Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Since that compilation, other brands like the Inkey, Revolution Skincare, QRXLabs, and Alex Steinherr x Primark have launched with similar products/concepts.

From the limited experience on here, the Vitamin C 23% and Azelaic Acid from Garden of Wisdom (at Victoria’s Health) is well liked and much preferred over TO versions.

OCTOBER 2018: In other news, we’re two years old this month! We’re so old- Drunk Elephant is finally available in the UK, but all this celebration is probably overshadowed by the fear that our beloved LRP Toleriane Fluide may have been discontinued Sad

The Gold Orchid Lenor is lovely Mint I'll be alternating that with the Yellow Lenor.

EnidButton · 11/01/2019 01:34

I'm massively crashing and feel awful. Wish I could remember what feeling well felt like. I've literally forgotten. Sorry, I know this is not the place but I feel so upset by it tonight. Even my bloody hair is hurting my head.

Skin is calming down though...🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry for anyone feeling unwell O hope it passes soon CakeBrew

EnidButton · 11/01/2019 01:38

Sorry, ignore me, seriously. Flowers I might feel better after a sleep.

mintmagnummm · 11/01/2019 05:49

mintmagnummm · 11/01/2019 05:49

mintmagnummm · 11/01/2019 05:51

My ibs has flared up, in a lot of pain at mo I bloody hate it! Think it's worse around time of the month, I'm due on soon.

mintmagnummm · 11/01/2019 06:07

Sallie I meant to say I asked escentual why bioderma wasn't included and they said the brand has asked not to be! I needed the shower oil so I used their other discount for that. Wasn't impressed as had been waiting to repurchase that when they had the next 1/3 off offer.

Pupsiecola · 11/01/2019 11:51

Talk to me about hand washing please people. I seem to wash my hands a gazillion times a day. Especially when getting ready in the morning. Ie after most steps of skincare and make up application (tinted moisturiser, bronzer and blusher dabbed on back of hand, a little highligher), body moisturiser, HRT gel, hair B&B Invisible oil. I'm going to try to improve the look of my hands over the next few months and try to religiously use an acid and use up my LRP Vit C in the mornings and Redermic R in the evenings. I tend to wear gloves all the time at the moment and I also have some SPF I can use up.

mintmagnummm · 11/01/2019 14:17

I need some help.....I want to buy my matron of honour a special gift for the day but I have no idea what?? Any ideas?

Skinfulnappies46 · 11/01/2019 16:20

pupsie i wash my hands lots also and have noticed great improvement from using cicapladt hand cream as recommended by joz. It's not expensive or greasy and fragrance free.

Skinfulnappies46 · 11/01/2019 16:20

*Cicaplast

botemp · 11/01/2019 16:54

Flowers Enid

Pupsie, my hands don't dry out that quickly so I use Dettol or Ecover. Never really examined their INCI Too closely. Perhaps it's worth using an oil cleanser like Avene Xeracalm or the Bioderma atoderm, as they don't strip the moisture out of your skin when you're not washing for hygiene reasons.

For enhanced moisture penetration you can really slather on the moisturiser and then wear cotton gloves to bed.

With improving the look of them are you aiming for the appearance of the skin or also the loss of volume as the latter is hard to reverse and fillers are a better option. Although for whatever reason people find that really controversial, it's left me a bit Confused

Thanks guys. I have just received the Cicaplast handcream I ordered. Bo it's more that the pores look quite large on my hands. Is this a thing?! I guess it's general aging. I've never been fastidious with year round SPF on my hands either.

Skinsosoftandblemishfree · 11/01/2019 20:19

Can I ask if it's okay to apply vit c serum after P50W at night?

botemp · 11/01/2019 20:24

Pores are unusual, I'd be tempted to tackle them with an exfoliant. You could try one of those high percentage chenical peels, so you only have to do it weekly rather than daily.

OP posts:
botemp · 11/01/2019 20:28

Skin, you can but technically in order of pH you'd do Vitamin C first (assuming L-AA at a low pH level) then follow with acid (padding it in as advised by BR rather than sweeping). Although IIRC the pH of P50w is around the same as a Vit C product so it's not imperative one way or the other.

Can I ask, only saw it later last time, why are you using Vit C at night and retinol during the day, it's generally done the other way round.

OP posts:
Skinsosoftandblemishfree · 11/01/2019 20:56

Thanks Bo. I use the P50W at night so I have to use a retinol in the day: hence Redermic R and the associated Redermic eye cream. Should I flip it and use the P50W in the morning? or even use it twice a day (but then I can't use retinol).

Pupsiecola · 11/01/2019 21:14

Maybe they're not pores then. Maybe I'll take a pic tmrw

botemp · 11/01/2019 21:15

Retinol degrades really quickly in sunlight so it's better to use at night to give it a chance to do actually do something. It's a different story for synthetic retinoids but IIRC the LRP is standard retinol.

P50W is fine to use in the morning. Generally I advise to alternate nights as you run the risk of overexfoliation and ending up right where you started if you go full on with actives.

Thank you Bo.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 12/01/2019 07:47

Has anyone tried the new Cicaplast cleanser? www.escentual.com/la-roche-posay/larocheposay184/

botemp · 12/01/2019 09:58

I'm not sure that's new, Nice, regardless it has sulfates so I wouldn't be keen on that front.

Thanks Bo

JDSTER · 12/01/2019 14:06

skinsosift just to chime in and say I use Vit C every morning, followed by moisturiser then SPF (usually 10mins later). The Vit C is an antioxidant so provides extra protection during the day. Evenings I alternate with retinol most nights and P50w two nights per week. My skin is fairly oily and I wouldn’t use P50w more than 2-3 times a week. Retinoid packs more lunch longer term anyway so you’re far better using that the majority of the time.

Skinsosoftandblemishfree · 12/01/2019 14:17

Thank you JDSTER, I think I will flip the routine and do as you do and see how I go. I have been using P50W every night for the last week but perhaps it's a too much for my dehydrated and sensitive skin.

I did use Vit C for the first time this morning, mixed with my Eucerin 5% moisturiser. I am using the Skin-pop Super C15 Serum. Any thoughts on this as a product?
