Not if you keep buying Meryl jumpers Grin

Alwaysasparklymoment99 · 07/11/2018 19:10

Beautiful furniture @melen

Laska..this looks like your next project [ after the amies!!!!.]

Laska3Meryl · 07/11/2018 19:12

I think ive had that cupboard since about the time DS was born.. (I became a single parent as H left when Ds v small and was v broke), it came from charity shop.. I have always wanted io replace the door handle but have never found one to match.. My desk ( where I am now and have written two dissertations since) on is of similar vintage ..

Laska3Meryl · 07/11/2018 19:13

Ha! always! Grin

dontcallmelen · 07/11/2018 19:37

always 😂
Laska that’s why I love old furniture, the memories, I am stalking Aldi so will let you know when it’s back in stock, they don’t do a vast choice of colours unlike Annie Sloan. The colour I used is dove grey & I think they do a darker grey & white.

SoyYo · 07/11/2018 19:55

laska if you have to ask you can’t afford it 🤣 seriously now will let you know when Aldi have some in, there’s a shop in my town, now melen has confirmed their chalk paint is good stuff...like always says it’ll be your next project and what a fab way to breathe new life into your memories...I think apart from my sofa I haven’t bought a single piece of new furniture in at least 10 years, and even 30 years ago when the word upcycling had never even been heard of I was into buying old Victorian chests and desks. I just like the shape and solidness of old furniture...
Have a lovely evening all!

dontcallmelen · 07/11/2018 19:57

Soy I’m the same can’t remember last time I bought new stuff, apart from the sofas, have a lovely evening

Ellapaella · 07/11/2018 21:46

I have a dresser/cupboard thing I'm now thinking might do with a bit of up cycling- if u post a picture can you tell me what you think len and soy? Maybe it's a bit too big. It's 15 years old and a it tired and dated but excellent quality.
What do you think?

Sorry for all the typos.

ella YES perfect candidate for chalk paint makeover! You can then give it some new handles or repaint the existing ones, it’s a big piece but I reckon a couple of coats and two coats of wax would take around 6 hours to do (possibly over a couple of afternoons).
I’ll find some videos on YouTube I used to learn/get inspiration from and post tomorrow.
It’s very very satisfying to give furniture you’re a bit tired of a new lease of life 👍

dontcallmelen · 07/11/2018 22:12

Ella that’s lovely an ideal project, my bedroom furniture is fairly similar, painted it all & looks totally different I just couldn’t justify buying new as it was really good quality, go for it it will look fab.

Ellapaella · 07/11/2018 22:13

Ooh great! Thanks for the inspiration it'll be a great project for me.
You Tube Vids would be great if you get a chance Soyo. I'll have a hunt in my local Aldi for some chalk paint.

Just remembered another chalk paint brand I have used, Rustoleum can get from most diy stores & comes in lost of colours.

dontcallmelen · 07/11/2018 22:20

What you could do as well if the top of the cupboard is in good condition, sand it with a small electric hand sander, which gets rid of the orangy colour & wax it, then paint the rest, will post a pic of my bedroom furniture tomorrow as that’s what I did.

SoyYo · 07/11/2018 22:23

Here I picked one up randomly from the Annie Sloan YouTube channel which has lots of tutorials for chalk painting and different finishes (plus flogging their products, but you can get the Aldi paint instead).
You could paint the inside drawers a contrasting colour, or pick some detail in a different shade and then distress to show a couple of different shades... ie give a first coat in white then add grey or duck egg blue in some sections then wax and then with a fine sand paper distress to show some of the layers of paint below, rewax to finish etc etc.
Lots of people show their techniques and projects on YouTube so easy to find inspiration

Ellapaella · 07/11/2018 22:27

Great ideas thanks both. I've used rustoleom paint before in some garden furniture actually, it gave a great finish.

Morning !

Wonder what the postman will bring today? (although I will be mainland again )

Maybe I should change my user name for Christmas to LaskaDingDongMeryl-yOnHigh ..😂

Laska3Meryl · 08/11/2018 09:39

Hush gal again today! Leopard leggings green wide top and velvet puffa ( have I mentioned that I am totally in love with this?Grin). Also wearing Hultquist starry moon necklace and black suede ankle boots.
Am hinting open star necklace and cherry zebra scarf for birthday/ Christmas.. Wink

dontcallmelen · 08/11/2018 10:16

Laska sounds very very stylish, that puffa jacket seems to be turning out to have been a good buy, Christmas name seems very apt😄

dontcallmelen · 08/11/2018 10:21

Ella pic of my bedroom furniture that I sanded & waxed the top then painted, other pic is a little sewing table that I bought for the spare room & did the same.

Laska if you are visiting your dm & family hope all is good.

ilovecherries · 08/11/2018 11:06

On my way home from hospital, made DH stop at the shopping centre and now have my Colonoscopy Coat from Zara Grin, to celebrate having a pristine and healthy bowel. :)

SoyYo · 08/11/2018 11:07

Morning! More loveliness from melen chalk paint projects and laskamerylyonhigh Grin as usual hushing it, hope your visit goes well.
Gorgeous sunshine in my garden, love mild sunny autumn days, unfortunately knee deep finishing a presentation and in a lot of work calls this pm...my Hush parcel should arrive today but usually parcel post is mid afternoon which means with work calls it’ll be too late to post pics but I’ll let you know what I think Smile

SoyYo · 08/11/2018 11:09

Well done cherries! Glad your ordeal is over and wait to see you in your teddy bear coat
