I thought the poppies represented the lives lost in the war. Cathrine had lost three great uncles in the war.

They were out last night at the remembrance event. I doubt they’ve seen much of their children this weekend, maybe they’ve had a bad night with children. Doubt the nanny works nights and days. I imagine they are hands on when they are at home. Cuddles and stories.

Doubt she is still bf though. She’s had loads of evening events recently so Louis must be having a bottle.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 17:13

I wonder who the Queen's 5 poppies were for then. I know the QM lost some brothers in the war but it wasn't as much as 5.

Do we think PP is too poorly to attend?

ElspethFlashman · 11/11/2018 17:19

I'm fairly sure they have always done the nights themselves. William has joked about bad nights on several occasions and George was apparently a very bad sleeper as Charles remarked that Charlotte was "easier on Mum" than George.

That said, who knows? Maybe they're all sleeping through and she's just got hereditary tired-face.

Can't help wondering if Megan is all a bit stunned with all this. This is Turbo Brit Overload Times a Thousand. She must feel like she married an actual Union Jack flag!

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 17:21

The queen only wore 3 in previous years so maybe the extra 2 are for Phillips family as this was the first year he wasn't there?

SilentIsla · 11/11/2018 17:21

Surely it would be best, and more fitting, to let the one poppy represent all the fallen? It is a symbol, after all.

beanaseireann · 11/11/2018 17:22

Of course they have nannies to do the night shifts.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 17:26

The RF are spreading out throughout the UK for today's ceremonies.
There will be a big crowd at Westminster Abbey tonight.

I didn't spot Sophie Wessex on any balconies today.

From the Royal.uk website:
The Duke of York will go on to a Commemorative Service marking the Centenary of the Armistice of the First World War at St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast. The Earl and Countess of Wessex will attend the Welsh National Service of Thanksgiving at Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff. The Princess Royal will attend the Scottish Commemorative Service for the Centenary of the First Armistice in Glasgow Cathedral. The Duke and Duchess Gloucester will attend The National Memorial Arboretum Armistice Day service in Staffordshire.

That evening, Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent will attend a Service to mark the Centenary of the Armistice at Westminster Abbey.

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 17:30

Apparently (according to the papers) there is no official reason why the royals wear multiple poppies. Popular theory behind the Queen's 5 is each represents a branch of service from the war so the Army, Navy, RAF, Civil Defence and women.

IdaBWells · 11/11/2018 17:35

I believe I read that Prince Philip had a hip replacement in the last couple of years, he may struggle standing for long periods. I saw that he was carriage driving at Windsor Great Park today but he can be seated for that. For the Royal Weddings that he attended recently, again he can sit for most of the service. He is 97! It’s amazing how long he kept his public engagements up, only retiring at 95. No wonder the Queen is handing more of her duties to Charles.

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 17:37

I'm not sure where she was I didn't see her but apparently this is Sophie earlier

cenotaph photos

And here's her and Edward arriving in Wales Sophie and Edward

Paradyning · 11/11/2018 17:40

Apparently it was no hip replacement, but can we treatment.

Do we know who represented the U.K. at the Paris commemoration? Maybe Sophie was there, but suppose Edward was at the Centaph.

owlshooting · 11/11/2018 17:40

I noticed Camilla doing that too. I shouldn't imagine it went down well with the Queen.

SenecaFalls · 11/11/2018 17:42

Less impressed with Camilla who smiled and made some comment to the Queen as if something had amused her

There is a picture of Kate doing the same thing.

AdaColeman · 11/11/2018 17:43

Charles & Camilla were having a giggle together at last night's concert too, with Anne looking daggers at them! (See photo on BBC website)

Paradyning · 11/11/2018 17:44

Ffs. Cancer treatment. So sorry for my continual autocorrect errors!!

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 17:47

Paradyning

Did anyone represent the uk in Paris? I haven't seem any pictures of anyone. I don't think would have been a royal as they were all out last night and at various services today (plus I think they were all at the Cenotaph). As was Theresa May.

Stillwishihadabs · 11/11/2018 17:51

Louis is 6 months. He could easily be sleeping through but breast fed at 6:30pm and 6:30am. Having been out last night and again today I am sure W&K were up early with the kids.

ElspethFlashman · 11/11/2018 17:55

The cancer treatment rumour was kinda abandoned though, when P appeared shortly afterwards looking pretty healthy. Given the quick turnaround I suspect it was a hip replacement.

Cancer treatment in people in their 90s is conservative at best, tbh.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 17:56

I found Sophie. Thanks @ItsWineTime

Anyone got any links to the French Commemoration?

@Paradyning
I have heard too on Blind Gossip that Philip's various hospital stays have been treatments for Cancer.

I think we are all being prepared for a changing of the guard.
I think William's demeanour on the Charles documentary and Kate's very serious; regal air are signs that "Oh F**k" they realise they are going to be a step away from the throne in the not so distant future.

I definitely think that we will have a Charles Regency so that the transition to Monarch is not so much of a shock.

When Princess Margaret died in 2002, the QM followed her within 4 months.
I do agree with what @QueenOfTheAndals has said previously, that the Queen will follow Prince Phillip not long after he dies, as they have had such a long & close marriage (71 years this year); infidelities not withstanding.
Although it does seem hard to believe, the Queen looked so well & radiant last night.

Paradyning · 11/11/2018 18:02

He could have just had some iodine seeds popped in! Hip replacement recover would have been a lot more involved in a 90-odd year old.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 18:04

Kate's wearing Meghan green this evening! Meghan herself is in navy.

Kate's got one of her weird Tudor head bands on!

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 18:06

She might want to redo her history lessons if she's channelling Anne Boleyn!
