• The Cambridges and Sussexes are at two Remembrance events this weekend the 10th/11th
• The Sussexes have the Royal Variety Performance on the 19th

Plus Prince Charles turns 70 on the 14th but we may not get photos of the event as he's having a private party.

Very long day for everyone.

Being American, Meghan will likely not have had a lot of tights-wearing experience.

I thought tights wearing was more common in the US, hence the "American Tan" tights that were apparently worn in the summer in offices all over the US? Then again, Meghan is from California where things might be a bit more relaxed.

Prince Philip not at the Westminster service. Not something he would want to miss. I'm watching it on BBC1. Very atmospheric.

Meghan looks really grumpy in that. The buttons and belt and the bad length all combine to frumpsville!

I wonder if she's beginning to realise she's always going to be second fiddle to Kate - having to wait for her to get to the church, seated behind, different balcony etc.

The news may have said he had hip replacement but the blinds say cancer treatment. If he had I-124 seeds he'd have been out the same day or the following day. Hardly any recovery.

“Tights” in America (and Canada, where I am) are thick cotton ones that kids wear, like those girls wear to school in the UK. Pantyhose, hose or nylons are all the same thing - thin, sheer, usually made of nylon & lycra and can be any colour although skin tone and black sheer are most common.

It would be unheard of to go without pantyhose in a professional office here.

The last few weeks have been a marathon of Royal News!
Anyway, the last major event probably till Christmas is probably Prince Charles' 70th birthday.

Yes the sheer ones are called pantyhose in the US. I cannot speak for every American woman, but I have not worn them since about 1995. I live in Florida, but I have not seen them on anyone anywhere else in the country in a very long time. I do think that they may still be worn in places like New York City in more conservative professions.

In the US, "tights" usually mean opaque hosiery. You might see those in colder climes in the winter, but nowhere else.

You will probably remember that in Meghan and Harry's engagement appearance, she was not wearing pantyhose/tights and was roundly criticized for it, including on MN.

I thought Kate looked fantastic this morning, but she hasn't nailed it for me this evening. I don't like the weird headband... she's worn them a few times recently. MM looks ok, neckline suits her but the outfit needed to be tailored better to accommodate the bump. Would also like to see her be more creative with hats, too many beret style.

So what do american women wear with skirts in the day when its cold? (Opaque black tights?)

and what what would you wear with a cocktail dress in the winter?

I forget how conservative North America can be. I hate tights/hose and it would be torture to have to wear them to work everyday, even in the height of summer!

Curly I would wear pantyhose in both examples. Not sure about Seneca though - in Florida it’s a lot warmer than here!

The US being so huge has a large array of climates, so what might be considered acceptable in Florida and California might not be a go in Ohio or Minnesota. Also although on the whole America is sartorially very casual, some places are more traditional such as the church-going South where bare legs might be a no-no.

I'm sad Prince Philip isn't at the service in the Abbey this evening. I know from 'someone in the know' that he was planning to attend if well enough.

Bare legs for me. I'm a lawyer and where I live even wearing a dress or skirt suit in court with high heels, women have bare legs.

Most of the time, I wear trousers, though.

Obviously living in Florida, I don't have to deal with cold weather very often. When it is cold, or if I am up north in the winter, I am always in trousers, usually with thin trouser socks on my feet.
