frugalkitty · 06/11/2018 16:16

Thanks for the new thread Queen

TipseyTorvey · 06/11/2018 16:17

Two days at a work conference and I really missed this fabulous and happy thread so I'm placemarking then going back to catch up. It's as addictive as a netflix boxset!!

IdaBWells · 06/11/2018 16:19

This is another good article from The Guardian

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2005/jul/01/shopping.fashion

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/11/2018 16:23

That was an interesting article @Ida

I’ve now further googled and it’s just Anna Valentine who runs the label.
The house style is so different to Camilla’s but I guess the patronage is worth the publicity

CrookedMe · 06/11/2018 16:24

But how is that a great reason for changing half a dozen times a day? So that in a few decades time someone will enjoy the variety in some photos of a woman married to a long-dead prince?

I'm going to stop now, don't want to kill the thread!

beanaseireann · 06/11/2018 16:32

Thank you for the new thread.

IdaBWells · 06/11/2018 16:32

Knowing the knives were out for Camilla and she never had any other pretensions other than to be a horsey country woman, I am glad she got it so right sartorially. Her outfits clearly help with her confidence so she is able to be relaxed at these big public events now that she has a high profile. I especially love her often very bold hats and it reveals something about her character that she can carry them off so well.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 06/11/2018 16:39

Seeing so many photos of Camilla, effectively at the heart of Diana’s family makes me sad. Although I didn’t like Camilla at all during the Diana years, I have respect for the way she has conducted herself and her obviously happy marriage with Charles.

Have linked to Lady Sarah McCorquodale neé Spencer her older sister to get an idea of what Diana may have been like; had she lived.

Photo of Sarah at her daughter Celia’s wedding earlier this year.

Curly I think we all feel naturally very conflicted knowing that Diana was so young and naive and Charles seemed to think he could be married and keep Camilla in any role he wanted, whether that was as a very close friend or mistress. Diana suffered so much in those early years because of C & C’s selfishness basically.

However, it’s 20 years later and Charles and Camilla’s relationship is successful and accepted by all their family. Charles will most likely be King at some point and he clearly copes much better with Camilla at his side, so I think we get a better behaved Charles with Camilla around.

My take on it is that both Diana and Charles we’re both deeply insecure because of absent mothers, they both were looking for a partner to shore them up emotionally but they couldn’t do it for each other. Camilla is willing to be almost the mother/wife figure that Charles clearly needs. She flatters him and builds him up emotionally.

I think William and Harry are being very mature about the whole thing. They accept Camilla but I think they send out signs and signals constantly that their love and loyalty to Diana is unwavering.

Thanks, @QueenOfTheAndals!
It definitely is better than AIBU and all sorts of other things currently! I've definitely found my people! Grin

Thank you for the new thread & thanks Ahoy for the jewellery link - some stunning pieces in there. 🙂

WipsGlitter · 06/11/2018 17:34

Thanks for those jewellery links ahoy do you think there's a book of pictures they can look at to pick the pieces they want to borrow?

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/11/2018 17:36

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Are there any recent photos of Diana's other sister, Lady Jane? I always thought they looked more alike, although I'm sure Diana would've indulged in her share of Botox if she was still around!

Or, if other rumours are to be believed, just look at Jemima Goldsmith to get an idea of what Diana might look like today...

Can't link right now, but Lady Jane gave a reading at Harry and Meghan's wedding.

Paradyning · 06/11/2018 18:07

This pic of Kate in Ahoy's link really looks like the Grey's Anatomy actress who played her in that dreadful film about W&K relationship. Camilla Luddington.
Cheesetastic viewing.

Pupsiecola · 06/11/2018 18:22

What are the rumours about Jemima Goldsmith Queen?!

Want2bSupermum · 06/11/2018 18:27

The rumors of Diana's mother and Jimmy Goldsmith having an affair and Diana being the product of it are very far fetched. Had it been true she wouldn't have been seen as a suitable bride.

I also don't think they look anything alike in terms of facial features. They look similar from a distance because they dress very similarly.

Want2bSupermum · 06/11/2018 18:28

It actually makes me laugh that the story was even run. It's absolutely ridiculous and no one has every been able to prove it despite lots of people trying to.

Newspeak · 06/11/2018 18:33

This is definitely the best thread on MN!!

My favourites are definitely the tiaras! I feel like all the other stuff the outfits etc could be done by anyone with enough money but the tiaras and crowns are part of our history as a nation (good or bad!).

I loved popping in everyday to see the outfits of the tour. I hate to be negative especially on this thread which is so refreshingly positive but I do think that the cost of the DoS tour wardrobe if it continues (in subsequent tours) will be a source of criticism. When people are using food banks in this country it doesn't set the right tone for the tax payer to be forking out thousands on dresses especially so if there are few British designers in there. However I personally loved seeing them and can't wait to see this weekends variations of black dress!

Paradyning · 06/11/2018 18:34

There's quite an interesting comparative photo between Diana and Ben Goldsmith. I doubt it's true but interesting nonetheless

Paradyning · 06/11/2018 18:37

There's some stunning pics of Camilla in this vanity fair article. Her waist is TINY in the last seated picture.

Article about Lady Jane Fellowes

@Ida really thoughtful commentary re: the Diana / Charles / Camilla triangle. I guess having been in the Diana position, I do really empathise with her; especially the OW coming up trumps so to speak. Although I would not consider Charles to be a “prize” despite being the future King of England. He is a needy, insecure man.

I think William and Harry are to be admired for their maturity and as you say; continued devotion to the memory of their mother.
As an individual, i respect Camilla dignified behaviour and she comes across as a nice person.

Well yes, I was being sarcastic re the Goldsmiths...

Lady Jane actually looks like Camilla in that second photo but then someone I knew once met Camilla and said she looked like "an older Diana".
