Re Edward, wouldn't the DoE title automatically go to Charles as he's the eldest son?

OP posts:
gingercat02 · 08/11/2018 20:40

HM has said that Edward will have DoE when Philip dies

itswinetime · 08/11/2018 20:43

But Charles already has the duchy of Cornwall and is the prince of Wales does he need another title.

Maybe Andrew will take over but Edward seems to be takinging on a lot of the dukes roles since he retired so he is favourite with the press at the moment! I don't think there is anything official though.

PawneeParksDept · 08/11/2018 20:44

Ok so either the death of The Queen or the death of Prince Charles will see William become The Prince Of Wales and Katherine almost with 100% certainty The Princess Of Wales

George will not then become Duke Of Cambridge, he will simply remain Prince George but more likely use Wales as his "school surname" rather than Cambridge as he does currently.

Neither Prince William nor Prince Harry became a Duke til they married the same will be true of George and Louis.

What Dukedoms they end up with depends on many factors

If William is King when George reaches 21 or so, George will become Prince Of Wales at that point as Charles did.

The tradition is for the oldest son/heir to be Prince Of Wales, if Charlotte had been first, she would have been the first to be Princess Of Wales in her own right because of changes to the succession.

The second son is always Duke Of York, if Andrew/Charles are dead when Louis reaches 21, he will become Duke Of York with Harry retaining Sussex, at this stage the Kings brother.

Charlotte will become The Princess Royal

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/11/2018 20:46

Andrew could well still be alive by the time Louis gets married ( usual time for bestowing Dukedoms).

George May well become Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall before he marries. The last eldest son of a Prince of Wales was Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, who was the elder brother of George V

From Wikipedia
It was announced in 1999, at the time of the wedding of Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, that he would follow his father as Duke of Edinburgh. This is unlikely to happen by direct inheritance, as Prince Edward is the youngest of Prince Philip's three sons. Rather, the title is expected to be newly created for Prince Edward after it "eventually reverts to the crown"[10] after "both the death of the current Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales' succession as King."[11]

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 20:50

The second son is always Duke Of York

Not always @PawneeParksDept. If Beatrice or Eugenie has been male then they would've inherited the title after Andrew's death.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/11/2018 20:50

Wikipedia says Edward will only get the Edinburgh title once Charles is King. It was announced at his wedding in1999; that he will eventually be created Duke of Edinburgh

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 20:51

Princess Royal isn't an automatic title either, Anne wasn't given it til the late 80s.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 20:53

The Queen never held the PR title as Princess Mary had it and she didn't die til the 60s.

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/11/2018 20:53

Really extrapolating here; but if Prince George’s eldest child is a girl, she will become the first Princess of Wales in her own right as noted by pp.

Then if she married and her husband refused a title, that child could be a titleless heir to the throne. Eg Mr John Mountbatten Windsor!

itswinetime · 08/11/2018 20:53

I'm not sure it is possible or which is officially the better title but instead of becoming princess royal I would like Charlotte to become a duchess in her on right like all the male memebers get dukeoms! I know it's all a bit pointless and meaningless but I would quiet like her to be Duchess of York day if if it's free!

OlennasWimple · 08/11/2018 20:54

I love the teal JP gown - good choice Kate Wink

I think that we are being softened up for some form of hand over, whether that's a formal regency or not. Even on the other side of the world I've noticed a few "I won't be a meddling king" type pieces appearing very recently

SenecaFalls · 08/11/2018 20:55

And Albert Victor, called Eddy in the family, was engaged to Princess May of Teck. When Eddy died, she married his brother George and eventually became Queen Mary. it is highly likely that she and George were a much better match than she and Eddy would have been.

PawneeParksDept · 08/11/2018 20:55

@QueenOfTheAndals

Not necessarily I don't think Q, not in this streamlined monarchy era. Jack Brooksbank received no title upon marriage meaning that more than likely their child will be Miss/Master Firstname Brooksbank, a "Lord" or "Lady" perhaps but no more and even if they are their own children, the Dukes great grandchildren won't be eg Lady Sarah Chatto and Arthur Chatto, Lord Freddie/Maud

If Eugenie had been say Prince Eugene then I highly doubt that his spouse would have been a duchess or any title at all unless they brought that title with them.

OlennasWimple · 08/11/2018 20:55

Re funerals - the armed forces regularly practice for a state funeral, which is then tweaked according to which one actually dies. They had been practicing so much for the Queen Mother that they could do Diana's funeral very easily

Inniu · 08/11/2018 20:56

Theoretically Prince Andrew could get married again and have a son so title of Duke of York Is not definitely going to be for Louis.

Clionba · 08/11/2018 20:58

If a female was heir to the throne, she would not have children called Mr or Ms... They would be granted titles by Letters Patent, surely?!
Kate looks great in the JP dress, love her in the silver Jimmy Choo sandals. I like evening sandals, they always seem so dressy. I prefer her updo, though.
I'm impressed that she can get into it after 3 kids, and doesn't need more support for her bazooms!!

SenecaFalls · 08/11/2018 20:58

I agree itswinetime. The Swedish blood princesses are duchesses in their own right.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 20:59

@PawneeParksDept No, ducal titles are inherited by sons. The dukes of Kent and Gloucester both have sons who'll ultimately inherit those titles. It would've been the same if Beatrice was Benjamin and when he married his wife would've been the duchess of york.

Clionba · 08/11/2018 21:01

I used to live in Central London and the Horse Guards etc used to practise ceremonials for royal funerals at bloody 5am. Clattering along the roads like there was an invasion.

VanillaSugary · 08/11/2018 21:02

Does anyone have any photos of the current Royal mums on the school run?

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:02

The Kent and Gloucester heirs all have sons of their own too, so those two lines are set to continue for the foreseeable future.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 08/11/2018 21:05

Eugenie's children won't have any titles at all, much like the Phillips siblings, as Jack has no title.
