Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Most of us had long since stopped using it, partially due to the inconsistency of formulations and the worrying behaviour of the CEO on Social Media.

Since that compilation, other brands like the Inkey, Revolution Skincare, QRXLabs, and Alex Steinherr x Primark have launched with similar products/concepts.

From the limited experience on here, the Vitamin C 23% and Azelaic Acid from Garden of Wisdom (at Victoria’s Health) is well liked and much preferred over TO versions.

OCTOBER 2018: In other news, we’re two years old this month! We’re so old- Drunk Elephant is finally available in the UK, but all this celebration is probably overshadowed by the fear that our beloved LRP Toleriane Fluide may have been discontinued Sad

I don't thinking I'm reading it wrong:
"As one of our customers who purchased a Drunk Elephant product and fell #DrunkinLove when we first launched the range, we don’t want you to lose out and will be refunding the difference between what you paid and the new pricing."

The price I payed included discount. The new price doesn't. So I assume I will get back 40p. 😂
I have a feeling DE will be exluced from general promotion ( the same way Paula's choice is excluded from all latest promotions on look fantastic ), I dont know why but it feels like it's going to be like that .
I could also live without the hashtags...😆

Jozxyqk · 23/10/2018 19:54

Hi all, just a quick question - has anyone tried this moisturiser - how is it on combination sensitive skin please? I'm currently using the last of my discontinued LRP Toleriane.

SallieSallow · 23/10/2018 20:25

I was just about to say I have used and liked that one Joz but realised I’m being a numpty and mixing up my LRPs again, this is the one I have and use to deal with flaky winter skin/retinol peeling.

www.laroche-posay.com/products-treatments/Cicaplast/Cicaplast-p2210.aspx

I’d be tempted by DE at around £60 if it ever drops that low, unlikely I know.

Don’t spend that 40p all at once now Babypigeon Grin

Connie5858 · 23/10/2018 20:37

JOZ I have been using the LRP toleriane
Is the sensitive very different?

Jozxyqk · 23/10/2018 20:59

Sorry Connie I'm not sure what you mean? I'm currently using up the last of my supply of this LRP moisturiser which is discontinued - I bought a few before it became impossible to get hold of. Still haven't found a really good replacement for it, was wondering about the one I linked to on my previous post. The only one I've tried so far which was ok-ish is one by Avene. Problem with that is, it's slightly fragranced - it's pleasant & only very light, but ideally I'd rather unfragranced.

Connie5858 · 23/10/2018 21:41

Sorry
From what I can see the toleriane fluid is now toleriane fluid sensitive.
Is this a completely new product ? Or is it similar ?

JDSTER · 23/10/2018 22:07

All the DE price confusion Confused. I can’t imagine they’ll discount by much. My DH got me two bottles $90 each (not sure about taxes).

pigeon 40p! ShockGrin

TantricTwist · 23/10/2018 23:17

I am delighted with my recent purchase from Superdrug of this this and this Sali's favourite
I highly recommend all 3

Ollivander84 · 23/10/2018 23:58

I'm using the alpha h hydration moisturiser and really enjoying it

Also la belle lune oil https://www.labellelune.com/tablet/our-ingredients.html

Discovered the stila stay all day lipstick in baci is one of my favourites ever (see photo!)

And had 4 of my modelling photos gone off for publication in a magazine
This lighting is so flattering it's ridiculous

Jozxyqk · 24/10/2018 00:06

I can't find anywhere that lists the ingredients for the LRP Toleriane sensitive moisturiser, so I'm not sue Connie. Maybe Botemp or someone else will be able to help as I'm sure they'll be a lot more knowledgeable re: where to look for that kind of information.

I have a question regarding unopened products. Is there a maximum time that a product can be kept before it should be used up? (I'm assuming there is, but how & where can I find out about this?) Can this be extended by keeping unopened items in a fridge?

AwdBovril · 24/10/2018 00:11

Lovely photo Ollivander.

EnidButton · 24/10/2018 00:57

For Connie and anyone else looking for the new lrp toleriane Sensitive fluide details. This is all the (English) info on the box inc ingredients.

It isn't the same as the old LRP toleriane fluide. I am liking it so far though. Early days so can't fully judge yet but it seems like it could be a decent replacement, for me anyway. We'll see.

Thankyou so much
I think I’ll give the sensitive a try
See how I get on

botemp · 24/10/2018 09:12

Pigeon, I may be a bit glass half full when people owe me money, but I would read that as new price minus discount difference. It would also be pretty bad form for CB not honour the original discount code they negotiated with an influencer specifically to push a launch and then to make that pretty much worthless and puts that relationship at risk. I am annoyed on your behalf with the hashtags though, ugh. I've dealt with CB customer service before, they're better than that.

New price is £67 so with the 15% discount at CB or £15 off over £60 at SpaceNK it'll go under £60 easy Sallie. But don't you have a bad track record with L-AA? Isn't it more sensible to stick with the Medik8 tetra, do you have the starter strength or the stronger one of that, btw?

