Can't believe some of you have 2 degrees! I was chuffed with my 5!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/10/2018 21:42

Interesting analysis of meghan’s body shape pre pregnancy.
She was pretty much straight up and down, now with pregnancy she has a booty and boobs!

SenecaFalls · 26/10/2018 21:45

Interesting and very capable woman, Katharine of Aragon

Certainly one of the most interesting women of her time or any other. In one of the television dramas about Henry the VIII, I think it may have been the 1970s Six Wives of Henry VIII actually, when she died, one of the characters said:"she cared about the terms on which she lived." If ever there was an understatement . . . .

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2018 21:46

@Paradyning They do, my cousin married a very ocker Aussie and the wedding attire from his side of the family was casual, to say the least. Shorts and flip flops!

I can do six degrees of separation to the Queen in a random way but not related by blood way

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 26/10/2018 21:50

Also I read somewhere that K of Aragon had a better claim to the throne than Henry both through John of Gaunt. Katherine through his second wife & Henry through his third but this was an illegitimate line.

But I’m sure someone with better knowledge than me will come & tell us if I’m right Wink

serenmoon · 26/10/2018 21:53

Has a biography of Meghan been written yet? I’m really intrigued by her early life and relationship with her father. I think she lived with him through high school years.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2018 21:54

I think Andrew Morton wrote one?

Unless I misunderstand it, I thought six degrees of separation was by people you have met. Several people on these threads have mentioned that they have met Prince Charles so that would make them two degrees from the Queen. One degree would be if you have met the Queen herself.

Laniakea · 26/10/2018 22:07

(Marcus Setchell was my personal tutor at med school, that's my claim to fame Wink )

Clionba · 26/10/2018 22:08

Andrew Morton wrote a book about Meghan, as pp have said. "Hollywood Princess". I've not read it, has anyone?
I recently read a book about the Queen Mother written by an equerry. I can't remember his name. It was strangely compelling, although it just seemed to be about the meals they ate.

VanillaSugary · 26/10/2018 23:02

My God, I need to curtesy to all of you! I thought my x4 was good

Katherine of Aragon is laid to rest in Peterborough Cathedral. You wander in to get out of the rain and almost fall over her. Mary Queen of Scots was also briefly buried there. When James became King of England he dug up Elizabeth I, dumped her on top of Mary, and then put his mother into Elizabeth's nice tomb instead.

Does this photo remind you of anyone? A young Kate Middleton perchance?

PawneeParksDept · 26/10/2018 23:09

That's how I understood it too @SenecaFalls I wouldn't have a clue how distant I am through literal genealogy but in terms of "knowing someone who knows/knew someone" I'm two degrees from The Queen in two ways.

RosinaAlmaviva · 26/10/2018 23:25

Andrew Morton wrote a book about Meghan, as pp have said. "Hollywood Princess". I've not read it, has anyone?

I read it when it was first released and thought it was pretty good considering:

  • Andrew Morton had obviously been working to a pretty tight deadline (in fact it reminded me of Rita Skeeter writing The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore in 6 weeks or whatever it was).
  • He clearly didn't have much access to anyone currently close to Meghan.

The book portrays Meghan as talented, driven, hard-working, highly ambitious with a relentlessly positive attitude and yes, something of a social climber. However, that's ideal for a modern-day princess - if she values her privilege and her platform it will go some way to compensate her for the loss of privacy and self-determination.

Interestingly enough, Morton states that Meghan read his Diana biography in the 90s - if only she'd known that one day he would turn his attention to her...

OlennasWimple · 27/10/2018 01:13

One of DH's family briefly dated one of the Queen's grandchildren...So I'm claiming a fairly close connection (obviously my wedding invitations got lost in the post because I'm overseas Wink )

eaglefly · 27/10/2018 01:21

I once worked with the chap who spoke at Eugenie's wedding before Beatrice. Got the shock of my life when I saw him on TV as hadn't made the connection with the same surname.

LadyCassandra · 27/10/2018 01:43

As I mentioned, my relative (my stepdad’s Nephew) is marrying into the royals, which definitely makes me royalty! Grin

Quantumblue · 27/10/2018 01:50

I met Prince Charles this year and - hold onto your hats - I am a 6th cousin of William and Harry. I share a common ancestor with Diana.

New authorised biography about Prince Charles.

I personally think Charles never learns. Why try to “set the record straight” after 20 years. Now all these stories will be rehashed, when most people would have forgotten or they are so minor in the scheme of things.

Charles comes across as someone with way too much time on his hands and woefully out of touch.

To pp’s who noticed his red face at the Dutch State banquet. Apparently Charles barely eats all day, and then likes a few strong martinis before dinner.
He is worried about his health and knows that his reign will be short.
Apparently the Queen has said he will be regent when she turns 95.

I personally think we are going to have a quick turnaround of monarchs in quick succession.
William will probably be on the throne by the time he is 50.Not young, but not elderly. About the same age as the Kings of Spain and the Netherlands when they acceded the throne.

Clionba · 27/10/2018 04:39

It's like a Greek tragedy, isn't it? He's forever seeing that wreck of a marriage replayed.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/10/2018 06:06

He never learns.
At least he has said his parents were not to blame about him marrying Diana.
At 22 he dithered and didn’t marry Camilla. 10 years later he couldn’t grow a pair and call off the wedding to Diana.
You can see why William waited so long to be 100% sure with Kate.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/10/2018 06:11

Meghan at the wheelchair basketball finals.
I’m just wondering how she does up ger jeans.... they don’t look like a maternity pair.
Excellent outfit; shows off her legs, gives her shape on the top half.
Slightly wierd shade of red but she looks good
