Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

WRT to The Ordinary/Deciem:

Most of us had long since stopped using it, partially due to the inconsistency of formulations and the worrying behaviour of the CEO on Social Media.

Since that compilation, other brands like the Inkey, Revolution Skincare, QRXLabs, and Alex Steinherr x Primark have launched with similar products/concepts.

From the limited experience on here, the Vitamin C 23% and Azelaic Acid from Garden of Wisdom (at Victoria’s Health) is well liked and much preferred over TO versions.

OCTOBER 2018: In other news, we’re two years old this month! We’re so old- Drunk Elephant is finally available in the UK, but all this celebration is probably overshadowed by the fear that our beloved LRP Toleriane Fluide may have been discontinued Sad

Can anyone recommend a good hydrating hair mask? I want something to use once a week that's really hydrating and not protein based as I'm already using a repairing shampoo and conditioner daily. I was looking at the davines nou nou conditioner, has anyone tried this?

'hello bendy avocado concealer'

^ Who makes up these names! I'm currently imagining an avocado attempting some serious yoga moves Grin

😂 But I would love that undead pale vampiric look.
That palette does look nice, I wonder if it's gonna be in the sale after Xmas. It's a bit steep at the moment.

Ollivander84 · 18/12/2018 22:01

I'm so pale that I use the ethereal light Grin

Pupsiecola · 18/12/2018 22:26

Layering GOW Azelaic and the night time Cerave is causing me tingling. I've just done another cleanse to get rid. Anyone else had an issue/know if an issue?

EnidButton · 19/12/2018 00:26

Sales advisor on Bobbi Brown swatched the, very sparkly, moonstone eyeshadow on my hand and said I looked like a twilight vampire. Um thank you?
It's a bloody gorgeous glitter shadow btw. Wish I'd got it before it was snapped up everywhere.

Realised today that my fruit and veg consumption fell off a cliff about a month ago Blush I'm blaming Christmas but really I need to force my motivation back into gear. My skin definitely looks brighter when I've been scoffing heaps of colourful veg.

Are you feeling better Olli? Brew

EnidButton · 19/12/2018 00:28

I haven't used either sorry Pups didn't mean to miss your post there!
Did the Az acid tingle when used with other products or just the cerave?

NiceUnusualDifferent · 19/12/2018 05:10

When I started with Azelaic Acid (skinoren) I had tingling for a while, built up from every third day gradually to every day and no tingling.

MerryBear · 19/12/2018 05:46

GOW Adelaida tingled for me a bit at first, especially if I had used another acid/enzyme in the previous few days. I usually layer it with jojoba oil. It resolved for me when I got the balance/frequency acids right. This generally means not using them as a serum (on all day/night) but as a treatment.

I use it as a treatment a couple of times a week rather than a daily serum. So I’ll pop it on for an hour or two as a sort of mask that doesn’t frighten the horses, with a little bit of jojoba oil on top to stop my face drying out.

Other acids in the mix for me are:
Liquid Gold once or twice a week. I use this on it’s own overnight, it’s the only acid product I leave on for an extended period.
GOW Salycylic Acid once a week, again for a limited time 30 mins to one hour followed by a clay mask)
Tata Harper Resurfacing mask as needed/special occasions Madara Smart Charcoal and Mud Mask (lactic acid) as needed/special occasions

Is it a sudden thing Pupsie? Could be the case that winter weather has left your skin less resilient than before.

OP posts:
Pupsiecola · 19/12/2018 10:47

Thanks guys. I don't remember it tingling before Bo but actually I forgot I had it Blush and haven't used it for ages. I knew I was missing something. I'll try it without the cerave and see if that helps.

SophieLion · 19/12/2018 12:21

Many thanks Olli and NiceUsualDifferent. Need to investigate. No idea if I can find those here (Greece)....

Pupsie, I'm another Skinoren user. It's a higher % AA than the GoW one though. It does sting sometimes especially when layering SPF or moisturiser over it. I'm cutting back on it (supposed to be using it every other day) as think combined with tret and winter weather, it's making my skin dry. Think AA is one of those things that the skin needs to adjust to (as NiceUsualDifferent said). Also find it impossible to apply concealer or any make-up over Skinoren as it coagulates or looks flakey (the concealer I mean).

Pupsiecola · 19/12/2018 13:16

Thank you Sophie. OOI have you always lived in Greece?

SophieLion · 19/12/2018 14:50

No I grew up in England Pupsie. What does OOI stand for?

Pupsiecola · 20/12/2018 00:37

Out of interest.

botemp · 21/12/2018 08:09

Drunk Elephant is launching a retinoid on the 26th, I'll wait for the INCI for further info as the blurb on that blog leaves much to desire, but potentially of interest for some on here, I'm sure.

Pupsiecola · 21/12/2018 12:28

Oooh thanks Bo. Although I already love and use 2 DE products so feel a third would be anti-hero product approach.

Skinfulnappies46 · 21/12/2018 16:46

Just browsing through Drunk Elephant products online Pupsiecola .Which ones do you like and find make a difference for you?

Pupsiecola · 21/12/2018 18:35

Hi skinful. I have been using the Vitamin C (C-Firma) for about a year and really, really liked it. I've almost finished the B-Hydra which I won't repurchase. I prefer the Vichy 89 Serum and it's a lot cheaper. I use the Protini Peptide Cream every morning with a couple of drops of their Marula Oil mixed in and this is incredibly moisturising and leaves my skin feeling really soft. So actually I consistently use 3 of their products, not 2 [embarrassed].

Pupsiecola · 21/12/2018 18:36

Epic fail. How embarrassing lol.

Skinfulnappies46 · 21/12/2018 19:37

Thanks pusiecola. Will look into those 😉 Always useful to hear real reviews.

TantricTwist · 22/12/2018 12:45

Xmas Shock my skin looks dreadful this morning full of medium under the skin pimples all over my face and I know exactly what's caused it. Yesterday I ate nothing but crap just icecream, crisps, chocolate and fizzy pop, something I never ever do in those amounts, ever. I thought I'd be ok but my skin has literally erupted and is not happy at all Xmas Sad. That'll teach me. I hope they disappear by Christmas Day.

JDSTER · 22/12/2018 13:54

skinful I’m also using DE C Firma. Just finished a bottle and onto my second bottle. I’m enjoying using it. It’s quite hydrating too but doesn’t make me any more oily than usual. It did darken in colour towards the end of the last bottle. I keep mine in the fridge. What about you pupsie, where do you store it?

It would be good to do an end of year round up of our favourite products of the year etc. Didn’t we do something similar last year Bo?

Pupsiecola · 22/12/2018 14:47

JDSTER I keep mine in my bedroom. I have kept previous different brand Vit C in the fridge though, but then I struggled to use them daily. I'd say a bottle lasts me 4 months and it does get darker towards the end, with a little crusing around the nozzle. How long does yours last?

mintmagnummm · 22/12/2018 15:05

Sallie how are you getting on with the simple cleansing oil? I'm running low on my Clinique ttdo balm and can't decide whether to repurchase or try the simple....
