They would be granted titles by Letters Patent, surely?!

New LPs were necessary to make Charles and Anne Prince and Princess while Elizabeth was the heir presumptive.

Clionba · 08/11/2018 21:11

Also to make Louis a prince.

frugalkitty · 08/11/2018 21:16

I love the dress Kate has on this evening, it's one of my favourites!

Quantumblue · 08/11/2018 21:18

Been trapped at a work offsite and the thread has moved so fast.
Not sure about teal as an evening dress colour but Kate carries it off. I love Mary's white dress in Italy.
It was me who went to the Cartier exhibition in Canberra. It was completely fabulous.

SenecaFalls · 08/11/2018 21:19

Mary I was the closest a king's daughter came to being Princess of Wales in her own right. Henry VIII gave her some of the rights and properties associated with the title, and she was sometimes referred to as Princess of Wales, but she was never formally invested with the title. I think that if Henry had remained married to her mother, eventually Mary might have been created Princess of Wales.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:19

@SenecaFalls Prince Eddy was a slightly dodgy character, so definitely not suited to Mary! I doubt he was Jack the Ripper though.

@QueenOfTheAndals - I think Seneca means Mary Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:26

@Clionba ah I was replying to her earlier comment about Mary of Teck. This thread moves fast!

SenecaFalls · 08/11/2018 21:28

I posted about two Queen Marys. Teck and then Tudor.Smile

Clionba · 08/11/2018 21:29

Sorry, QueenOfTheAndals, you're right! It does move fast! Poor Mary of Teck, lumbered with Eddy, who was up to all sorts. She must have been relieved to end up with solid George!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:31

Solid and dull but probably better suited to be king than Eddy ever was!

Clionba · 08/11/2018 21:34

Absolutely. There's a lovely story in the Ben Pimlott biography of Queen Mary, where she at George were at a museum of Modern Art - clearly not their thing. Perusing an unusual abstract painting he called over to her "Look at this one, May, it'll make you laugh!".

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:35

Yes, George V was a notorious philistine! There's a story about them meet

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:37

There's a story about them meeting a famous author (I can't remember who) and George told them he enjoyed their books. When it was Mary's turn she said "oh I love your books but the king only reads the most dreadful rubbish"!

OP posts:
Clionba · 08/11/2018 21:42

Ha ha!! That's a great one! At least they weren't pretentious. I think actually the art anecdote was the Pope-Hennessy book (I've read that many!). Mary did have the most amazing jewellery collection. I love the jewels being referred to as "Granny's chips"!

RainbowsArePretty · 08/11/2018 21:44

She looks fab

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:45

She was also something of a kleptomaniac wasn't she?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:45

Queen Mary, that is

Yes Albert was/ is married to Paola.
I don't think the younger Royals will put up with infidelity as so many of Kings' consorts did in the past.
I'd say Queen Sofia and her ilk didn't have it easy but then my PoV is if he's scr*wing someone else, I'm out.
Perhaps they went into marriage not expecting fidelity ?

Harebellmeadow · 08/11/2018 21:49

YY to school run pics.

SenecaFalls · 08/11/2018 21:50

Evidently Queen Mary expected to be given things she admired in other people's homes to the extent that people who were expecting her visits would hide their favorite objects d'art until her departure.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/11/2018 21:51

I really like The Princess Royal title.
It is impressive and really suits Anne and her character.
I think Charlotte will grow up to also have a strong enough character to bear the title.

Re: if Eugenie had been male, a female spouse would be Princess Eugene; a bit like Princess Michael of Kent or Lady Frederick Windsor

Clionba · 08/11/2018 21:56

That's true Seneca and Queen. She has an eye for expensive objects and would expect the host to gift them! She famously did it with a Persian rug which she ordered the servants to roll up and send to the Palace, with barely the consent of the owner!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/11/2018 21:58

I don’t think infidelity is a purely Royal “prerogative”. Loads of Aristocrats do it too.

I could see William being unfaithful in later years.
He is headstrong and self important enough, with a tight knit group of friends that he could get away with it.
I don’t think he would flaunt it, and Kate would always maintain the image.
He has too much form from his parents, and I don’t think William has done enough therapy on himself and needs the external validation.
Whereas, I can see a Harry being devotedly married for the rest of his life.

Kate stuck in traffic on the school run

The Kings Road traffic is awful