The old fluid and the new sensitivite are similar but not the same. I've attached INCIs, top is the new sensitivite. Similarly low number of ingredients, Squalane has been replaced with caprycilic triglycerides which is a coconut oil derivative (vs. olive derivative -usually- Squalane) but it's not comodonogenic, though it can be triggering for some. They've added soothing ingredient Niacinamide, which again, in theory, is innocuous but some have issues with it. Don't think it's a terribly high % anyhow. Overall I think it's isn't terrible at all based on the INCI, you're just unlucky if you're sensitive to the above mentioned changes. The other ingredients are the same or comparable.

Joz, it depends on the preservatives and whether it contains water in the INCI, type of packaging, etc. My usual rule is use up within 2yrs of purchase. Realistically it should probably be 3 but you don't always know when something was manufactured although you can look that up with the batch codes.

TantricTwist · 24/10/2018 09:43

My skin hasn't liked niacinamide or HA in the past however when it's near the bottom of the INCI list then my skin can tolerate it.

I still have 2 and a half bottles of the original LRP Toleraine Fluide the dates on which are 2020 so I have time.

Olli you look very Twilight with those gorgeous dramatic eyes of yours.

My new purchases sat very well under my Differin last night so I'm hoping there's less stinging around the eyes and dryness if I do it that way.

Connie5858 · 24/10/2018 09:57

Botemp thanks for the detailed post.
I shall try it.

Ollivander84 · 24/10/2018 10:33

Tantric - ring light I'm going to carry one everywhere

mintmagnummm · 24/10/2018 10:38

Joz have you tried the toleriane ultra fluid?

Jozxyqk · 24/10/2018 13:28

Botemp & Enid thanks for that, I've ordered one tube of the LRP Toleriane sensitive to try out.
Mint - no I've not tried the LRP Ultra Fluid, I seem to remember Botemp saying something about it absolutely ages ago that suggested it wouldn't suit me. I've got sensitive skin but combination & prone to breakouts if I use anything too rich. As it is I don't use the lighter moisturiser all over my face, I avoid nose & chin as they are the worst. I do my forehead though, just as a wrinkle preventative measure.

mintmagnummm · 24/10/2018 15:47

Joz I have the same skin type and I'm fine with the ultra

Jozxyqk · 24/10/2018 15:56

Interestjng - maybe it's one to try out if I don't find a light moisturiser I get one with, or perhaps as a richer option in the winter & during allergy season (I sometimes get slightly dry patches when I'm hayfever-ish).

BabyPigeon83 · 24/10/2018 17:47

Bo honestly I am past being upset, actually I was surprised they would refund the difference at all. My expectations do seem really low... :O I also don't think Nadine knew something like this would happen. Her code was active for a very limited time I think. I do not complain on social media either, I'm barely on it.

I calculated the 40p because I ordered the C-Tango eye cream, for which I payed £54.40 pounds (with 15% offer code, still bloody expensive). The new price is £54 :D yay me
So I will either get 40p from them or £8.5. My assumption is 40p (glass half empty :)) ) I will try not to splurge those 40p Sallie.
Does anybody like the C-Tango cream? I haven't used it for a long time but I'm not very impressed so far. Firstly, it really got in my eyes, so I started to use a smaller amount and try not to take it very close to the lash line (only used it at night), but it still kind of gets into my eyes (it does not sting). Also my eyelids seem drier and began to sting when applying my mineral SPF (not a good sign). Does anybody have a good feedback for this eye cream? Or maybe it's my fault for using primer with evil suspicious silicon in it... :D

Of topic, I was thinking about trying beautypie (mostly for makeup), but I'm unsure since it needs subscription.

SallieSallow · 24/10/2018 19:26

Bo I didn’t realise DE would go that low with vouchers, but yes I’m happy with medik8 and given my not so good track record with Vit c I’m going to stick with it. The one I have isn’t the ‘intense’ so presume it must be the starter strength.

No experience with c-tango Babypigeon I always keep my eye Grin out for new eye treatments as it’s an area of concern for me and I haven’t found anything that really works yet, but given your experience I think I’ll avoid this one.

Beauty pie didn’t appeal to me as I’m not keen on subscription type things, I’ve read some good reviews here on S&B though. You can put that 40p towards it before it burns a hole in your pocket Grin

Gorgeous pic Olli as always ❤️

Tsmummy08 · 26/10/2018 08:44

Tant those sprays look nice - I've got a Pixi hydrating spray for the drier winter months but always up for a cheaper alternative, and that Hydrating Serum is a staple for me, it's great!

I'm not enjoying using Tret at the moment - my skin seems really pink, much more so than I've experienced in the past. I'm wondering whether the delightful hormonal changes associated with perimenopause are affecting my skin as well as everything else... I'm debating switching back to P&M Retinoil to see what happens... Loving my DE vit C though, and the lower price :)
