots of candles and mirrors so you can see what things look like by candlelight.

I may have overthunk this.

One of the reasons I feel sorry for Fergie is that plenty of other Royals have been unfaithful to their spouses, some in quite calculating ways, yet she has been castigated in a way they haven't. And using the excuse that 'she got it splashed all over the press' doesn't help in my view, as that just reinforces the hypocrisy that cheating is OK if you are discreet. Philip in particular has often been mentioned as the one who was most insistent that Fergie was excluded, which seems a bit rich given the rumours about his own affairs.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2018 14:05

Did Andrew know about the affairs and not mind? He never seemed that bothered by it and they continued to live together. I never heard any stories of him cheating on her though. The Randy Andy stories were before his marriage but even then, the only previous relationship of his I heard about was Koo Stark.

I doubt PC slept with Diana’s older sister. I don’t think it would have been acceptable then if she was marriage material - don’t forget we are talking about almost 40 years ago. Things were different.

I hope PW isn’t/won’t be unfaithful. I’d feel so sad for Kate if that happens. She adores him.

ajandjjmum · 07/11/2018 15:07

TBF I was 20-ish 40 years ago, and most people were sleeping with their boyfriends at that time, although not an absolute given. Things probably weren't as differents as 'youngsters' assume! Grin

SenecaFalls · 07/11/2018 15:14

Things probably weren't as differents as 'youngsters' assume!

Exactly, otherwise Charles would have had no trouble finding a virgin of his own age. What is different is the Royal Family's attitude to such things.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 07/11/2018 15:20

Very true Seneca

owlshooting · 07/11/2018 15:41

I would be absolutely amazed if William cheated on Kate. I think they really love each other, and I don't think he would do that in a million years. Or vice versa.
Also I don't think there is any evidence he was playing the field when they split up for a couple of months. He probably wanted some space to think things over and decide if he really was in it for the long haul.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2018 15:51

I don't think either William or Harry would ever cheat on their wives. Not because they think they couldn't get away with it or because they think their wives wouldn't stand for it, but because they genuinely love them.

I just assumed Charles would've slept with Lady Sarah. He certainly seemed to have done the deed with Camilla and I don't think Princess Anne went to her marital bed a virgin either. So I think many a blind eye was turned and as long as an aristocratic young gel was careful, she could probably have a bit of pre-marital fun!

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 07/11/2018 16:09

The big difference for Charles and William was that they are responsible for producing an heir (and a spare), and therefore there must be no questions at all asked about their children, particularly the eldest. So their wives must be completely beyond suspicion / above reproach (see also Ceasar's wife...)

Remember William and Kate lived together before they got married - that was quietly revolutionary TBH. Thinking about Harry marrying a) a divorcee (and thus clearly not a virgin); b) a woman of color; c) a non-Brit... Well, that's openly revolutionary, but probably only an option for him because he is so far down the order of succession now.

RainbowsArePretty · 07/11/2018 16:19

Great videos Curly. Thanks for sharing

owlshooting · 07/11/2018 16:42

Just noticed that Isabella Branson (who supposedly William was carrying a torch for) is the half sister of Cressida Bonas! All a bit incestuous...

itswinetime · 07/11/2018 16:55

I always assumed perhaps naively that whole marry a virgin thing was more of a cover all for a girl without a past, some one with no skeletons that will come out of the closet no ex's likely to sell kiss and tells as oppose to literally a virgin! A discrete past on those kind of circles is easily hidden surely?

As for William cheating I don't want to believe it I want to believe they really love each other and that's why it works so unless any proof comes up I'm going to stick my fingers in my ears and sing loudly 🙉🙉🙉

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2018 16:56

Upper class circles aren't particularly large ones...

Lord Mountbatten was also responsible for a lot of Prince Charles' dithering. He was hugely ambitious. He already had his nephew (Prince Phillip) married to the Queen .

He wanted Charles to marry his granddaughter Amanda Knatchbull

The Royals were so concerned about appearances. If someone a bit farsighted had let Charles & Camilla marry in the first instance ; so much unhappiness could have been avoided...

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2018 17:00

Yes but then we probably wouldn't have had these threads @CurlyWurlyTwirly!!!
