It said on that Instagram that Kate is wearing a poppy for each member of her family who fought in the war.

LittleBookofCalm · 11/11/2018 12:47

Doesnt Princess Anne Do a fantastic job!
well done to her, being the younger sister of the future king

VanillaSugary · 11/11/2018 13:01

Both Kate and William seem publicly sombre these days. They probably know change is coming.

Butterymuffin · 11/11/2018 13:10

Kate's coat was fantastic and indeed very sharp looking. Both she and Meghan looked well dressed for the occasion and appropriately sombre (though I had noticed the lines under Kate's eyes before reading the comments here, and I don't normally pick up on those things). Less impressed with Camilla who smiled and made some comment to the Queen as if something had amused her - the Queen acknowledged it but didn't smile. This was just before eleven - it really would have been better to stay quiet and straight faced.

owlshooting · 11/11/2018 13:32

I think Kate looked great. She is really a Queen in waiting these days. She did look tired, maybe Louis kept her up last night?
Meghan also looking good. I only saw the end of it on catch up unfortunately.

SeaRabbit · 11/11/2018 13:33

I think both Meghan and Kate looked really good.

Like a pp I am a republican but do like a lovely tiara, and nice clothes, hence my interest in matters on this thread.

Sometimes Meghan looks very like Minnie Driver, to me.

Paradyning · 11/11/2018 14:04

Good shout SeaRabbit she really does!

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 14:17

Kate looks killingly smart but it's such a severe look and makes her look a lot older than what she is.

Love Kate's hair in an updo, really suits her. and yes read in the link the 3 poppies signify her 3 great uncles who all died in the 1st world war. Whenever i hear of brothers dying its so especially sad now i have 2 ds of my own

owlshooting · 11/11/2018 14:25

Yes Sea - I agree!

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 14:48

Loved Kate's military inspired look today was a change from her normal formal dress coat look havent had a good look at Megan's but it look good also noticed the bigger Poppy's today from last night.

beanaseireann · 11/11/2018 14:49

The 3 poppies is a lovely tribute by Kate.
Why does the Queen wear 5 - is it something to do with the empire ?
I think Kate looked very sombre.
I love her hair down- she has such lovely swishy hair.

Apologies to Melania re the blue brooch - French tribute to the fallen.
Why blue?
Why not a poppy seeing as the poppies grew in the French battle grounds ?

EdWinchester · 11/11/2018 14:54

Kate looks terribly smart but so much older than her years.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 11/11/2018 14:55

Bean - it’s similar to the poppy in that cornflowers grew in the fields around the battlefields.

florascotia2 · 11/11/2018 14:59

French 'bleuets' - cornflowers - story here:

Commonwealth red poppies inspired by Canadian poem (story and clickable link to poem here: www.greatwar.co.uk/poems/john-mccrae-in-flanders-fields-inspiration.htm

I thought Kate’s outfit looked like a Salvation Army uniform. Is competitive poppy wearing a thing now. I wore the tiny badge this year. Feel sorry for MM if she got stuck for this it’s a personal choice.

user1457017537 · 11/11/2018 15:10

Sorry “stick”

missclimpson · 11/11/2018 15:26

The poppies and the cornflowers grow together in the fields of our bit of France. I find it very moving.

Carbivorous · 11/11/2018 15:28

Pippa has named her baby Arthur Michael William.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 15:31

@user1457017537 Yes, that's it! I was trying to figure out what her coat reminded me of.

AdaColeman · 11/11/2018 15:36

Camilla was also wearing a group of three poppies like Kate, perhaps Camilla will move up to five poppies when Charles is King?

I thought Kate looked lovely today, I do like her hair up when she is wearing a hat.

Clionba · 11/11/2018 15:39

Arthur Matthews? Wasn't he the co-writers of Father Ted??

itswinetime · 11/11/2018 15:44

I do agree all this multiple poppy wearing seems a bit ott to me just seen Kate had the big 3 and a small one under them. Personally I prefer the more simple single poppy I think as User said the competitive poppy wearing takes away from the message of the day.

Granted this is in the sun so very probably completely made up but if it's true only goes to add to the odd relationship between William and his parents (Diana in this case).
birthday cake.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 15:47

I've heard the story about Diana inviting the supermodels over, but that cake business is very weird - what kind of mother buys that for her 13yo son?
