Found you 😁 been wearing Chanel Chance the last few days. It was a swap with DD1, she now has my Dior Addict. I realised I’d used at twice in a decade so I clearly won’t miss it.

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning. The storm is still going here so today has been a lot of lounging around, not doing much at all.

Barracker · 13/10/2018 20:09

I'm wearing a sample of MMM By the Fireplace and although I think it's amazing that it smells like a fire and sweet chestnuts, I don't know if I'm enjoying it as much as I admire it. Have a slight headache starting. I was poised ready to buy the PP dupe and now I may not.

Can anyone tell me how they like silk, lace and chocolate? It's half price so I'm thinking about it.
How does it compare to other chocolaties, like Montale chocolate greedy and chocolate etc?

Barracker · 13/10/2018 20:11

Bloomin autocucumber.
That read 'choco musk' before I hit post

Dlpdep · 13/10/2018 20:47

Who knows about how to date Cabochard? I procured a bottle of it today that is certainly late 90’s if not older. It’s EDT, and the box is black with white writing rather than the scribbles which suggests that it is ‘old’ as opposed to ‘vintage’ I guess. I love love love it!!

MrsLucas · 13/10/2018 21:00

Hi Dipdep. If you put a photo up I'll have a go...In terms of clues, has it got a bar code? The 'e' estimated symbol on the bottle? And what's the volume described as?

Cabochard was still going strong in the late 80s, and the scribble packaging had been dropped by then.

There is an e just after the 85% vol - you can’t see it on the pic I don’t think. Thanks so much Mrs Lucas.

MrsLucas · 13/10/2018 23:02

Dipdep - congratulations. Think that's post-1976 but pre-1989. Should be fabulous Grin. My first Cabochard was in this bottle and from that era, and I love, love, loved mine too. (Was reunited with some vintage, years later, thanks to a very kind Perfumista here).

Thank you so much, I’m delighted with it!

Calmanddance · 14/10/2018 07:49

Barracker, Silk, Lace & Chocolate is like smelling a very expensive box of chocolate strawberry creams. The chocolate is rich and dark. It is sweet but not cloying because the whole thing is underlain with citrus notes. Long-lasting. I have never tried Chocolate Greedy, but I have Choco Musk and I find that quite sickly, much more of a cheap milky chocolate effect.

UnnecessaryFennel · 14/10/2018 10:53

SOTD is Papillon Dryad, for a long wet Sunday walk in the woods. A rich, dry, herbal chypre; powerful stuff and a future classic, imo.

UnnecessaryFennel · 14/10/2018 11:04

Barracker, I must admit I'm not a fan of SLC - it makes me think of slightly stale orange and strawberry creams, but to me it's the cheap Quality Street sort rather than some lovely artisan chocolates. It is a step too far down the gourmand road for my tastes.

MrsLucas · 14/10/2018 11:16

Yes, I have a similar reaction to Fennel on this one.

Possible you might also like vintage Azuree Dipdep - it's like a turbo-charged Cabochard?

I find Choco musk a bit tricky too. It's like the chocolate milk left behind after a bowl of Coco pops plus... something.

The Montale smells to me dry and slightly stale, like the softened crumbs of old Oreo biscuits in a jar.

I haven't found a brilliant chocolate yet.

MrsLucas · 14/10/2018 12:50

Trying a couple of different vintage Cabochard's today. Both pre-80s but very different. The one closest to Dipdep's bottle is an EdT with a lovely soapy/smokey leather quality, a soft mossy underbelly, and is a relatively clean smelling. I have only a dribble of the other, and the top notes are shot, but it is quite different. Hugely animalic, (castoreum and musk) with more pronounced floral notes, much less smoke and moss, and a much dirtier vibe. Not sure, but think this might be 70s EdP?

It's wet, and not in a long wet walk in the woods kinda way, but in the taking two kids on the bus in London with an umbrella kind of way. So SOTD is PP by the fireside because it can make me pretend I'm doing something much lovelier.
